for a recent Macallan, I kinda like it, compared to its other recent brothers and sisters. The classic cut from 4 years earlier was more to my liking, but just as that one, still quite hot.

Bonus points for a distillery bottling at 51% ABV. A rare opportunity to get some extra complexity and depth. It works out well, even if it still doesn't justify the price...

Dark golden color. Thick whisky.

Cocoa The Classic Cut is a yearly release from Macallan since 2017, on American ex-bourbon casks and 'sherry seasoned' European and American oak. Not unimportant: at cask strength. When appearing in the store (if it gets to the shelf) you pay about 125 to 150 EUR for this, but you should not hesitate. They disappear like snow in the sun and then go to the auction market. The first edition – from 2017 – will cost you tenfold. This one from 2021, very recent, currently costs 'only’ double the original price on the secondary market. Anyway, enough about that, back to the whisky. Delicious nose on warm apple pie, vanilla and oranges. Some marzipan and ginger. Yellow canned fruit. Milk chocolate with coconut filling. Fresh plums. Crispy red apples. Sherry. Typical house style and in this case very pleasant. I was busy with the nose alone for a good fifteen minutes. Nice! Oily on the palate and the strength is... a strength. The alcohol seems to be under control at first, but slowly builds up to make your mouth nice and warm. Vanilla and yellow fruit come first, followed by a nice spiciness (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cocoa). Milk chocolate returns. Gently drying. Delicious. The finish is long, starts sweet and then slowly but surely becomes a bit bitter and dry. And that works fine in this case. Pure oak on the deathbed. The Classic Cut has never disappointed me, which I can't say about all Macallan. And this one has more cocoa to offer than the recent Rich Cacao, imagine that!

This is my rating for this whisky.

Something unspectacular. Well, I couldn't (unfortunately) expect anything else. Sad to see what became of one of my favorite distilleries ...

I was expecting more than what I had on my nose and tongue. For me, this whisky is too bitter. The minimum amount of fruit is also not entirely satisfactory for me. The only plus is the power of sweetness and chocolate flavors

A specific, very complex young whisky that makes you want to dig deep into it. I have ambivalent feelings towards him. On the one hand, the increased fortress undoubtedly decorates it. On the other hand, too much newmake influence is not good for an aged whisky. Of course, it is tasty and quite interesting, but questions remain ... With the addition of water, the aroma is filled with malt tones, caramel sweetness appears on the palate, and the finish becomes less citrus. In general, the reduction is not good for him.

On the nose, the whisky opens with a gentle sweetness. Notes of marzipan and soft vanilla are prominent, with an underlying touch of mint chocolate that adds a fleeting sense of freshness. There’s a creamy, almond-like nuance that evokes pastry dough or nougat, but the aroma remains subtle and lacks the richness or layered character often associated with Macallan’s higher-end expressions. Nose: toffee, orange cake, orange peel, apples, honey, cream with nuts. Taste: Vanilla cream, oak aroma, chocolate with a hint of honey, pepper, orange, cocoa, a bit of tartness Finish of medium length, floral, orange, honey, more spicy.

Macallan Classic Cut 2021 with 51%. All in all well drinkable, but there are better representatives here, such as the representative from 2018. If you look at the quality of the other standard bottlings, you can take this Classic Cut here with a clear conscience for 150 euros.

The aroma is nice but taste is too polarising

Totally meaningless hype, a completely normal (not bad) whisky that also seems very young. Actually, you should deduct a lot of points because of the price.

Warm raspberry juice, mint, and lemon meringue smeared against slightly damp oak. Let this one sit or the oakiness may attack your tongue, and unpleasantly so.

The aroma is cherry, a little perfumey, varnish, milk chocolate, coconut, underneath it is fresh fruit, sweet cream, vanilla, caramel. Fruit and cream candies. Taste – sweet, milk chocolate, dry. Dried fruits, a pinch of spices, ginger, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, cake cream, cocoa. Quite thick in the mouth. The finish goes from medium to long. Cocoa, spices, cinnamon, white pepper, dessert chocolate, caramel and wood.

Terrible, thin and a short finish. One of the worst whiskies, and certainly the worst Macallan I have ever tried.

B: 51%, nc, ucf, balanced. 22 N: raspberry, strawberry, cinnamon, vanilla, wood, baking, herbal. 22 P: vanilla, berries, spice, cinnamon, wood. Sweet and mellow. 24 F: spice, vanilla, berries, wood. Medium. 20. Very delicious and smooth. Well balanced and rich. The length of finish disappoints and also value for money
