В аромате доминируют характерные для Glenlivet груша и зелёное яблоко, к ним добавляются персик, абрикос, медовая дыня, ваниль, крем и сладкий миндаль, а также цветочные (розовая вода, лаванда) и неожиданно плотные дубовые тона — сандал, кокос, корица. Многие отмечают лёгкую спиртовую резкость на старте, которая уходит после проветривания и капли воды. Вкус густой и маслянистый, при 48% на удивление мягкий и без спиртового укола: сладкий солод, мёд, груша, персик, дыня, сливки, орехи, перец и корица. Послевкусие среднее, фруктово-сладкое, с карамелизованным дубом и лёгкой пряностью, но у части авторов быстро обрывается или уходит в горьковатую древесину. Опытные ревьюеры очень согласованы: оценки держатся в диапазоне 83–89, профиль описывают почти одинаково, а более высокая крепость и отсутствие холодной фильтрации считаются главным достоинством наряду с ценой. Критика внутри этой группы мягкая и однотипная — избыточная дубовость в аромате и послевкусии, лёгкая мыльность от зелёной цветочности, горчинка и посторонние ноты кориандра, местами грубоватый или суховатый вкус. Резко выбивается лишь один рядовой отзыв (оценка 55): автор считает грушевую фруктовость признаком незрелого солода, а вкус — пересушенным и слишком древесным, предпочитая старые розливы 40–43%. В остальном рядовые оценки совпадают с мнением опытных, подтверждая репутацию розлива как заметно превосходящего стандартную двенадцатилетнюю версию.

Today there is a new bottling of a Glenlivet for tasting. The whisky was bottled at 48% vol. When it was twelve years old. The whisky in the glass shows itself in old gold and with a medium viscosity. All in all, a very pleasant new bottling at a more than fair price in winter 2020/21.
Нос 87 Very fruity when you first smell it, but also with a slightly pungent alcohol. The next sniff is much more pleasant and sandalwood, berries, sea buckthorn, apricots, marzipan and lilacs can be heard. White gummy bears, mandarins, apricots, there is a lot of aroma coming out of the glass. I would like to say: The one that convinces!
Вкус 86 The fruity character of the whisky continues on the palate. Full-bodied fruity notes, some sherry, orange, dark chocolate and that with a gentle oiliness. Cloves and cinnamon, some pepper, vanilla, also some oak and mint. I really like it with a little water.
Финиш 85 With a medium finish, the Glenlivet says goodbye, not without presenting some fruit, mint and spice again. It looks fresh and youthful and it is worth experimenting with adding water.

This is just a very nice whisky, very good value for money. No alcoholic punch, yet far from thin or weak. Thick, oily, with a lot of friendly fresh fruits, where peach and apricot dominate. Very pleasant dram for sure.
Нос 87 Very fruity and clean initially, a lot of peach, apricot, some pears. Floral notes, no alcoholpunch at all. Very friendly and inviting.
Вкус 86 Smooth, sweet and fruity. Peachy again, apricot. Thick, oily structure, some honey sweetness.
Финиш 86 Still very fruity, peach, apricot. Some sparkling mouthfeel now, pretty long, pretty warming in the belly.

Heard a lot of good things. Now he's going to try it himself... He's very reserved! Opens very slowly. It probably says, I was in the barrel for 12 years, I don't have to reveal everything right away... Beautiful, sweet aromas, very difficult for me to define. Very slightly fruity, delicate wood, minimal vanilla, grapes, dried fruit. It tastes special. Not your everyday whisky. A slight sweetness over the wood some liquorice, brandy, dark chocolate. I am very positively surprised! A delicate whisky, by no means overwhelming, with a very good price!

Alongside the standard 12yo, perhaps not surprisingly, these two are clearly siblings. Here, we’ve a little more funk – from the additional abv initially – but both expressions are interchangeable thereafter. Good whisky is all. A good reminder of how of reasonable the standard 12yo is also.

48%, non-chillfiltered and a solid age statement for (initially) well under 40 € - did this bottling accidentally drop out of a time machine? Ah, and oh yes: it's delicious.
Нос 87 The Glenlivet pears are front and center, along with ripe honeydew melon and peach as well as some unexpectedly heavy and fragrant oak tones (sandalwood, coconut, cinnamon)... Then also a floral side: rosewater and lemongrass, perhaps? This is probably all-bourbon, but some notes of charcoal and oak spice lead me to suspect a some re-charred oak. At any rate, an impressive nose that seems older and more settled than the stated age suggests. Maybe they did actually throw some older stuff in the mix here to achieve this result, who knows...
Вкус 87 What strikes me first is the texture: it's very oily and thick, with a huge "natural" barley flavor that reminds me of some Irish pot still whiskies. So as far as mouthfeel is concerned, this NCF experiment was a success. Banana puree, oatmeal, pear juice, crêpes sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar... The melon + peach combo from the nose makes an appearance as well. Not overly complex, but extremely on point, with very pronounced and clearly distinguishable flavor components. It's also insanely mild and (yes:) smooth for 48%: this goes down like sweet syrup, you don't feel the alcohol at all.
Финиш 86 Lots of caramelized oak, some walnut, and plenty of soft, sweet fruit notes.

May 2023 Still good but down one point. Maybe a bit too woody for me now. December 2025 A bit too woody on the nose and finish, but the palate is rather fruity and nice. However the finish now has some off-notes of coriander.
Нос 85 Quite juicy with green fruits, honey, sweet malt. Some lemon, a little bit of wood and vanilla, some grass. Floral (sweet).

Good whisky, great, fruity nose, a little too harsh and coarse in the mouth and on the palate. But given other "crimes" like the Founder's Reserve, a really good new Glenlivet.

A tpretty good deal in it's price class. Maybe a little too much (green) florality as the taste borders on being soapy and the finish is quite bitter on wood extract.
Нос 86 Buttery, floral, fruity and sweet with a little touch of grassiness. An almost lowlandish profile. Vanilla, sweet butter, baked apple, pear, dried apricot, pancakes with icing sugar, a slight note of cinnamon and nutmeg.
Вкус 84 Creamy and buttery, more sour notes than the nose has to offer. Vanilla, apple juice, sweet and bitter citrus, dried apricot, floral on notes of lavender. More pancakes with icing sugar, acacia honey, clove, cinnamon, slight coriander and some white pepper.
Финиш 80 Medium length: still creamy and buttery on vanilla and floral honey notes, though swiftly shifting to bitter sappy wood notes like clove, spicy pepper and fresh green leaves and herbs.

A very decent malt, good expression, and given age and price, it is even stunning!
Нос 87 Perfumy, at first a tad spirity nose, with apples´n´pears and some dark beers! Gets very yummy after some breathing, with more tinned fruit, tartness and some wood spices.
Вкус 87 Enticingly oily and crisp at the same time. Less sweet than the nose promised, but delicious! No alcoholic nip at all.
Финиш 86 Although some oaky tones emerge, the finish loses track pretty fast. But again, no off-notes, simply very pleasant.

Too much praise for little craft, if the standards had been that way earlier, I would not have found whisky. The fact that fruity hints of pears are often mentioned was a sign of unripe malt in the past. The 48% come off quite softly, if this malt had 40% it would be irrelevant or comparable to many other things that are currently flooding the market. In the mouth it looks tingling but not spicy, changing into a dry / bitter mode very quickly. Too much wood! The smell is still ok, but the taste disappoints. I prefer an 8-12 year old standard painting from the 70s / 80s. There you can find complex flavors at only 40-43%. If you did something wrong to buy a bottle, certainly not. The price is moderate for today's time. But if you don't want to taste it after 2-3x, a bottle for 40 euros is too much.

A very solid bottling with nice drinking strength and great value for money - a very nice experiment by Glenlivet. There is more to discover here than you might think at first. I recommend giving him time to breathe and warming the glass vigorously with his hands at times while enjoying it. Something is really happening there. It is miles ahead of the 12-year-old standard bottling.

Great 12 year old malt, especially on the nose. The higher alcohol content is extremely beneficial. Very complex for the age. I would blindly consider him older. Class PLV.

Glenlivet aims to commemorate the history of whisky making and launches 'The Original Stories'. The first edition is called Illicit Still and is a throwback to the early days when whisky came from illegal stills. Does this whisky have anything to do with the products that were then distilled somewhere hidden in the Highlands? Never ... But at least it has 48% vol and is 12 years old. It's not chill-filtered, and there's nothing on the label about coloring.

More powerful than its predecessor. A very good entry-level whisky. I think PLV is OK.
Нос 87 Fruity warmth. Fruit notes, pear and apple. But also a floral note with a sweet touch. Lemon and vanilla.

An entertaining Glenlivet. Reminds me a bit of the 15 French Oak Reserve; with the same oak-heavy spiciness. This 'Illicit still' has a bit more power though.
Нос 84 Apple, apricot, vanilla fudge and light but warm spices. It's a bit floral too, with a whiff of fresh laundry. A very recognisable Glenlivet profile!
Вкус 85 The 48% give it a good body with an almost creamy mouthfeel. The spices are more pronounced now: ginger, turmeric, white pepper and cinnamon. Fruits are there too: apple, peach and some pineapple.
Финиш 85 Continues on the spices, with baked apples, pear and bitter oranges developing. A bit of vanilla? Becomes a bit dry in the end.

Wow, I didn't expect that. The first "standard" Glenlivet that really impressed me. What a few% more can make, madness. Gladly more of it, Glenlivet - especially at the price! Absolute fruit bomb with the best from the ex Bourbon barrel - lots of ripe, yellow fruits, vanilla, mild honey and a very delicate bitter note

Balanced malt, nice nose, strong mouthfeel. Here the (for a standard) quite high alcohol content has a positive effect. A clear recommendation at a price of around 40 €. Notes from a blind tasting.
Нос 85 Fresh, menthol in the beginning; Pear, exotic fruity - mango, papaya? That comes more with time.
Вкус 86 Creamy and oily, a little honey, light citrus notes, pear, over time oak spice becomes noticeable.
Финиш 85 Quite a long time, a little pepper, fruit and spice finish together.

This is a very well made Glenlivet. With a very good price quality balance. Very good it is on 48%, instead of their regular 40%. This beats the standard 12yo by far.
Нос 88 This is a classic. Very much into the pears. The Haribo pear taste is very recognizable here. Little vanilla and a hint of toffee in the background. Later some raisins as well.
Вкус 87 Full and creamy mouthfeel. This is very well made. Loads of pear and fruitiness. There isn't much development in the taste, but plenty of taste in general.
Финиш 87 Medium length. Again the pears and the classic bourbon notes. Fades away with a touch of wood and some brown sugar.

Fine malt that is not very complex or demanding but, in a simple way, has a lot to offer. Mature, harmonious, round. Great thing.
Нос 87 At first a little cautious, but after a short time already nice and fruity with apples, bananas, pears. Every now and then the malt looks a bit perfumed. An old school speysider, heavy on the malt but still carrying some of the signature Glenlivet house style. The bump up in %ABV is also very welcome.

Maybe I was a notch too enthusiastic with my initial 88p. However upon repeated 'inspection' I must conclude that this malt has never let me down. There isn't much more that can be expected from an upgraded 12yo, unpeated, with no particular fancy cask finish, no single barrel, in my opinion. I prefer this one over its successor 'Licensed Dram' which iststill good, but has a notch too much wood for me and reminds me of the standard 12 @ higher strength. This one is honest and good, I just wish they'd bottle all their whisky ncf @48% abv. :-)

Finally a Glenlivet presented at a nice 48% abv. Hats off. Let's see what this dram is all about. N: Dried fruits and orchard fruits. What a nice combination. Nutty, extremely nutty. Citrus zest and honey. Fragrant. Light and heavy at the same time. Some oak. This is nice. (87) P: Oily, heavy. Sweet dry and spicy. Dried fruits and red apples. Ripe pear with vanilla sauce and various spices. Great depth and nice flavors. (88) F: Medium finish. Dry and spicy. (84) 87 / 88 / 84 = 86.333 --> 86 pts / 100

An exciting whisky with a higher ABV than the standard and very inexpensive. Characterized by pineapple, coconut and tropical fruits and green apples. Lots of oak, with sharp points and a pronounced spice. Probably with a good share of 1f Bourbon Casks.

Crunchy modern ex-bourbon whisky with age statement and dilution reserve for good money. A good portion of wood aromas, a little tropical fruit, good vanilla - delicious.

Tested in a direct comparison with the 12yo Double Oak, which clearly turned out to be the throttled version of the Illicit Still tried here. Everything I criticized about the 12yo Double Oak has been implemented. Great PLV! Great Glenlivet! Keep it up!

Вкус 86 Apple, pear, peach, apricot, almonds, honey, a hint of vanilla, icing sugar, bay leaf and white pepper. Nice mouthfeel! Again very sweet and fruity. Compliments for bringing this one to 48% ABV!
Финиш 85 Medium length with the flavors from above, although a drying bitter is also involved. Just a little less pleasant than in the mouth. Without a doubt a nice whisky for a nice price! Good dram also to introduce people to whisky and not immediately serve the ordinary flat 12 year old. I just finished a bottle and enjoyed it, but I'm not going to get another one right away.

This is just a great whisky. I didn't think I was a fan of Glenlivet, until buying this bottle. Kudos for giving us an alternate take on your behemoth bottlings!
Нос 88 This is a PEAR BOMB. Juicy pears and jelly belly pears. The pears leap out of the glass!!! Also in the fruit basket, apples, bananas, and oranges. Midway through the bottle, nutmeg, honey, toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, and brown sugar start to join in. It's all of the good things.
Вкус 86 So soft. Full body. Very sweet. Premade fruit cups. Honey, cream, and milk chocolate.
Финиш 84 Honey and barley/cereal, sugary sweet. A hint of licorice and mint. The apples, oranges, and pears return. No oak bitterness, but numbing and warming. This is excellent, a total surprise.

Initial impressions: Dangerously delicious sweet honey apples and pears , classic sherry profile and great consistency in the mouth...floral and very mild besides the 48% and a quite long lingering finish slightly spicy and oaky. Enough Sherry without beeing sherry flooded. I like it a lot especially the plv it offers.. doesn't take water too well imo especially the nose looses - think this is made to drink at 48. Definitely better then the core 12 imagine this Distillery producing more whiskies like this for whiskies for enthusiasts instead of Mass Market Whiskies with filtration and colour..the ib prices just went up last year's too much and they can never give you constantly good quality...

Cherry and marzipan on the nose, tropical fruits and vanilla behind. In the mouth voluminous and full without being bubbly, the alcohol content is very well chosen. In the finish a flood of tropical fruits, which are replaced by aromatic oak. Length: 6/10 Great 12 year old "standard" that I would prefer to the 18 at any time. Grade: 2+

nose Ripe apples, overripe bananas, pears and some orange, plus a clear vanilla, some colorful pepper, biscuit, hazelnut nougat, sunflower and straw. The nose is reflected in the taste with a nice creamy mouthfeel. In the finish then clearly oak and becoming a bit drier. Unspectacular but very solid. In any case, a significant increase to the classic 12er.

Note: Bottle has been open for about 2 months and is ~70% full Feeling: I never really loved Glenlivet, it was just not my cup of tea.. But I have to say I enjoy this bottle! It’s very pleasant, fruity, with a smooth texture, bits of spiciness, but I enjoy it.. I’m happy I got 2 bottles, one will be kept for later and I’m sure I will be glad to come back to it:)

¥300/15 ml @ Isetan. Appearance: Deep amber orange. Nose: Spicy, fruity, fresh, ginger, vanilla, honey, apple, oak, peaches. Palate: Sweet vanilla and caramel, raisins, ginger, cookies. Finish: Honey, vanilla, long and spicy. Overall: Rich and lovely. Very spicy and oaky, and much nicer with 48% abv. Wish I could find a bottle.

Nose: Although I haven't drank Glenlivet for a long time, I can still recognize it in a second. Honey, apple, caramel pudding, and sour freshly squeezed orange juice are very expressive. But when I thought that was all there was to it, I took a sip, and the aroma began to shift to more spices, cardamom, coriander seeds, dried leaves, popcorn, and some waxy texture. Drink: Glenlivet, which has always been light-weight, has exceeded expectations in terms of taste, full and smooth, and more oily. The taste buds are also very expressive, caramel, honey, grapefruit, wheat, salty and fresh, high and long. Overall: I still vaguely remember the story about the black holy water, and maybe only Gelnlivet would want to mention this history. Of course, I haven't tasted the taste of Glenlivet of that era, but this bottle of works should not shame the black market holy water in terms of expressiveness, complexity of flavor, taste, and alcohol content. A powerful “illicit” expression for Glenlivet, enhanced by a good abv (48%) and no chill filtering. It’s a fruit bomb at the beginning, with melon and apricot above all, but not so sweet as you could expect (which is definitely a plus). Almond, hazelnuts and a touch of honey are clear on the palate, also revealing some warm wood notes. It’s quite easy drinking and not very complex, but not weak nor foregone at all; fairly good and more than enough for applying to become a rich “everyday dram”.

All said in reviews above are true! Whisky is rich and full-bodied. I found it little dry too. Leathery, nutty and lightly oaky. Great stuff anyway!

Smell: fruity, spicy nose, yellow pomaceous fruit, ripe pear, mango, present but well integrated alcohol, sweetish tip, according to waxy note, dec. Vanilla, overall not very complex .... Taste: spicy, woody, sweet base note, the alcohol more present than on the nose, Williams pear again, nice balance, English orange jam, Color: deep gold tone with a reddish tinge, medium. Water's edge, of course Conclusion: Glenlivet is not only cheap, but also cheap and really good - 48% and not cold-filtered, that would probably also advance some of the other whiskys in the Glenlivet standard range ... Here from the PLV a great whisky that gives hope for more ...

I can only agree with many of the previous reviews praising the higher ABV, lack of chill filtration and the value for money. And of course, the quality, although the finish could be better. Hopefully not a one off.

Вкус 86 Spicier than the nose suggests. Spiced apple pie, quite oak-forward. Creamy and custard-like, with sweet fruits, pear drops etc. Some cooking spices (cardamon, pepper, nutmeg),
Финиш 83 Again with the sweet fruit note, although in the finish there is a trace of unpleasant bitterness which is incongruent with the nose and somewhat disappointing in comparison.

First of all: difficult number that is fun, but also a little disappointing at the same time. Conclusion: Yes, Glenlivet, you can still do it and keep it up, reminiscent of the old 12 series. A bit of sherry influence would have rounded off the picture. Alcohol could be better integrated, haven't played with water here yet. Wonderful nose and smells older, taste towards 8-10 years. Good PLV (37.50 euros as of March 13, 21) Do you need a second bottle? Rather not. Do you regret buying the first one? No not at all. Do you have to buy it, otherwise you would have missed something? Definitely no. Supplement: Water makes it a little better, unfortunately, spicy alcohol remains and creaminess is increasingly lost.
