Насыщенный хересный виски: тёмные фрукты, чернослив, изюм, тёмный шоколад, кожа, много дуба и характерная «острота» дистиллята Edradour. Опытные хвалят богатство, но упрекают в горечи, чрезмерной дубовости и спиртовой резкости.

В аромате доминируют дерево и смола — свежеструганая дубовая доска, лак и растворитель, вишнёвый сироп, чёрная вишня, сливовый джем, изюм, херес, тёмный шоколад, кофе и лёгкий намёк на серу; у многих проступает и узнаваемая «грязноватая» funk-нота Edradour. Вкус сладкий и бархатистый, насыщенный тёмными фруктами (вишня, красные ягоды, апельсиновая цедра, вымоченный в роме изюм), с тёмным шоколадом, орехами, замшевой кожей, но с ощутимой дубовой горечью и жгучей пряностью дистиллята. Послевкусие среднее или долгое, вяжущее и согревающее, с дубовыми танинами, чёрной вишней, какао и кожей; почти все сходятся, что глоток воды смягчает остроту и раскрывает профиль.
Опытные ревьюеры ставят сдержаннее (87–91) и формулируют главные претензии резче: от 23-летнего Edradour ждали большего, мешают избыточная горечь, дубовость и спиртовая резкость. Остальные оценки заметно разбросаны (84–98): часть называет напиток образцово сбалансированной хересной бомбой, лишь с чрезмерной крепостью в послевкусии, другие — «безупречно компетентным», но не зажигающим искру восторга; один автор в восторге от плотного, декадентского и характерного склада, признавая пряность фирменной чертой. Общая согласованность средняя: профиль все описывают схоже, но итоговый вердикт колеблется между «очень хороший херес, не более» и «выдающийся».

I expected something more from a 23 YO whisky, and even more so from Edradour. It's good, but not enough to delight me. Too much bitterness and woody notes.

Too alkoholic sharpness in comparison with 12yo and 21yo incl Symington Choice version. Drop of watter can improve spice balance.

A beautifully balanced sherry bomb. It is full of sweet woody notes, spices, sherry and dried fruit. The only flaw is that the alcohol is too strong. However, it is not at all evident in the aroma or taste, but only in the aftertaste.

For me, who doesn't like whisky that's too sweet, it's better than the PX version (WB243110).
Smell: dried figs and dark fruits Taste: dark fruits, cherries, wood, coffee beans
A typical older, yet "modern" sherry whisky. Mature Oloroso notes, raisins, berries, dried fruit, dark chocolate, but leaning more towards the bittersweet side. Definitely needs a little water to reveal its full character. With time in the glass, however, not much happens, in my opinion. The taste is "perfectly competent." It doesn't do anything wrong; everything you'd expect is there, but it doesn't quite ignite that final spark of enthusiasm. A very good sherry whisky, but unfortunately, nothing more.
With its character and heft, this dram deserves respect, and stage time of its own. Dirty, funky, unrepentantly decadent, and distinct.
| Нос | 98 | A deep, glowing umber spirit skirted by amber hues under the light. Dangerously dark, dense, and powerful. On the nose, boiled plums and mangosteens delivered the first punch, followed by a very loaded, and intense wave of wood varnish, dark chocolate, coffee grounds and monkfruit tea. Rounding the aromas up, is that unmistakable Edradour funk, reminiscent of my old army boots after a day of stomping under berry-bearing trees. |

As the dram swirled around the palate, the typical Edradour-wasabi spirit hits right out of the blue, blossoming into fireworks of fruit jams. Raisins, strawberries, cherries, and citrus hints could be detected. The kick of the spirit remains for the whole ride, carrying us to a calmer pool of boot leather, old oak, and the throes of a good Pinot Noir. This may be a little spicy for some, but knowing Edradour, this is simply a characteristic. The revered 21- and 30-year-old offerings possess this similar trait. Adding a couple drops of water tempers the spice and opens the flavour profiles wonderfully. |
