Классический медальный Ardbeg: свежий солёно-цитрусовый торф с мёдом, ванилью и лёгкой йодистостью. Опытные ставят ровно 86–92, единодушно хваля баланс дыма и сладости; расхождений почти нет.

В аромате яркая свежесть с яблоками, грушами и цитрусом, морская соль, мёд, ваниль и солёная карамель поверх умеренного торфяного дыма, местами землистого, пыльного, с табаком, минеральностью и лёгкой медицинской, йодистой нотой; со временем раскрывается сладость — попкорн, вафли, мандарин, имбирный пряник. Во вкусе мощная, но собранная подача: торфяной дым и морская соль соседствуют с почти засахаренной фруктовостью (перезрелый ананас, лимоны, апельсины), а также нашатырём, лакрицей, перцем, орехами и золой; отмечают заметное развитие от землистого к фруктовому и сладкому. Послевкусие длинное, тёплое, с дымом, пеплом, дублёными травами и обжаренной лимонной цедрой, слегка подсушивающее.
Оценки очень согласованы: опытные ревьюеры держатся в узком коридоре 86–92, хваля баланс, чистоту солодового спирта и переходный стиль «между классикой и современностью», при этом дым мощный, но не подавляющий. Немногочисленная критика исходит от менее авторитетных авторов: одному дым показался грязным и жгучим, и он предпочёл родственный «Still Young», поставив 83. Явных расхождений между опытными и остальными нет — расхождение лишь в деталях восприятия дыма и сладости, а не в общем высоком вердикте.

Terrific.
| Нос | 90 | Not only the color is bright, but also the nose. Very fresh first impression. Apples and pears, sea salt, bacon in the background sizzling on a charcoal fire. Grated lime zest, the juice of a pineapple. |
| Вкус | 91 | He really gets going when he arrives and delivers a 5-course meal in one fell swoop. There is peat smoke and sea salt, but also very sweet, almost candied fruit. Overripe pineapple, lemons, oranges and light apples. |
| Финиш | 90 | In the long finish, wafts of smoke drift through, dried herbs and roasted lemon peel cover the tongue. |
Had this on in a line-up with the Very Young, Still Young and Almost There, but although the others are already very good whisky's, this stood out by far, actually just a beautiful one! Give it some time, and it keeps on developing, from earthy to more fruity and later on very sweet, all with a nice smoky base underneath. Very pleasant experience.

This one came out when I started drinking single malts and instantly brings me back there when I open it. Great distinct quality.

The smoke strong, fiery, dirty. A nice, slightly sweet note of wood in the background. Full of spices, a whole bouquet full of flowers. Very strong, snappy in the mouth. The full breadth of flavors, just like in the nose. The smoke recedes. The barrel notes unfold. I almost have the impression that his "Still Young" was the best. But that shouldn't affect the other two ...

T: Certainly a more contemporary coastal style with beautiful underlying barley spirit. Top notes talk of a fizzy sweetness, a sugary sweetness, salty sizzle-y lemons and oysters. F: Sweet fresh and salty, the abv strength carrying this one far and wide. Easily the smokiest of the lot yet it’s no smoke bomb compared to uber-smoke-driven contemporary malts from in the last decade. Super form. C: One that stylistically treads the line between then & now. Right up there with the stalwart standard 10yo.

I can see why Ardbeg has so many followers. This Renaissance stuff is brilliant!
Ashy-peaty, menthol, lemon-vegetable. 22.5 The taste is round, salty-sweet, spicy. 22 The aftertaste is pleasantly warming. 21.5 Balance 22
