I really wanted to compare this one against the Springbank 10yo Local Barley 2020 - first of all - the color is really the same - the abv is also almost the same - on the nose the LB has clearly more exotic spices, but the 10yo sherry is sweeter with more acacia honey - on the palate, the LB is more dirty, the 10yo sherry more chocolaty and no dirt - honestly, I'm not sure which one is the better one - probably, I should rate both the same

Highly anticipated, extremely sought-after, unobtainium - is this controversial bottling actually worth it? Rich, heavy and earthy, the nose highlights molasses, strawberries and tobacco, while the peat is taking a backseat. Plums, cocoa and farmy notes appear. Dense flavors of stewed fruits unfold on the palate before it turns peppery, mineral and slightly peaty. The Springbank DNA is concealed under a thick layer of PX, think sugar-coated funk. Berry purée, oak spices and gentle peat smoke mark the decent finish. A good dram for sure, but it feels a bit forced. RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 88 pts → FIRST-CLASS

To be honest, I usually don't enjoy aging PX sherry so I didn't have high expectations. Which is why I was all the more pleasantly surprised. In addition, the alcohol is beautifully integrated and does not sting. I wouldn't even blindly guess the barrel strength. I was mainly surprised by the incredible density on the palate, which you don't just come across. By the way, I prefer the undiluted version - adding water is more of a disadvantage in this particular case.
21 22 21 21 85 Strange release as for me, pretty good, but.... It evokes such associations in me - we have such a well-known story), if stated correctly, the title will be: "A lot of oil" .... They interfered, chemically, and here is the result, sorry, escaped (((... Ok, maybe I'm too strict with my favorite distillery) after all, a good sherry whisky, a cool topic to drink, but nothing more than , and the further you sit with it, the more it falls apart in terms of balance .. I would not want such a bottle for myself, this I think everything has been said.
Very much on red fruits, oak, liquorice, maraschino cherries, caramel, cinnamon, cloves, orange, citrus, burnt sugar, vanilla, spicy oak, pretty much flawless, much better than I expected.
The 10 PX Sherry Wood is the start of a series of Springbank bottlings matured in sherry casks. An exciting story - actually. Were it not for this unspeakable price development. Springbank has long been one of my favorite distilleries. This mineral, oily, sometimes very bulky and demanding: love it or hate it, there is not much in between. In addition, Springbank is still not part of a large corporation and they really do take care of their people. Very sympathic. What a joy it was when the latest Society Newsletter rolled in and announced the upcoming releases: the new Hazelburn, Longrow Red, Springbank 12 CS, Springbank 18 and all the other tasty bottlings from there. Longrow Red 13yo Malbec Cask Matured for 79,-? The biannual new batch of Springbank 12 CS for 59,-? That's history. And with the Springbank 12 CS, this not only affects the price, but the pure existence, because this year (2022) there has not been a single new batch so far (as of 12/15/22). In 2020/2021 pinball started to discover Springbank. Small edition, so you can certainly do something with it. Suddenly it was no longer so easy to shop at the usual prices. Then it got difficult, then very difficult. Ultimately almost impossible. What the f**k? A distillery is unintentionally saying goodbye to my portfolio of pleasures, and I can't do anything about it. Absolutely devastating. The five stages of death according to Kübler-Ross: Dont want to believe it anger Negotiate depression acceptance fit here perfectly. I've already gone through all phases once and am now in my second round, Stage: Anger. What is it to puke that you can only get this whisky, which should cost maybe (at most) around 80, 90 euros, in a bundle with other bottles or on its own for up to 700 euros (sic!). Or you are just lucky and have a good and fair local dealer. But it shouldn't be like that, not at all. About the 10 PX Sherry Wood: PX Sherry cask is the program. Very clean barrels, but the Springbank kick is missing a bit, the mineral, the oily. But he is delicious.

Very (really very) clear notes of sherry: raisins, dried figs and dates, old leather, pipe tobacco. Very clean barrels, absolutely no sulphur. It acts fat creamy tight. All flavors close together. After a while, wild berries and blueberries, nougat and rum-raisin chocolate appear. Some machine oil flashes in the far distance, but that is and remains the only reminiscence of the classic Springbank character. |

A soft and creamy, in parts slightly tart start, in which wild berries, blackcurrants and blueberries cavort, flanked by raisins and dried figs. A slightly tart herbal mixture is introduced, presented on a tray made of freshly worked oak wood. Café au lait, caramel, fudge, an old, creaky leather armchair, tobacco leaves. After a while, peppermint crowds out the berry fruits. |

very intense colour, a dark brown. But it doesn't smell sweet like sherry, rather dry and spicy after wood. Slight smoke in the background. He looks old and mature very aromatic! Oh! Lovely! Well sweet and spicy at the same time. Very harmonious. The sherry tries to assert itself but the wooden notes hold up against it. A wonderful interplay. Surprisingly mild in the mouth, at 55%. Yes, he has something it seems complex. The longer it is in the glass, the more sherry-heavy it becomes. A dream!

original Tasting notes: NOSE An unmistakable Sherry influence presents itself from the beginning, with rich notes of date syrup and raisins kicking off this full-bodied dram. TASTE A tannic, spicy element is introduced in the palate, along with notes of cola cubes, cherry menthol, cinnamon and caramel. The typical Springbank characteristics hold their own against the heavy PX influence in an apparent oiliness and damp, dunnage note. FINISH The tannic element continues through to the finish, and PX qualities come to the forefront in notes of sultanas and rich spices.

Thank you, Stas, for the opportunity to try. Compared with wb244838. Still, I like PX better - rounder, sweeter. In the foreground, sweet sherry and its derivatives - chocolate, nuts, plum syrup. Sweet earthy peat, some dirt. Less spicy, velvety taste, chewy. Gentle aftertaste. 22.5-22.5-22-22

A good sherry casks selection, with predominant cherries and plums notes. Nothing special for a Springbank OB, few steps below the 12yo cast strength editions.
I have to admit that this is a great whisky. A real beauty. However, the price tag and unavailability of this whisky absolutely disqualifies them.
COLOR: dark amber / mahogany - an extremely good single malt from Springbank - better than the Amontillado Cask of the 2024 series - the barrel was probably still quite "wet", still tastes extremely delicious but I found this filigree touch on the Palo Cortado 2023 better - for 400 - 600€ of course not an option to try quickly, pure collector's value, but for the original approx. 100 - 120 pounds issue price a correspondingly good quality in the glass

A powerful nose, which starts with scents of tobacco. We continue with greasy leather, almost burnt caramel, cloves, tarte tatin, pine honey, and very greasy big wood. We finish with plum and cocoa powder. Rather nice, but not everything is very well integrated, the spices taking center stage. |

In the mouth, it's rounder than the nose would let me think. We always have this fatty leather, accompanied by plum, black cherry, date. It's much more fruity and generous. Refined sugar, light molasses, cloves, melted dark chocolate, fir honey. Still smoke, on the cigar, and we have a nice salinity that develops. It works very well. |

I heard at my whisky club that there was hardly any Springer DNA. I see differently. Both in the nose (okay, the Blender's always gets a lot out of it) and on the palate I find mineral-maritime notes as well as the typically dirty smoke. Only the salty citrus notes are a little weaker than usual. Only in the finish does the barrel dominate somewhat. Nevertheless, for me a very good malt for the issue price, great bottling! Great barrels, looks older and more mature to me than the age statement. Nice intensity. Not quite as awesome as the LB 10 Oloroso though.

This despite not even being a champion on paper, it was flipped without shame. Greetings to Carolina of Pozzo Terme.
There are already so many notes here, so I actually wanted to keep it short: the barrels are too dominant, overall a bit disappointing. But it's not quite that simple. For a 10 year old malt at cask strength and probably a blend of 20 casks it's actually very ok. For 100 euros, the price a whisky like this would cost without the name, I would celebrate this bottling. If you want a whisky in which the sherry aromas are too present, then this is the best; because the Springbank character can still be felt in the background. Between 88 and 89 points. Really good for the key data. Of course not at all for the price.

88.5 Strawberries, then a bit of heaviness from currants. But right behind it is mineral smoke. Hmm, it's not as mediocre as my first impression was. But it's not worth a clear 89 points either. Does a 10-year-old bottling with a batch from which 10,800 bottles were filled have to be worth 89 points? If you have to pay over 300 euros for it, then definitely. If you just look at the key data, then this bottling isn't all that disappointing. |

The mouthfeel is intense, more heavy than oily and the finish is almost long. Striking, salty, sweet, peaty, metallic, old malt, somehow sufficiently complex for a whisky with a minimum age of 10 years. Perhaps Springbank also donated one or two older barrels to the batch here. |
A wonderfully dark Springbank, which, after seven years in refill bourbon barrels, was then matured for three years in fresh PX Spanish oak hogsheads. Of course, this is also a whisky you can't buy. At least you could get a sample at the regular price from Simple Sample at the end of 2023, which I'm now looking forward to. glen-efze.de

Tempest of the Sherry Gods Rich and indulgent with big cask-driven stewed fruits, chocolate, and lacquered wood. Blood oranges and pomegranate syrup over shaved ice, the impression of a cool snack eaten while meandering through a spice market and open sacks of peppercorns, cloves, and freshly ground cinnamon. A touch of coffee and wispy smoke from tobacco pipe lingered in the background. Full-bodied with big wood tannins and a cask-driven profile similar to the aroma. More coffee and lacquered wood developed early on while dried or stewed fruits and dense honey-soaked pastries lingered in the background. Drying with a touch of roasted tea leaves and barley toward the end, I kept waiting for more of the spicy undercurrent to come forward. Water did the trick, bringing out more fruits and spice while taming some of the tannic woodiness. The finish was long and drying with dark chocolate, lacquered wood, and vibrant spice. This was loaded with the big cask notes that appeal to many a modern whisky drinker. That big cask style is not to my taste, though, so fans of Springbank or sherry bombs will no doubt love some of the elements that I found less interesting or appealing. The casks were quality and loaded with flavor, but they pummeled the malt into submission so that it only appeared around the edges. I initially found the whisky too tannic and drying, never bitter despite the dark chocolate notes, but on subsequent revisits, those qualities felt less off-kilter and more balanced. Overall, I understand why some people love this, so I am tempted to score it higher. However, sherry bombs are not my style, even if this one was above average.
springbank drowned in PX cask, like last 15 yo but more % and px. Quite drinkable. Nice dram
It is a very nice whisky. But the extremely high scores make me wonder... is Springbank really that good? Is it the cult status that largely determines the scores? How big is the finger of the flippers in this porridge? I give him 87 points. But with your heels over the ditch. The whisky really needs some water to open. If you don't do this, you might as well press your nose into a glass of PX.
first impression: modern sherry cask finished whisky. But wait: it is not a finish, but a recasking. Works pretty well here. At initial price of around 90 GBP (or 129 Euros), this is a bargain compared to the quality you get today in average. Not an old school Springbank, but a really nice whisky to dig in, A pity that it became directly out on the market a flipping whisky. Thank you Springbank for being so fair in 2022

I see some people saying "the cask is dominant," but I'm not sure if they fully understand what to expect when buying a PX cask whisky. I think such a balanced contribution could only be obtained from such a dominant cask type; of course, it's also desired to be dominant for the sake of the series' concept, we shouldn't forget that. It's a very successful bottling, spicy, full-bodied, and sweet. While current prices don't fully confirm the liquid's presence, there's no harm in trying a sample. Clean sherry cask, which is not always the case with Springbank. Especially the nose was beautiful, and the sherry does not "drown" the malt as someone else said but rather compliments it quite well. It's obviously got a lot of sweetness and already a fair amount of complexity for a 10 year old, but that's more down to the Springbank character than to the maturation. I really liked it, but even at €139 it was already bordering being overpriced, let alone at what some "investors" are trying to sell it for on here.

Very long. Sweet, peat, mineral, slightly salty. Malt aroma, a touch of lemon peel, a little white pepper and cardamom. |
Incredibly rich of course. Because of the 7 year maturation in bourbon there is still lots of Springbank character in there. The 3 year in PX was just enough, and the sherry series will see the spirit mature in sherry casks longer and longer. This one is on the edge of being overpowered, but it isn't. It is a well balanced dram with all the good and fruity characteristics from the PX. I am convinced.
A really beautifully matured sherry whisky. No trace of sulphur, such as is sometimes found at Springbank. However, I would not have recognized it blindly as a Springbank either, the barrel is as dominant as the color suggests. That's why I rate it a little worse than I would have rated a comparable sherry monster from another distillery.

A fantastic Whisky - for the release price! All you can expect from a PX-matured Springbank. Against some critical ratings I could hardly find any harsh or bitter notes. The whole panoply of aromas is quite sweet with lots of typical dark fruits. Loved it...

Was curious what all the hype is about and tasted this bottling at Whisky Spring in Schwetzingen. And what a disappointment it is. Very youngish, wet cask finish malt without any distinct character that could come from any distillery. This is by no means worth more than 50 EUR. And for the record: I do like Springbanks 15/18/21 a lot.

It would have been better if they used these barrels for their standard 10yo or some other project. It's quite an unbalanced whisky whose only bright spot is the nose, which I find excellent. The taste is far from what it should be. And when we look at the price of approx. 130 euros (rrp), I think there are a lot of bottles that would suit most people better for half the price.

Although at first I would expect classic sherry notes, the first thing that I smell is coffee for some reason. Leather armchair, dark chocolate, very interesting nose at first. When I move the glass back a little and bring it back to my nose, I get a pronounced saltiness of seafood, such as shellfish. It has a hint of lemon and hay, but both are quite muted, sherry notes predominate. Since I know it's Springbank, I'm probably putting it into my head to feel the Springbank funk, but I don't think I could tell that on a blind tasting. With time in the glass, the note of coffee turns into a note of tiramisu, rounding off beautifully with time. With more time, you get a light orange or tangerine peel (you could even say some Jaffa biscuits). Great nose! |

Very spicy dram, medium salty, oily, dark chocolate bitterness, and the note of leather from the nose. I wouldn't say that it is too well balanced, alcohol plays quite a role in the taste experience. With a nose like this, I expected the taste to follow the nose, but unfortunately not even close. It's very alcohol-driven, already on the third sip I'm trying to identify more specific notes, but the only new thing I get is some faint lemony taste and very little mint (freshness). |

The PX coming through a tad too much here. The balm-like texture sticks, sweet jam and some drier tobacco notes make for a medium long finish. It does make for a very quaffable, albeit simple Springbank. |
Aroma of wine, raisins, dried cherries, spice, tobacco, a little smoke. Bright powerful taste with berry and fruit tones. Long aftertaste with juicy wine tones, red berries and spices.
The cask is pretty dominate and with water added you get the Springbank signature a bit more. Not blown away, but pretty good.

It has full sherry notes, but they don't overwhelm the whisky, so that it's much more than just sweet. I like it very much, great drink. It's a shame that the market is the way it is at the moment. The less Springbank "Springbank" I´ve ever tasted. The monster PX maturation is like a bulletproof jacket that hides everything behind. I do not feel the Springbank character anywhere here, nor the 7 years of bourbon maturation. Nose is fine but global experience is very one dimensional. By the way, in a blind tasting I would swear this is a pure Lagavulin 16, or the Distillers Edition. Anything but Springbank. Similarities: above mentioned.

A nice PX-forward whisky that is less fruity and more spicy than a PX would lead you to expect. The Springbank profile is somewhat ruined by the sherry cask. The Palo Cortado edition from the following year is more complex and more balanced.

This isn't great, I'd place it average or just above in reality. The wood and distillate are still working things out. Shame, but look forward to the next release in the series to compare.
The aroma has the herbal fruity feel of pear peel, and the taste has consistent minerality. On the contrary, it does not have the texture of heavy milk powder.
Nice sherry nose, surprisingly well integrated alcohol. the sherry profile is full - but the distillery character is clearly recognizable. In terms of taste, it looks significantly older than 10 years.
Springbank 10 years =>Very heavy sherry cask.after 10 mins breathing, a hint of malt aroma start to come out. its definitely over oak. Slightly bitter. very disappointing especially given the super high current secondary market price. =>Score: 83[Recommend to try]
Ah man, I didn’t want to like this as much as I did, but it’s very good. It is not at all smothered, like I expected it would be, but is actually a pretty successful marriage of Springbank and classic PX flavors. Really decadent and lovable.

Prunes, raisins, dates all soaked in syrup — of course — it’s huge PX here! Dried tobacco leaves, a faint bit of wet mucky peat smoke, varnished wood, a coppery metallic undertone like an overheating machine. After a bit of a rest the distillate comes forward a bit more, brighter fruits like pears and plums, and thick maltiness. |

Not much springbank left, so if you're looking for that funkiness you'll find very little (there is some present, especially in the finish). But objectively its a nice sherry matured whisky with a good body and nice sweetness, just not that complex. I'd take the 21 yo longrow single cask (WB 213924) any day over this as that feels more refined, has more funk and is more complex despite its albeit rather low abv, plus it isn't as dry as this.

Great release! But I see why it is divisive. Bottle opened recently, so the tasting notes are written when fresh. The water makes wonders! With a couple of drops, it unlocks it's full potential as it becomes even fruitier and the hidden Springbank funk becomes alive with the right punch.

Absolutely love springbank, but with these bonkers prices nowadays... Enough said about that, but probably a factor in terms of expectations. I managed to get a couple of samples at fair price. This is round one of those. Overall a more than decent dram, but not a standout for me. Factoring in it's the first time I was unable to get a bottle at fair price at my go-to store.. I'm also just hugely annoyed.

I'm not impressed at all! Tried it in direct comparison to an older (2018/2019) AS WE GET IT Highland bottling from IM which is almost identical in every sense. Good stuff if you ignore the price/performance ratio... Buy a bottle from IM and spend the rest on something worth it!
Springbank 15 is at least as good, if not better. Anyone who pays more than 120€ for it is just badly advised if you ask me.
I am tasting it for the second time, a year after the first sample. Mashed sweet raspberries, baked apples, Toblerone milk chocolate, a little farm and tobacco, black tea. The taste is silky, full-bodied with plum jam, and the aftertaste is warming, medium. Still, the barrel dominates here, and I want more Springbank characteristics. By the way, I will allow myself a comparison with Kilkerran 8 Sherry Cask, which is quite similar, a relatively more affordable option, and in my opinion, even more interesting.

Nose - Intense with initial notes of black cherries, blood orange, cola cubes. As it opens up - A hint of burnt toast and a faint whiff of matchsticks. Palate - Really juicy and fruity. Lots of red fruits and berries. Finish - Quite dry with cranberries and some of that cola 'fizz'. For me it was the nose that stood out most. I couldn't find the various layers in nosing. (It was too simplistic and not enjoyable.) However, it showed an attractive taste and excellent finish. 2023.02.19 @ 'swing' coffee & bar The bottle was newly opened 3 days ago, and the remaining amount was about 1/3. I savored 30ml slowly for over an hour, and a drop of water helped a little to improve my nosing.

Great sherry but unfortunately priced at the dealer also completely wrong. We shared it with five of us. And with the best will in the world I cannot understand what the dealer said. Allegedly only 80 bottles came to Germany. Priced at 250 euros, it's an absolute nightmare. How so ????? 10 years ago there were 5 bottles and ok would have been 100€ today. But that was my last Springbank. Sorry I'm a bon vivant and a new 10 year old should stand up to the retailer for the said issue price (and this was around £90 in the UK) and when I do the math, either the retailer is the thief or I'm just stupid.
Px influence makes this one so delicious without sacrificing distillery's character.
Tastes very sweet and is one of my personal top 3 whiskys
Needs time in the glass, on the nose is very flat however the pallet is more complex, the finish is short however it’s a nice dram if you buy at rrp

The PX cask masked the malty flavor of Springbank, perhaps because I expected too much.
Nose - syrupy sweetness. Sultanas, dried dates. Cherries and plums in dessert chocolate. Sugar with butter in the pan. Canned peaches in syrup, overripe fruit, battered apples and forest berries. Cherry syrup and cherry delicata biscuits, dessert chocolate. Cherry jam, candied fruit. Dark honey, malt, some tobacco and leather. Heavily dried walnuts, cocoa powder. Hints of mint, herbs and liquorice. Ash and minerality. Light and spicy and barrel. After long aeration the aroma becomes more subdued with more cocoa, leather and black tea. Taste - more subdued sweetness with a slight spiciness. Toffee candy and again repeating from the aroma, dessert chocolate covered cherries and plums. Sultanas, dried dates and figs. Candied fruit and dark chocolate with orange. Coffee with sugar, blackcurrant. Lots of spicy spices, ginger. Light barrel bitterness, herbal tea with mint and a hint of salt. Finish - quite long, with considerable sweetness, chocolate-covered fruit, tiramisu, spiciness and leatheriness https://whiskymylife.wordpress.com/2023/03/20/springbank-10-yo-sherry-wood-pedro-ximenez-cask-matured-55/
This been released in pretty good price in US for its taste. Springbank funk and dirty sherry characters pop as you nose sip and finish for sure. Also can feel that this 3 yr maturation was done in very heavily seasoned px cask. Good dram even comp to local barley 2020.
Whoever wrote that the Kilkerran 8yr is a better, more affordable, more easily purchased option, is bang on the money. This is a really good bottle, too overly sherried in my opinion, but delicious. However, its price is absurd, and it just isn’t as good as Kilkerran 8 in my opinion. At retail worth a buy, but retail price does not exist anymore.
