Really good on the nose, going little into leafy and herbacious notes on the palate - overall very good

I would describe the nose as composed, it hints at many things without revealing the sum of it parts. (just bear with me on that) The palate has vibrant fruit of plum, apple, fig, and dark berry's and the peat is there but it is so refined that it gently washes over your tongue, unlike the regular 16 year old that tries to rip your tongue out. The balance on show is excellent and the sweet spices just add to the overall effect with some sweet orange marmalade.

great sherried lagavulin, flawless

Tasted just after # 0016 27 years old. It is here much more melted and complex. The sherry is also more marked. The texture and balance are really to my liking. 92.5

Tasted with the following Lagavulins: 18yo Feis Ile 2016 (88 pts.), Distillery Exclusive 2017 (87), Islay Jazz Festival 2017 (86), Lagavulin 16yo White Horse late 1990s (90), 25yo 1977-2002 (93), and 25yo 2016 "200 years of L. Distillery Managers" (91).

Gentle farmy notes with cardboard, peat, pepper and a maritime honey sweetness. Iodine, orange liqueur, ashes, pencil lead as well as caramel and wet earth. Taste: Creamy thick and instantly voluminous. Orange, pepper, maritime salt, iodine and fine oak wood are on the palate. In addition, leather, chocolate, humidor (cigars), again tingling grains of salt and hints of menthol. Fresh and dry to the finish. The sweet honey note runs profoundly with. Notes of cigars and humidor are present throughout. Finish: But still quite long - chocolate, honey, peat, wet coal, iodine, pepper, old ship rope and cardboard, finely dry finish. No monster finish, rather the filigree Lagavulin. Note: This malt takes a lot of time. Also at the finish! At the beginning, the departure is rather short and not very present. After a long breathe he changes completely - then it fits! 92 points (nose: 92 / taste: 93 / finish: 92) Thus, all special bottlings are tasted and evaluated for the 200th anniversary of the Lagavulin distillery. All bottlings were gone through the bank more than just succeeded. The most expensive bottling was not the best and the cheapest not the worst!

My favorite laga, the ceiling in my heart

Classic Lagavulin profile on the nose, with the Sherry cask relatively discrete. Plenty of the trademark crystal clean peat, salty sea air and citrus fruits then, and not too dissimilar to the 2017 Distillery Exclusive bottling; the one I had close to hand to pour a comparator dram. However, with time, softer fruity notes do begin to emerge, alongside some creamy honey and a hint of well-integrated, leathery oak. The age only really shows itself after 10+ minutes in the glass. Beautiful, and very classy. The Sherry cask becomes more evident on the palate (delivering a significant upgrade on the 2017 Distillery Exclusive from the palate onwards), where it provides a wonderful velvety and creamy backdrop, allowing the peat smoke and fruits to warm you up slowly, accompanied by some dark chocolate/cocoa, a hint of chilli peppers and Hebridean sea salt. The finish is very long and softly smoky (not as in-your-face as younger Islay drams tend to be). Here, the added age really makes its mark. An incredibly well-balanced dram then, and a fantastic example of how good older Lagavulin can be. Crazy price, but all for a good cause I guess.

insane whisky

A nicely balanced, round and oaky Lagavulin, with a moderate sherry influence, on honey, fudge and some orange. Very good, but not the best one I have tasted so far.
