The nose is fresh, like a sea breeze, there are stewed fruit notes mixed with pie crust/pastry, some gala melon but it is faint. The palate is creamy in texture, quite refined to be honest, not a massive amount of flavour at first. As you go on things change with a nice dollop of spice coming in Caramel, a little green apple, hint of mango. Balance is decent for sure. The finish is what I would call composed, with the cream lasting until the end with the spice and a hint of peat on tail. I really like this, the taste is really nice but the palate needs a little more excitement to get it to 90 points. Higher abv is not always needed but it is here in my view.

compared to the numerous excellent Hoggy SV decanters near 30y, the OA lacks both power and brilliance. Toffee, cream liqueur, chocolate, a hint of apricot jam - unfortunately also clear bitter substances above the tasty limit - nobler on the nose but thin, on the palate almost too much ABV because it was in the barrel too long in relation to balance and bitter substances

22-21,5-21,5-22 nose quite good fruit and honey, pepper and citrus bitterness are added to taste though taste and finish sag a little

If you like the Glenturret distillery character and a lot of oak at the same time and don't have a problem with low alcohol content, then this could be something. For me it's pleasant on the nose and easy to drink, but nothing else.

The long maturation period is noticeable in this bottling. There are very nice, strong oak aromas here. It's a shame, however, that the drinking strength is so low and also that the finish is really a bit short and weak. The price is probably appropriate given the age (these days), almost "cheap". Even at the beginning of 2022, it can sometimes still be had for just under €300. Now that I have tried this bottling several times and become familiar with it, I particularly enjoy enjoying it in large gulps. And I keep each sip in my mouth for ages. This works wonderfully with this drinking strength. It should be at least one second per year of maturation. It is very delicious and this is where this bottling can really show off its strengths.

Some flaws at nosing (shy, needs warmths and oxigen). This malt has notes only very good and old matured whisky has. great length and depths (plus oak) dispite it's "low-ish" ABV. This would be an absolute stunner with 48% ABV+. you need to like cheesy-like aromas for this one.

Great look into Glenturret's past. Surprisingly fresh on the nose for a 30yo. With its waxy and cheesy aromas, it shows the "funk" of the 80s in whisky making.

I came to this rehearsal like a virgin to a child. A big thank you goes out to our patron of Whisky Evening Uwe (al.Little Dram). He had instructed André to give 10cl to Moses after the video. Great idea. Because after my notes I immediately and without hesitation stashed a backup from the bargain Dutchman.

Surprisingly weak finish for 30 years of maturation. I do like it, but I did expect a lot more considering the price and its age.

Ehh, the nose promised much more than the body gave. Watery and linear just like for the 30th anniversary official release

Very well made whisky. Deep rich wood note without being bitter. Hazelnut chocolate, wax, caramel/toffee bonbons, lemon note, hints of leather and old books clearly showing the age. No alcohol burn, no off notes. Very intense/concentrated flavors (especially the caramel and toffee ones) despite the lower ABV. This would be at 91-92 points, if they would have bottled it at 46-48% ABV. Anyway, a TOP shelf whisky...

The oldest Glenturret so far as an original bottling, next to the brand new Maiden release from the end of 2020. However, this costs 5 to 6 times as much. !!! Therefore this vintage 30 year old from 1987 - 2018 is a real real bargain, although it is actually not really cheap. But even Glenturret of the same age from the independent bottlers either cost the same or are even more expensive. Jim Murray awards 94 points here. He calls this malt "on the edge". From my point of view that is true. Age-related at the upper limit. But of wonderful balance, balance, great finesse and class. All essential features and elements are super integrated, even if perhaps just a little. Yes, there is a lot of old oak and its oak flavor in the finish. But neither over-dominant nor too intense. Also not bitter, not unpleasant, not too sour. Long and intense, but at the same time filigree, almost delicate, and very complex. Otherwise there is a fantastic mix of rather light fruits and stone fruits such as apricot, peach, apple, gooseberries, slightly bitter white grapes. Plus clearly everything from the citrus fruits, especially lemon and light grapefruit including peel, pulp and juice. In addition, there are clearly nutty flavors, walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, marzipan, cinnamon, vanilla, toffee, and also to some extent tropical fruits such as pineapple and coconut. In terms of age, actually at the limit, but the master distiller apparently just married the casks at the right time. Very clear and unambiguous recommendation.

Glenturret 30 year old SMSW 43.3%. 30ml sample from an older dumpy style bottle (not the swish-looking post-Lalique-takeover bottles). Dark golden yellow. Aroma instantly gives that impression of whisky made before production techniques were cleaned up. Feinty cheesy notes. Pineapple and cheese party sticks. Some parmesan/butyric. Given air the cheese dissipates leaving mostly bright fruit notes with some earth. Body is moderately oily. Taste is rounded, salty, quite complex in its delivery of egg custard tart, flower stems and blackberry jam. Hints of things like ginger and honey and jammy fruits. There are sherry casks in the mix for sure. Some sulphur in there but not in a particularly offensive way. It has a surprisingly front-loaded flavour with a clean, short finish. There’s a good amount of body with all those rich jammy flavours and then it sort of dies a death on the swallow. Some lingering char. This is an interesting and flavourful, flawed whisky. It’s feinty on the nose and a little sulphured on the palate, but it has all sorts of complex intense flavours going on, and it's certainly rich. So, it’s a mixed bag – in some ways great and impressive, in other ways not. It's a little sickly; I even find 30ml a little wearing but I could definitely work my way through a bottle in 20ml drams. But, at the £1650 asking price, I won't be doing so! 3.375/81

It’s just a number mr. DeVito. Old whisky is really not very affordable these days. Not that it was ever ‘cheap’, but now it is becoming increasingly difficult to find anything over 20+ years old that can be bought and drunk without feeling guilty you’re depriving your kids of their inheritance or just that nagging feeling you’re possibly pissing (literally) good money up on the wall. As such there will be less and less people tasting older whisky, which is both a shame and also a weird position to be in for a lot of distilleries, to be in the business of making something that is slowly becoming too expensive for your end users and the further up the scale you go with age, the smaller pool of prospective customers becomes. There still the odd bargain out there to be had though. Glenfarclas’s epic 40 year old is still a real bargain for the money even if it has double in price over the last 6 years or so and at the other end of the spectrum Deanston’s 18 year old is almost ridiculously affordable at £60 in todays climate. And then there is older bottles of Glenturret’s 30, which can still be found at auction for not insane money. But these things are becoming increasingly rare. It’s a joy to try them more so when they are a gift. Cheers Ilja. On the nose and it is boisterous! This is all hot oaky pineapples and Wrigley’s Fuicy Fruit gum. Spicy and almost tropical? This really is quite a big nose for such a weedy ABV. If you’d have asked I’d have sworn blind it was something around 46-48%. It’s got muscle. It also smells like a bit of banana toffee has got into the mix. 15 mins in and the nose is noticeably calming down and now more of the wood is appearing under a toffee glaze. There’s more bourbon notes peaking though, a little sourness and some mustard seed and old ground ginger and some custard, a some freshly opening cornflakes. All very tasty, for my nose that is. Time let the tongue Ooooh, almost effervescent? Sparkly, tingly, what a strange sensation. Has this been in a SodaStream? Never experienced this before in a scotch. The tropical notes arrive and the sweetness and toffee and some ginger and leather and then things start to fade. It’s very moreish, like watching Danny DeVito and like Danny DeVito it is undeniably short. Very good. But very short. Maybe 10-20 years ago this would have been a reasonable price for the whisky it is, but today, well, even at todays insane prices it’s a hard thing to justify once you factor in the price (which appears on the surface to be a bargain). There’s bigger and better out there for less fun money. Trying something so old is a rare joy but one should never be swayed by merely a number. Put it this way, for the same money you could have had 4 bottles of the 2020 12 year old Maiden Release from Glenturret and I know which one I’d choose for the money. Nose: Amazingly fresh. Freshly sliced apple, beeswax. White chocolate, kiwi, cranberry. Peanut and Hazelnut. Mouth: Beautiful fruit notes, apricot, raspberry, cranberry. Creamy mouthfeel, combined with the fruit notes almost like a fruit cream yoghurt. Oak provides subtle highlights, but is more reserved overall. Light nutty and tobacco notes. Definitely a whisk that, despite being in the barrel for 30 years, has not been killed by it. Finish: Was there something? Vanished from mouth almost immediately after swallowing. A light bittersweet chocolate note. A hint of apricot 88/100 Conclusion: A beautiful whisky: fine balance and great fruit with a creamy body. The only drawback I see is the very short finish.

The overall expression is very soft and smooth, however, while the fragrance of the finish is certainly characteristic, it relatively lacks the thickness and richness that would be expected from a long cask ageing. Moreover, the strength of 43.4% makes the flavour presentation at some stages seem slightly thin and pale.

Glenturret 30 Year Old from 2018, bottled at 43.3% ABV. Smooth, rich, and complex dram that's perfect for sipping and savoring. While some might find the 43.3% ABV a little on the lower side for a 30-year-old, the flavor profile is undeniably delightful.
