Fruity, red fruits, but also some odd kind of rubbery touch. Pleasant for sure, but not a good value for money.

Full scent, fruity, red fruits, even a bit of rubber touch. Quite some alcohol noticeable. |

Much more now, oily, red fruity, berries, cherries, still a little rubber edge. Thick structure. |

Still smooth, red fruits, rubber, a little short finish. |
I have nothing against sherry, but when it drowns out the taste of the whisky it does make you wonder if they're hiding something. An ok dram, but not very exciting.

It's almost more sherry than whisky (the obviously higher abv tips the scales). Sweet spices, with a hint of rye at the back. |

A little wet in terms of mouthfeel, and also slightly insipid - there is a herbal note with a touch of pepper, but too much of the sherry. |

Oak sweetness |
A strong VO note from the French Oak almost breaks my nose. The sherry is there to provide a sweet base but even drowns as well. A lot of too heavy (VO) cask doctoring to hide its youth. This follows on the palate. The VO note almost cuts out my tongue with a quite overwhelming but rather bitter mouthfeel and a quite short VO finish that can't hide the age and the low strength is not beneficial either. Almost bourbonlike (not wood but unfortunately the drink itself) in the end (not sure that's good). You really have to like VO to like this dram. After this dram I still wonder what Strathearn tastes like. So far I only tasted wood (influence). This is bascially forcing a scot to dress up as a yankee. Not sure a scotsman would really appreciate it, probably at least he'd kick you... I am looking forward to a more balanced and distillate driven approach at higher strength. This is rather whisk-e-y, not whisky. Thank god I only swapped a 5cl sample.

A lot of oak overlays dark fruits, slightly cheesy, chocolate and nuts |

In the first impression there is a nice sweetness, but then the oak comes through and numbs the tongue, chocolate and nuts behind it with a lot of pepperiness |

A super solid young sherry bottling. I don't think anyone would have identified that it was only three years - although probably no one would have said 10+. The spice is a nice counterpoint to the sweetness. You shouldn't expect miracles here, but this is very solid material. By the way, my sample comes from a bottle that has been open for a while. That seems to be an advantage here if you read the base. When freshly opened, the wood note is probably very strong. An absolute sherry bomb. It feels a bit older then the 3yo it actually is. Yet there is nothing left of the original whisky.

Very much a sherry bomb. Loads of dried red fruits and red fruit candy. Initially smells a bit chemical but that fades away quickly. There is also a little leather note in the background. So on the nose there is nothing left of the original character. |

Sweet arrival. Loads of red fruits, reminds me of a typical soft drink called Bolero Forest fruits. A little alcohol nip is in here. There is yet again nothing left of the original whisky. Although the feeling is a bit more mature then a 3yo |

Long length. A burst of the sherry cask again and a little bitter note in the end. |

Part of the line-up of a recent Saturday afternoon tasting with my friends. Quite a surprise; no it was not the winner of the afternoon, but this one was better than expected. I did not guess this dram to be just 3 years old. Quite mature for its age. Nose starts of fine with dried fruit, wood, some vanilla, raisins and sherry notes. In the taste and finish, things go wrong. Sharp, wry and getting more and more unpleasant.

Strathearn Single Malt Batch 1. 46.6%, consumed Dec 2020. So this is the first official release but I have tried a single cask before. Dark colour... Aroma is slightly syrupy yet paradoxically savoury like a sweetened gravy. Honey and faint red wine cask meet battered sausage. Some clove later on. Taste is similar to the aroma in its atypical vibes. I feel like the cask choice here favours punch over class. Red wine vibes bring a tangy spiciness. Spicy French oak at the fore. Huge spicy oak - seems like French oak to me. Muddled, like a time I tried spirit that had been oaked with oak chips. I think this is lacking in finesse. The spirit seems okay but it's hidden away by domineering oak. Clearly someone has decided to compensate for lack of maturation time with the most active casks, but the spirit can't catch up. Whisky can be good at a young age (see Nc'Nean), but you need the spirit to shine first. This just tastes like an oak aged apple flavoured vodka or something. A really disappointing showing for me. 2.45/59
A rather complex piece of wood, found in an antique shop; old but not damp or moldy. Purchased at auction for 61 euros.

Not too convincing. Even with cola, it tastes like cough relief.
Nose- sherry bomb. -orange and chocolate covered cherries, plums, raisins, Caramel, hazelnut, wee note of young spirit, leather, old, wood furniture, furniture polish, wee bit of burnt matchsticks- sulphur, lots of oak, cinnamon, Palate- wood- old oak furniture, furniture polish, rich xmas cake, mince pies, plums, raisins, lots of orange- orange marmalade, orange peels in dark chocolate ginger, cinnamon, clove- nice brown sugar/molasses note, tiny wee bit of sulphur from the sherry cask, Finish- lasts forever, velvet in my mouth, dry, astringent, oaky, clove, cinnamon, ginger, orange peels, 3 year old whisky- wood contact is incredible- real wood depth
I'm no sherry fan, but I thought this was well balanced with good amounts of fruit, spices and darker notes. That being said its a £70 whisky tops, no more. N – copper, toffee, burnt sugar, dried plums/ cherries, marshmallow/ meringue, raisins, sherry – 12 P – raisins, prunes, light char, plums, baking spices, cinnamon, burnt sugar, black coffee, fruit cake crust, treacle – 26 F – treacle, cake crust, sweet espresso, baking spices, ash, light char, prune juice, black currant juice, black berry – 26
After opening the bottle, that somewhat penetrating woodiness becomes apparent, which is initially too dominant. After a few months the miracle: the wood looks increasingly integrated, the whisky shows a balance of wood and sherry notes that can hardly be grasped with the short maturation time. Masters are at work here.
