I like this, I like this a lot, it has a nice creamy mouthfeel with the peat, hints of brine and possibly iodine but it is the stewed fruits like plum, green gooseberry and perhaps fig. The peat is mixed with some nice spice and it lurks in the background behind the fruit but as the fruit dissipates the peat comes out, not in your face peat and spice, quite subtle actually but the best part is the finish, it just lingers on lovely sweet peat. The balance here is excellent. Perfect Islay whisky for me, perhaps just looses it a little in the middle but that would be nitpicking for the sake of it. This is a world away from the in your face and blunt trauma of Laphy 10 bottlings now.

Brilliant old laphroaig, the subtle medicinal laphroaig notes but also all the fruits from that era, delicious

Nose: fruity-oily, peaty and sweet-fruity and nutty notes. Taste: rich, oily, medicinal-sweet-fruity. The aftertaste is quite long, spicy and fruity. 23-22-22-23

Soft, light, intelligent, this whisky is made for leisurely consumption among gentlemen. Tones of fruit jam combine with a light touch of smoke, sea cucumber, iodine and salt.

It's a shame that things like this don't exist anymore. Material fit for the gods. 91-100 – Whisky heaven, best stuff

Those older batches are less peaty but more fruity and floral.

One of the best whiskys I've ever tasted! At the Whisky DeLuxe Fair in Berlin 2023 I had this opportunity at an almost bearable price.

It's very complicated It tastes completely different from the current one The main feeling is the savory taste of grain and the mushy wood scent of old wooden buildings Citrus with elegant sweetness and tangerine peel peel oil Old Bottle's distinctive newspaper feel Towards the end, it is finished with newspaper ink and charcoal scent that you can feel the next morning after already burning it the day before

Overall, a recognizable Laphroaig, but without the abundance of medicinal notes. Great nose, good balance. Cool old-school drinking whisky. Of course, you should drink this in large sips for pleasure. At today's price, it makes no sense other than a beautiful bottle on the shelf

It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is highly intense. I detect aromas of pleasant, maritime peat smoke, vanilla, crème brûlée, pipe tobacco, leather, citrus, nuts, tropical fruits, chocolate, raisin syrup, and herbs. Moderately complex. On the palate, it has a good balance between sweetness and dryness. The alcohol is well integrated and has a substantial body.

Score for a Cinzano bottle from 1980 and a Cinzano bottle from around 1975. Both scored 92 points

Laphroaig unblended 1987 Cinzano imp cork stopper version scbp-6532, a very standard 70s Laphroaig, has an advantage in taste and texture compared to some versions. An old Solvay with a strong sweetness and a peaty flavor.

Tasted from a sample. A lovely old thing. The nose and palate are elegant, waxy and fruity, and while the finish does lose some intensity after all these years, it’s very good overall.

The rich flavor reminds me of Springbank from the Japanese market in the 1980s.

N is the taste of Islay that I like, floral, light fruity, honey, berries, a little hospital, and a little star anise at the end The entrance of T is slightly sweet, with a touch of peat, floral, and normal fruit flavor. The latter is more inclined to grass, and the whole process has a smoke flavor. F is medium and short, grass, and the bitterness of cinnamon I really like, the taste is indeed a little monotonous, and the alcohol content is not high

A lower rating again from my side. Based on a shared sample 2013. This was pretty weak in all aspects. Did the bottle maturation wipe out some of the awaited flavors? Not sure what happened exactly but this 10cl sample was not worth the money. I tased a CS bacth 004 afterwards and found this so much more delightful and rich. 83P in my books. Maybe there are much better bottles of this?

this 80s Italian bottling Laphroaig very diffrent from Laphroaig bottlings nowadays. more fruits, and lower peat. and wonderfuly drinkable.

Are older bottlings of Leapfrog really better? Are old Leapfrog 10 year old really as legendary as been said a million times? I cannot say that for sure about a 1989 bottling (not 'unblended') that I have tried. However, it is a resounding YES for this piece of leapfrog history! On the nose, leapfrog goodness! Floral and vanilla notes presented ever so elegantly. Then baskets of tropical fruits sweep in with smoke and mild hints of medicinal notes in the background. With time and water, intense sherry sweetness and nutty notes rush out. Notes of coconut also develop. Also some hints of citrus. No modern Leapfrog 10 year olds are even close to this. A truly unbeatable nose! On the palate, elegant and ever present with notes of mango, coconut and citrus. Vanilla and oak sweetness then develops with hints of floral notes. Notes of peat smoke and iodine in the background but never intimidating (much less smoke as compared to modern releases of Leapfrog). With water, sherry, nuts and slight hints of raisin. A complex beast! The finish is medium and transitions from floral notes to nutty notes. At 43% abv, this has surpassed my expectations for it in every way. It is interesting to taste Leapfrog 10 by era as to observe the changes in style of it. Having had a fair amount of Leapfrogs myself (Leapfrog is my favourite distillery), I must say this might have been one of the most memorable and enjoyable drams! A masterful style that is lost and no longer produced by the distillery!

Hmm, blindly I would have thought that it was some kind of Benromach, or even Springbank. There's a sort of buttery-yeasty characteristic that I like. And also dried mango, Pu-erh tea, and very delicate, unobtrusive smoke. Delicious, intriguing. It is very different from the modern tens. But I will be frank, I was not stunned.

A soft and delicate Laphroaig. I would love to keep a bottle around and take my time enjoying it.

Nose: intense fresh white fruits, oily. Hints of peat with very balanced fruits and sweetness that is rich and complex. Transform to very syrupy sweetness accompanied by rich white fruits to create a very soothing nose. With water, more pronounced sweetness with hints of citrus and acidic profiles that match well with the overall aroma, with nuttiness emerges later in the transformation Palate: Starts off with iodine and medicinal tastes, slowly transform into heavy white fruits and honey with peaty notes in the background. Oily and quite full bodied for a 43% as the dram wraps around the palate and fill the mouth Finish: Long with a fresh Peaty flavor and dry profile, and sherry when with water At 43%, this dram is as complex as it gets. Much like a cask strength whisky but presented in a very elegant way. After trying this beautiful laphroaig, it only leave space for imagination of all those possibilities with cask strength laphroaigs from that era...
