I thought it was about time for a quick dive into the low-cost segment, so I bought this bottle of Copper Dog. Fresh and grassy, the nose offers apple puree, sour grapes and some distant spices. Other than that, there is not much going on. The taste is crisp, watery and apple-driven, expanding towards bitter oranges, cinnamon and mild tannins. Hints of biscuits, walnuts and menthol give it a bit of substance. Swift and uninspiring, the finish fades with toffee, herbs and a touch of espresso. I don't mind drinking this malt, but it's not very interesting either. RATING: 2.7/5.0 stars ≙ 76 pts → SUBPAR [+]

Another bottle shared by Slàinte Mhath. At the price of this "pure malt" it would take a disaster to disappoint, and in no way it is. That said it is neither a revelation of goodness to your taste buds. I would say it's a good introduction to malt for the novice, but a bit bland and boring for a malt dog.

Mellow generic Speyside nose. Maybe a bit more than average vegetal greenery going on. Hint of citrus, green apple and a touch of caramel. |

With it's 40% the arrival is a bit thin, bordering on watery. Picks up with a touch of allspice. More oranges than apples on the palate, sweet. |

Pretty nice one actually, smooth, not too complex but surpringly full for a 40% Abv whisky, especially the finish is remarkable.

Fruity, peach, also some clear honey sweetness. Smooth nose, no alcohol dominating. Some orange as well. |

Very soft and smooth, just a little pepper on the tongue. Honey, some toffifee, licorice. Soft but certainly not thin. Some peach as well. After some time caramel/fudge dominates. |

Still a very slight pepper, honey and licorice. Peach. Actually pretty long for a low Abv whisky. |
A pleasant tipple to share with friends.

Aromatic nose. Oak, slightly fruity, very mild. No worse than everyday whiskey.
Excellent value for money.

Fresh at first. Fresh fruit. Apples. Then a heavily roasted caramel, not that sweet. It is mixed with the fruit that becomes less fresh as a result. Apples in caramel. Lots of spices. Cinnamon and pepper. |

Light sweetness at the beginning. Vanilla and a hint of caramel. Then a lot of spices. Pepper, some cinnamon. Later oak, slightly sweetish. A gently warming finish. Medium-short. |
The Copper Dog is a pub & restaurant and part of the Craigellachie Hotel complex in Speyside. Bottled especially for the hotel, this blended malt comprises of ‘no fewer than eight single malt whiskies’. N: Regular speysider, Glenlivet/Glen grant-like with maybe a dash of Cragganmore, some Highland suspects and some mild sherry action. T: Same again, an easy one focusing most on barley porridge, bourbon sweetness, and sweet lime, a little pepper. F: Short-medium chew. C: Starts to improve over time. A good camping whisky in a similar vein to Monkey Shoulder. Scores a C[-]

A mate had a bottle and he gave me a glass. It's actually quite a pleasant dram. Light and fruity. It reminded me of Cardhu Gold. If this was given to me as a gift I would be quite happy.

- a thoroughly drinkable blended malt - relatively one-dimensional, but without anything special without unpleasant off-flavors, - if you don't expect much, you get a solid whiskey for a small dollar
Nice, uncomplicated, inconspicuous, easy to drink at a fair price - but still a very simple whiskey!
Value for money indeed - quite simple profile but I like the nose - minor flaws in the finish, one can detect some distinct youth elements

Papaya, tropical fruits, orange zest, tangerine segments, vanilla, fresh vanilla, light malt and new white wood. Warm but without burning or the smell of alcohol. Honey, propolis, pollen, sawdust in an active sawmill, but also mature wood, a used but well-preserved barrel, yeast, demerara sugar and a subtle smoky touch. Finished with melons, mangoes, sugared almonds and candied almonds, plus gum arabic. With water, it released more vanilla, sweet and dry grains like morning flakes, honey, and wildflowers appeared with bees foraging in the sun, replacing the fruits. Revealed, let's get to the ice! Ripe orange, bergamot, malt, caramel, clove, and cinnamon. Somewhat creamy sensation. |

Here it's a little spicy, tannic, and has the expected sweet and fruity notes: tutti-frutti, citrus zest, sugary hints of orange, light malt, and an elegant, almost new barrel. A sulphurous touch of cooked vegetables, but there's much more cooked fruit, then crystallized in granulated sugar. With water it remains tannic but without spiciness, young and fresh wood, lots of vanilla, yeast and a touch of sulfur. Crème brûlée, cooked yellow fruits and propolis. Once revealed, place a small ice cube in 30 ml and all that remains is cream with orange zest, orange blossom water, malt, dried grains and honey. |

Interesting story behind this. Easy sipping while watching the rugby without having to think about it and not at all complex. A youthful harsh blend of Speyside whiskies. Hint of Toffee, honey, oak, pepper. Easy sipper on budget, good value blend.

What a smell like a taste. Only the order is different. First, the sweetness of vanilla, caramel, which quickly disappears. The alcohol remains, burning, stinging in the throat, with a distinct pepper. And an apple at the end. |

Here, too, alcohol dominates, mixed with spices and wood from the barrel. You can smell pepper, vanilla and apple. The bitterness of the woody tannins stays the longest. |
This whisky is pretty good for it's price, it's sweet and clean. It's a little metallic due to its youth but overal a pretty good bang for your buck.
simple, solid. I like the label.
No stinging in the nose a little bit of pity A little malty at the end
Really can't complain about this one for 23 euros... It somewhat reminds me of Vat 69, and I enjoy Vat 69 in comparison with other supermarket budget blends (Red Label, Ballantines, Grants, Cutty Sark). If this is competing with Monkey Shoulder for supermarket's top blended malt, it wins for me over MS, but for the same price I would rather go with Cutty Sark Prohibition and still save 4 euros. The nose is quite impressive for the price, the taste is a little bit too alcoholic and metallic, and the finish is basically non-existent. But still, better than JW Black and JW Sweet Peat!
Weak stuff. The nose is acceptable at best, but the taste is definitively worse

I'm still very new to tasting Whisky, but the first thing that comes to mind is: "What a fun Whisky to drink. Not complex but with an impressive finish". A nice dram for the price you pay for it.
