[December, 2009] Finally I emptied a bottle that I bought for 42,50 Euro in April, 2009. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored this 85. My notes simply state "I like the 10 year old better"...

Nose:- Nose heated, muddy and wet grass on a field, morning dew. Nature charm. Sea spray, seaweed and mineral note at the back. Remarkable. Palate:- Green apple crispness, sweet vanilla and refine ash smokiness. Velvet and soft on palate with good body. Finish:- Medium-long length, lingering. Shades of spiciness remains. Softer nature, but still a tongue numbing stuff. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

A nice combination of pleasant smoke and creamy sweetness. Since the new 15er can not quite keep up.

The characteristic Lafrouge, in comparison with the ten, is more calm and moderate, the youthfulness of youth is already coming to naught, but some new qualities and shades have not added up like in return (there is something creamy caramel in taste in homeopathic doses and the influence of oak is increasing ), but it's still good.
Nose peat, iodine, peach and a little exotic fruit. Evolved on the caramel. In the mouth, well built even at 43%. Few new flavors. The return of the medicinal. Final on pear and a little minty side. Very nice. Beautiful evolution and more complex than the 10 years. Second test 17/03/2017: First of all, a cloud of peat and smoke. Cold ashes. A little anise. Medicinal. Less fruit than in my memories (peach lemon) In the mouth it has its character. Always the side ash a little meaty. More fruit (a bit of red fruit itself), orange. Pretty oily and honeyed. Final on ash and peat. A little cherry, orange and anise. Sugar. Very nice, even if not ultra complex.
A good, drinkable and quite distinctive Laphroaig. Personally, I was missing something to put it higher in my Islay rating. In the distillery's bottlings, the 18 still leads for me. Many thanks to Alexey S for providing the sample! 22 22 21 22
At the nose smoke - tar?? and seaside smell Taste Initiallly lot of smoke, after salty and sweet Finish so fast A good whisky but not a memorable dram, for a Laphroaig at at medium-high price
I'm becoming more and more a Laphrioaig fan ;-) I like it, especially the smoky note and the sticky sweetness! I find even a little better and spicier than the current 200yo Jubiliämsabfüllung!

http://www.weinkenner.de/2015/alt-gegen-neu-15yo-laphroaig-2006-vs-2015-200th-anniversary-35805/ Color: pale gold Nose: phenols, tar and sulfur. Medicinal vapors with almond liqueur, malty caramel, lime slices and sour grapefruit. Taste: Oily structure, lots of sulfur, smoke and peat. A grassy sweetness of lime, maritime lemon and grapefruit, caught in medical notes of iodine, ether, gauze bandages and disinfectants. Finish: Long - harmonious and dry-peppery. Herbs and medicinal notes of bandages, iodine, peat as well as tar, coal, burnt rubber and smoky-maritime elements stick to the palate. Comment: Always a great dram! 89 points (nose: 88 / taste: 89 / finish: 89)
nice complex Laphroaig. Although i like the older ones (unblended) a lot better, this is much better than the standard 10y old. 86p. sample available on: whiskysample.nl
Warm and pleasant to drink, oak and peat with the typical medical notes, it is absolutely delight to drink, sweet and warm and long finish.

This 15y old version is way more in the TCP medicinal direction than expected. Great stuff. Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10
My score is an average from three tasted bottles (2004, box), (2006, tube) & (2009, tube)
Still available at the distillery shop for 67,50£ (July 2016)

This is one of Robert Hicks' concoctions. He was a lovely man who I always thought talked a little too much in a tasting, but he really knew how to put together a whisky. This stuff is great. Makes a lot of today's stuff pale in comparison.
Nose: Sweet apples red chief / delicacy, vanilla, Moroccan mint, woodwork in passing, fresh sweet muffin, ripe orange, pears, liquorice sweets Taste: Oily, sweet, burnt piece of wood, ash, lemon, raw tree. The finish: A long. Dry, ash, fresh tree, medicinal herbs, smoked barley, a little bit of menthol, licorice sweets. Output: At first I generally decided that I had a linden bottle, because I poured something similar to duchesse into the glass. In the book, on the bottle itself, it is recommended to add a few drops of water, but I decided to give it a little time. And after 30 minutes, he opened up. I still added water for the experiment, but I didn’t hear any new aromas, but the ones that were there, the water nailed, stretching the alcohol to the surface.

Smoked nuts, sea breeze, marine salts, refreshing feeling, ripe and juicy peaches, green apples and yellow apples, high balance and completeness.
The 15 he overall of Laphroaig is a fine for his character. Filigree whisky which one sometimes has to lick the individual notes from the Rppen.
A subtle dram without being delicate. Like what is not only cask strength in life. One of my favorite whiskys, and affordable. For those who do not know, buy urgently before stocks run out!

very nice. super complex nose and finish; just lacks on the palate. SGP:565
Nose: iodine, wood and malt. Taste: perfect, soft and sweet, lots of peat and iodine. Aftertaste: beautiful, full and long with a hint of sweetness and a real tiny, bitter end!
The classic Laphroaig in addition to the old 10/10CS -- what a very good dram to revisit after all these years. Would be great if Suntory could look hard and carefully at the Laphroaig brand once more and consider what made it great.... Unlikely though--given the utter decimation of age statement whiskies in Japan........ Deep medicinal, peaty stuff, sweet liquorice wood, with also a lively almost zesty fruit element, seaweed and wet earth. Very well integrated and remarkably assertive at 43ABV.

Laphroaig 15-year-old, 43 vol from Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion (4th edition) Colour: pale amber. Nose: phenol, tar, sulphur. Body: medium to full, with a soothing oiliness. Palate: a deceptive moment of sweetness and grassiness, then an explosion of sulphur, burning peat, and Islay intensity. Finish: round, dry, long, warming. Score: 89
(the bottle has been open for 3 months and a half and soon empty) nose: very lemony, less complex than at the beginning (the chocolate and caramel notes are gone) palate: light peat giving way to salty, peppery and floral, then citrus (lime, grapefruit, orange) same effect as for the nose, I no longer feel the chocolate and caramel that I could feel at first. The aeration made him win then lose in complexity but it remained well structured and pleasant to drink until the end. He was at the top between 2 months and 2 months and 1/2 after opening.
A truly unusual Laphroaig, completely different from those tried so far, with kindness and sweetness at times unsettling but well integrated.

Just by pouring it into the glass, Laphroaig's fiercely peated and maritime soul invades the surrounding environment. Letting it breathe, the nose is softened, vanilla, dates, ripe pear and mango emerge, with the medicinal soul of the distillate put in the background, very muted. Unusual but pleasant. |

On the palate, the peat becomes more herbaceous and ashy, with the saline declaration that intensifies, bringing the aromas back into the waves of the ocean. Pinch of black pepper and ginger, with the sweetness always present but more tamed. Candied orange, licorice and wood in the background. The game of balance between peat and fruit stays on the edge, but it works. |

Interesting dram, with subtle flavours. High complexity and depth in flavours keep it interesting. Score 83-85 pts. Maybe a bit too expensive.
The peat is more contained than in 10 years, caramel, orange, fennel, rubber. Mouth drier than 10 years and slightly salty, very little sugar. Very good overall balance and very well integrated alcohol, the tannins are very fine. Long finish on peat. Compared to the 10 years we gain in finesse what we lose in passion.
A delicious Laphroaig. Just like you expect a Laphroaig.

Excellent whisky. Homogeneous and greedy. Sloppy but delicate.
Disappointing on the palate, although nose and finish were certainly okay. In terms of balance, it was too heavy on the medicinal side for my taste. Average. With that in mind, I find the 15yo pricey on the aftermarket now that it has been discontinued.
This was a good bottle, finished during a cool evening Ephoron hatch.
The nose starts sweet with cherry, walnut, caramel, the medicinal notes are there, but quite behind. In the mouth comes the sea, very salty at beginning then arrives the liquorice. The peat coat everything with elegance,
