Good value for money, in the nose it has something of a single pot still Irish whiskey.

Grain Greign is a clever way of phonetically rendering "grain." This is simply a 20-year-old single grain whisky, selected by Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender at John Dewar's & Sons. It was blended from grain whisky matured in both former bourbon and sherry casks. The nose is silky smooth. While the typical notes of varnish and pencil shavings, which I often find in grain whisky, are clearly present, I also get a good amount of fruitiness here in the form of lemon, mandarin, and banana. Vanilla ice cream. A hint of ginger and popcorn. If grain whisky is your thing, you'll love this one. The body is quite light, and now it's all vanilla and oak, complemented by a hint of caramel and a hint of roasted hazelnut. It's very sweet, but in a pleasant way. Chocolate appears, the typical grain spiciness makes an appearance, and a hint of bitterness is also present. But all in all, this is quite a pleasant and dangerously drinkable grain. The finish is medium long, cloyingly sweet and a touch floral. Well, I didn't expect that, but this grain whiskey is really quite delicious and very reasonably priced. This could also be used in many cocktails. Thanks, Pat!
Single grain Scotch whiskey aged 20
Nice sweet grainnase, vanilla, but also sherry, which is palpable in the mouth. Soft but 40% warm, with a bit bitter at the end. The finish is long and barrel-weighted. Easy Drinking, but still aromatic and ripe flavors. I am positively surprised.
Even though I'm not a friend of Grain Whiskey, it's not all that bad. Simple and exciting to drink, but without leaving a lasting impression. Very nice for the price, but one sample is enough for me.

I like single grain whisky, and this one is one of the best ive tried so far. I love the sherry notes, and i dont mind confessing i keep coming back to it, despite the almost disappointing finish and explosive grainy notes. Good value for money. Pros: Underrated and, in my opinion, way better than his brother The Observatory 20. Those sherry casks add a complexity, sweetness and red notes that make it actually very enjoyable and overall friendly and approachable. The grain notes are so well balanced it reminds me of at good Irish pot still whisky. It is also very flavourful, you dont have to chase the notes around. Finally, the 20 years in the barrel made this whisky specially smooth, i cant find any of the serious flaws young whiskies usually have, but... Cons: ...still, the grain alcohol is very much present. If you dont like it, this is not your whisky. Its very, very thin, almost like water. No punch at all because of the 40%, despite of those 20 years. Super grainy, not malty at all. Lacks personality. I dont think anybody but an expert could guess this is over 12-15 years old. Similar to: Redbreast 12. They share the subtle sherry, the pot-still-ness, and the weakness, at 40% both. Redbreast is better, because of the nice complexity this one lacks (still, more complex than most people in this website think imho). Kilbeggan Single Grain: they both balance the massive grain notes perfectly, but the Kilbeggan is better imho. It has a personality this one lacks. Intensidad: 3/5 (Adequate) Complejidad: 3/5 (Adequate) Originalidad/ heterodoxia: 2/5 (Orthodox) Densidad/ presencia en la boca: 2/5 (Slightly watery) Relación calidad/precio: 4/5 (Good price at 35 - 40€)
very mediocre. A clear grain profile with lots of vanilla. Given the age, I expected a little more

In the nose first a note of nail polish remover. He looks minty fresh. Then comes sweet vanilla. Occasionally a bit musty, dusty. The slightly musty nail polish is consistently present. Is not mine. |

Water: no Conclusion: not that bad at all, I like it very much, even if you don't really notice anything about the sherry barrels and the age

The Greign is an older single grain whisky bottled at macduff. It matured in ex bourbon and sherry casks at 40 ABV. Nose: citrus, vanilla, cereals and a hint of sherry. Palate: creamy and soft with lots of vanilla, apple, toffe light spices and again aromas of cereals. finish: soft and creamy and more oak influences.

Single Grain is really my thing. For this money you can hardly buy a whiskey that tastes even better. Ok, it won't stick around for long. But it certainly has spice and if you taste it you would expect more than 40%. Which distillery will be behind this (Girvan?)

PROS: + price (one of the better SG grain whiskeys in this price range) CONS: - 40% (a bit too flat). For example Kilbeggan Single Grain is also 40% but is deeper. Comments: This is a good position if someone wants to start with Single Grain. Age does its thing. Often Single Grain, which were much younger, were simply weaker in reception. I recommend trying.

Not too complex. Nose has hints of vanilla, taste is sweet and smooth, some spicyness, hints of vanilla again and distant sherry . Finish is short with bitterness at the end.
Very light and mild whiskey. Of course it's not a single malt, but it's just right for a warm summer evening. Also good for guests who are not yet familiar with whiskey. Fair price

Soft and fresh. Unfortunately, with 40% alcohol, it is just a bit too weak.
My expectations were low (since I've never had anything decent from Macduff in my glass before), but I was still disappointed. It's certainly drinkable for the price, but you generally have to like single grain whiskies and not have too high expectations. I'd rather spend a few euros more and buy a higher-quality single malt. You get more out of it.

Value for money score: 84. I actually tasted the taste of American bourbon and French Armagnac in the Souvery. Although it doesn’t have many layers and flavors, it does not prevent it from being a very interesting grain whiskey. Overall, it is worth it. Just give it a try.
Really weak grain The nose dominates with glue, hardly any taste in the mouth and the finish is absent
a simple whiskey with no special features.
Surprisingly good for a grain whisky. The sherry cask is really beneficial here. It's sweet and actually tastes more like bourbon than scotch, but that's just grain whisky for you. Don't expect to be able to compare it to a malt, they're very different. This whisky really gets you drunk fast btw, that's just how less pure grain is compared to malt. Avoid drinking too much of this unless you're looking for a headache!
Simple, fruity and really tasty. Otherwise, but rather calm and unimpressive. Very easy with little depth. He is fine, but not anymore.
