A delicious, fast horse, a young but handsome dram! 21+ 21 21+ 21 85
white wine, yellow fruits, citrus, vanilla, leather, probably too dirty for me
First of all: I do not reject young whisky in any way and I know many young whiskys that have a lot to offer. Springbank is one of my top 3 distilleries, the Springbank 10yo is one of my favorite standards. With this 5yo, however, I wonder what came over Springbank to bottle it at this age. I intentionally didn't write Notes right after opening the bottle, but waited until I was about a third of the way down the bottle. However, nothing changed due to increasing oxygen contact. And by that I mean: absolutely nothing. He remained and remains as gruff as at the beginning. And his gruffness shouldn't be confused with "honesty", no, he's just way too young.

A sparkling nose with grapefruit juice, sparkling champagne, damp pebbles and lemon peel zest. If you inhale too deeply, it becomes acrid, so add some water to try to stop this reaction. Experimental setup succeeded, with a good swing of water to 3cl it loses its bite without losing the other aromas. His focus is still on grapefruit and lemon, alongside a maritime freshness. |

Without water, it puts on a strong and snappy attack, with water this is the case and you can concentrate on its aroma, which is also citrus-heavy, fresh and mineral. It feels very tart and dry, almost raw and unpolished on the tongue. Hardly that one is able to find other aromas besides the aforementioned ones, given its very impetuous and rough nature even in the diluted state. |

Still quite a riot brother, even if he runs out of breath pretty quickly towards the end. Very tart, very dry, almost like a sparkling wine that is too dry. Grapefruit, kiwi, some honey. |

Fresh, funky, mineral, lemon, salt, fruit, no hint of brew. For every day and much more interesting and tastier than the regular 10. 21.5-21.5-21.5-21.5 (but closer to 87)

This is quite good, on par with similar age Ardnamurchan for me. That said, the 5yr from the 80s I like much better (89 points from me), but that has the benefit of a few decades in the bottle. This will probably improve as well. Fun to try, but I don't regret not buying a bottle. A bit dirty, very mineral, chalk, white fruits, vanilla, heathery, little coastal smoke, citrus. February 2026 Smokier than I remember. Nice! Up a point.

Butter and banana, mineral notes, biscuit and limestone, a hint of peat. Caramel, peanut butter, liquid honey, maple syrup on toasted bread. Paraffin, crushed grains, brown sugar. Grapefruit, a light touch of vanilla. Oily mouthfeel, yellow plums, mirabelle plums, greengage plums, generous spices, light oak, beeswax here and there, luscious citrus. Long and powerful finish, salt crystals, royal jelly, green apple, vanilla, honey, lime, dried herbs, pastry cream. It's a concentrated version of Springbank, with a lot of character, maybe even a little too much, but I didn't get any farm or barn notes, so something's still missing. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2026/06/springbank-2017-100-proof-5-yo-selected.html

Sampled at a tasting. Unmistakably young, like a punch-to-your-face type of young. Resembling its new make. Barley sugar. Hay. Vanilla custard. Peat is subdued by the fresh bourbon cask. Interesting to drink when I know it's Springbank but quality it's just okay. Actually, it's too young, I wouldn't reach out for another dram considering the outrageous secondary price.
Really good. Unfortunately only available for prices that are too high in my opinion. 83 points.

5yo, "fresh" bourbon, what could gone wrong? (irony). At least it still has some noticeable distillery DNA. I just doubt that "society" wants (and needs) this.
Fantastic malt...at only 5 years old

Ashy peat, marinated olives, engine oil, lemon, tropical fruits, salinity, hay. Reminds me of Longrow Peated. A few drops of water make the fruits come to the forefront. Youthful, but absolutely delicious. Give it time in the glass and you will be rewarded.

Young and enjoyable. The Springbank spirit is on stage here. I drank some of it mixed with Girvan grain, which basically made it a Campbeltown blend that Springbank releases yearly.
High quality young distillate - you can recognise the same mineral, smoke, citrus and butter profile that in further maturity turns into the complex and elegant bottlings from Springbank that we know and love (even if only a few extra years, ie the 10 or even the 12 cask strength bourbon matured from 2021). As it stands at 5 years old this bottling is a bit too rough around the edges and perhaps with a little too much bourbon wood spice. Nonetheless a delicious window into the young Springbank distillate

Springbank, check! The distillery character is there immediately and the colleague even sparkles a little. The youth jumps right into your face. Lots of citrus, unripe pineapple, warm vanilla milk, cane sugar, sea salt, hay and quite noticeable smoke. Might be due to the young age. |

Medium-long, warming, herbal and still with a strong peppery note. The bottling is downright ashy, still pleasantly sweet and chocolaty. |
Blind sample courtesy of a friend. Quite reminiscent of Longrow as others mentioned. The cask does its job while not overstepping its boundary, letting the malt character shine. Nice subtle sweet and bitter notes coming from the barrel, masking its youth only barely but also quite masterfully.
Tasted this from the vatting cask in January 2023. More on that occasion is to be found here: Good young stuff, showing that not only Ardnamurchan can make excellent young malt that tastes mature nonetheless. https://maltfascination.com/2023/03/04/taking-flight-with-the-springbank-stallions/
A really delicious dram. Springbank all the way.
You cannot get better whisky with 5 years of age....
Getting mineral notes on the nose with slight smoke. It's saline but a bit fruity. Get more fruit in the mouth. Some pear and bananas. A bit oily as well. Finish is quite long for such a young malt. Enjoyed it.

With the right amount of water this one clocks in at 87-88p for a 5 year i think this is a pretty good one.
Weird stuff, you can clearly tell that it's young. It has something, but I don't really like it, especially because of the weird notes: mineral, citrus notes, vanilla, vegetables (?!). Weird. 83/100 or 5/10

Lemons and grapefruit on the nose.. and dare I say a slight petrol funk in the background. Vibrant, zingy, mineralic on the palate. Finish is medium, drying and tart, with a gentle puff of smoke. Ok let’s be honest. This is 5yo whisky. It is not going to blow your socks off when comparing with other releases from SB, but still, a delicious one nonetheless.
As close as you can get to drinking new make Springbank without visiting the distillery. This would be perfect as a first dram on a "current day Springbank" lineup. Focused, sharp, mineralic, paraffin, machine oil, sea mist, some flowers, fruity finish. Very good for it's age

I live in Scotland and received my bottle 27 April. It reminds me of a good young cage bottle from the shop in Campbeltown. It is young but definitely worthy of being a Society release.
