Good leather notes, well matured and balanced - very good

Very floral, lavender heaven (not the perfumy way), the palate shows oily and full body, quite classic.

Underdog from the LMDW set was a huge surprise! What a whisky?! An extraordinary balance, an extraordinary harmony. While the influence of Direct Fire is felt, the earthy peat, funk, and tasteful Distillate character never leave the stage empty for a single second. Those who stocked up at the price back then must be smiling… Price-performance ratio: N/A (Medium-Low, collector's bottling) Would I buy it again?: If I could find it in an old RRP, I definitely would!

Plenty of honey, a slightly chemical, ethereal scent, varnish, acetone. Crackers and almond cookies. It almost smells like a reduction with honey and tawny Port wine. Grape molasses and milk chocolate. A very slight wasabi or mustard scent underneath. Liqueur cherry. An earthy and sweet peat, more like Highland peat than Islay peat. Pine jam, resin. Amaretto. A heavy and full nose. A tar-like smell from roadworks in the background. Toast, even waffles. Dried red plums and perhaps a hint of fig. Hazelnut paste. Like Paris-Brest, very “gourmand”. Fresh mint leaves and eucalyptus underneath, creating an illusion of almost opening the nose with solvent-like notes. A truly delightful and impressive nose; incredibly full and complex! |

On the palate, the peat doesn't immediately confront the refined drinker; it moves like a snake, slithering through the other notes, neither falling into the background nor satirizing the palate. It's like playdough, that tarry scent. Plenty of plums; red, green, and dried red plums. Plenty of dried figs. A very elegant earthy peat, with a slightly dirty undertone. Pleasant notes of ripe papaya and mango underneath. Over time, the peat takes on a more charcoal, ash-like character. Cherry and strawberry jams. Hazelnut paste again. Ripe, overly sweetened apricots. Gasoline and a slightly solvent-like side, indicating old distillation. Almond cookie and a pleasant malty base note. Very oily. Dense body. Exceptionally delightful. |

A medium-long, high-intensity finish. A hint of camphor in the background, plenty of almond cookies. A hint of white pepper and cinnamon candy. The fruit notes give way, though not entirely, to tobacco and leather. Red apple peels. A delightful, warming finish with plenty of charcoal and ash. No flaws whatsoever. It's like there's a bit of the funk from Jamaican rum. The base notes are like a reduction of cherry jam and dried red plums. The dirty side accompanies it until the end. It wouldn't be wrong to say this part is impressive! |

Appearance: Deep, deep orange-amber. Very leggy and beautiful. Nose: Spicy, caramel, toffee, oak. Touch of campfire smoke. Vanilla and cherry. Very rich and lovely malt biscuits and sugar. Touch of peach and salt. You can sense the strength as well as the age. Palate: Woody oak, caramel, vanilla, more smoke than the nose, alcohol at strength, cherries, sea salt, honey, dried apricots. Wow. Finish: Malt sugar, oak tannins, vanilla. With Water: A bit more smoke, softer and sweeter. Just a little is enough. Overall: A Magnificent Yoichi. Seems almost too precious to drink, so I kept nosing it for about 30 minutes. Great age, lovely balance. Love that it is bottles at 52% to give its full richness and complexity.
A forge by the sea, and beside it a Buddhist temple where an incense burns that you will find nowhere but Japan. That is Yoichi in full: coal fire, salt and smoke, and through them the Japanese incense. The closest thing to it is a Talisker 30 from the early 2000s at cask strength, crossed with a Balvenie Tun 1401 by some mad blender. Taketsuru brought Scottish craft to the cold shore of Hokkaido and heated his stills over a direct coal fire. This Origami is a special 2012 release for La Maison du Whisky: 20 years old, cask strength at 52%, from bourbon, new oak and sherry casks. The nose is dense and smoky-salty: incense, leather, dark fruit, sherry. The palate is rich and oily, the 52% giving just enough brilliance for so complex a Japanese: malt, a salty attack, spice, smoke, roasted nut, dark chocolate, liquorice, temple incense. The finish is long, warm and spicy, tingling with Japanese oak, Mizunara.

Very good balance between barrel aging, peated barley and malted barley. The raw barrel bottling and the direct charcoal distillation give this whisky a great olfactory and gustatory density.

The sherry cask is immediately present, notes of prunes mixed with wood essences. A sea side accompanied by a light vanilla and earthy caramel. |

A saline attack followed by spices from malted barley, a light smoke comes next before returning to the salty notes that accompany us until the end. |

Long and without superfluous, the saline notes are accompanied by a little ash, there remains a slightly bitter sensation which makes one think of a memory of dark chocolate with salted butter caramel. |
This one is by far the best Japanese whisky I've tasted (Yamazaki owner cask, Hibiki 30 yrs, Hakushu 25 years). From the first swirl, this dram demands your attention - cedar, leather, incense, and deep forest fruits unfold into a layered smoky bouquet. The palate delivers roasted nuts, dried fruit cake, dark chocolate, licorice, and peat, anchored by flawless oak integration. The finish lingers majestically - smoky, chocolaty, and with subtle salt. A peerless expression of Yoichi's powerful, Japanese artistry. A are, collectible gem that whisky lovers must experience

Endlessly long, smoky, and chocolaty, underscored by dry oak that lingers. A classic Japanese dram that stays with you. |
