Мощный, дымно-торфяной Port Charlotte бочковой крепости с необычной довыдержкой в винной бочке Haut-Brion: землистость, копчёное мясо, кожа, красные фрукты и сладость. Опытные ставят стабильно 88–91; расхождения лишь в том, насколько удачно винная бочка срослась со спиртом.

В аромате доминируют землистый, «грязный» торф и обильный дым, к которым добавляются кожа, табак, пепельница, гудрон, жжёное мясо на гриле, тёмный шоколад, соль и отчётливая винная (белое вино, красные фрукты) составляющая; некоторые находят сырно-кислые и резиновые оттенки, а также резкие «зелёные» ноты. Вкус полнотелый и маслянисто-кремовый, при крепости около 59% бьёт мощно: сладость красных фруктов и лакрицы, пряность и перечность, копчёное мясо, зола и раскалённые угли, при этом жгучесть не ранит. Послевкусие долгое, солоновато-пряное, с возвращением торфа, дыма и пепла, а на самом излёте нередко проступает неожиданная фруктовость; вода усиливает торф и делает вкус ярче, но её избыток быстро уплощает напиток.
Хвалят необычное, но работающее сочетание торфа с винной бочкой, баланс дыма, фруктов и специй и согласованность аромата и вкуса — «зимний» образец с характерным узнаваемым профилем Port Charlotte, иногда с уклоном в сторону Talisker или Octomore. Главная критика идёт от одного из менее опытных ревьюеров: довыдержка в винной бочке не срослась со спиртом, дополнительные ароматы быстро улетучиваются, а горечь тяжёлого торфа к концу начинает доминировать, оставляя лишь средней длины сухое пепельное послевкусие. Оценки при этом заметно согласованы: и опытные (88–91), и остальные держатся в узком коридоре 87–91 при рейтинге 89, так что разброс мнений касается не качества, а лишь степени удачности винной довыдержки.

With Water:- The nose changes little, perhaps its a little fresher? The peat is much stronger, it has been let loose, its not an aggressive peat but there is definately plenty of power and the palate is full fat and creamy, ah now the fruit arrives and its more on apple this time. Finish is still long, peaty and sweet. Very good whisky.
Tasted at Old and Rare 2020. No tasting notes, very drinkable.

[April, 2020] A quick review of a large sample... ...which sounded interesting but actually is not. The wine cask maturation did not really integrate with the spirit and the additional flavours vanish quickly both in the nose and on the palate. This is what sometimes happens with double maturations including a wine cask - the two rather fight each other instead of creating a balanced profile. Nonetheless, this is a fine dram to sip...
| Нос | 87 | The colour is deep gold and the nose offers a somewhat strange combo of heavy peaty and sour-cheesy winey aromas first but the cheesy off-notes vanish quickly upon breathing. The peaty notes grow stronger as do the wooden aromas while the wine retreats a little. To be honest, this is not my favourite peaty profile - but it is not bad at all, no doubt. |

As with the nose the wine impressions retreat over time and the classic Port Charlotte profile remains on the palate which is not bad but it is not impressive either. Some water turns both the nose and taste punchier while more water flattens both quickly. I clearly prefer the neat dram. |

Powerful PC with exciting notes, which are already noted in the nose, which made me almost with the many green tones a little worried.

| Нос | 90 | My God this is earthy, almost buried. Freshly plained wood, some sort of old English cheese, cured meat, moss on a rock, this is magic in a glass. There is a white wine in there somewhere and what a horse smells like. This is all bizarre but it works well together. I must be in the Twilight Zone. |
| Вкус | 92 | I was hoping the taste would mirror the nose and it has but with extras like fruit liquorice. It's a bit of a monster at 59.4% but I can handle it quite easily. A lot more of that cured meat and barbecued sauce. I was expecting this to be dry but it's not, it just keeps that nice sweetness at a constant level. |

Really delicious Port Charlotte, especially for fans of sweet and smoky malts. I would never have guessed the wine barrel so blind, but even so, this Port Charlotte has a lot to offer. He's definitely in the mood for more.

I reminds me dirty refill sherry profile, quality sipper
Another very good Port Charlotte. Good choice to recask in a Haut-Brion cask. The red wine cask worked nicely here bringing very nice flavors.

Port Charlotte is definitely for me one of the "discoveries" of the last few months. Bought some samples which were all very good to excellent. And so is this one.

Not easy to comment your own bottling but i´ll try my best. This whisky were lying in a very very tired refill bourbon hogshead and when i visited Jim at the distillery in september 2007 he proposed that i as the only person ever got the chance to recask into a new cask free of choise. I started nosing casks, out whith the bung and in with my nose and after two hours i had come down to two casks that was smelling wonderful, a fresh sherry hogshead and this fresh Haut-Brion, yes and i chosed the latter. It become a slightly winey and spicy ( peppery ) almost little Port Charlotte goes Taliskerish Edit: Well, not the best english from me but i promise to send a 2 cl sample to all who want in europe for 3€/£, just for the sake of trying this one. ( it is the porto cost )
Reminds me of Octomore oddly enough. If you're looking for a hit you in the face whisky, look no further. The taste is better without water personally, especially the development into the middle? Designed for a cold evening, in front of the fire.

The nose is impressive smoke and charcoal, with a hint of clove. Dilution brings out a hint of green grapefruit. The mouth is powerful, exactly on the markers of the nose, with a little sugar and liquorice attack. The texture is thick and sticky. Blindly I would have left more on a Laphroaig than on a Port Charlotte, especially because of the absence of the farmer side. The never-ending finale continues to pound warming peat waves. A real dram for the winter! I'm a fan of this kind of extreme profile.
