Lovely profile but pretty one-dimensional. It lacks the typical touch of sulphur that can be found in most sherried Bunnas, but I can't say I miss it.

What a grand Bunna! Reminds me a bit of the 24 Year Old Bunnahabhain 1988 from Berry Bros & Rudd, which I found equally wonderful. Thanks, Wim!

Intensely sherried Bunna can be pretty good. And in this case it is very good.

Fantastic Wemyss, full bodied, varied, deep and hearty, the name promises quite a bit, but it is even more waiting for you.

One of those very sherry-heavy, intense, clean malts with lots of bitter oak and furniture polish alongside the lovely sherry fruit notes. This flavor profile always hits my taste exactly. If you are sensitive to noticeably bitter oak, you should stay away from it. I like it just like that!

As the colour suggests, a sherry bomb; the name says it all: beautiful, intense fruity notes of cherries (rarely had so distinctive); plus plums; raisins; fine old oak with notes of furniture polish; espresso; dark chocolate; spicy notes; liquorice |

(Update Jan. 22: A Wemyss with 56 percent is rare anyway. But I rarely have such a fine, intense and clean sherry malt in my glass. A dream of dark chocolate and cherries, intensity and delicate, clean aromas. Takes time and makes then open. Becomes more fruity and voluminous, fuller and is one of the best sherry malts that I know and have had in the glass three times now) Blue blind glass and also tried in the blender glass. You can just smell this whisky for a super long time and play with water or another glass with this variety of aromas. That's really fun.

In the beginning, of course, still very compact, but you can already smell a powerful intensity. After 30 minutes, the compactness dissolves and primarily there is - of course - a maraschino cherry in rum. This whisky is very mature and round. Rarely had such a beautiful sherry note that is not just clumsily sweet or spicy. In the back there must be a very light Islay sea breeze. Leather is also there, but where are the 56%? The alcohol was super integrated. With water comes more fruitiness and sweetness and I thought that wasn't good for him, but then the cherry note disappears after at least 45 minutes and you are rewarded with a spicy-woody sherry note. |

Here you notice the 56% a little more, but then immediately the cherry-rum note again. Water is also great for him here - not that he needs it, but the spicy, old-ripe sherry cask note then comes to the fore again. I find it even better with water, softer and creamier. |

Remains dry and sherry-woody on the palate for a long time, just as you would expect from old malts of this type. The mouthfeel is super intense and dark without being over the top. The finish is very, very long. |

I have nothing to add to the previous reviews. A truly fantastic and intense dram. My only surprise is that only 426 bottles came out of the butt (was it leaking?) and that the whisky still has 56% ABV after 26 years.

apart from the almost legendary hype about this bottling and the almost hypnotic naming (which may well hit the mark) a really horny sherried Bunna with a lot of power and intensity.

Nice malt !!! Neat heavy sherry influences ... But I do not really like this malt! In the finish too much oak and too many annoying Bitternoten.

Very nice malt, which definitely carries his name and does not completely extinguish his Brennereicharakter.

This is a real powerhouse. Enormous dark fruit notes (cherries fit, rum raisins), but also a lot of bitter oak. Dark chocolate. Reminds me of rhum agricole. On the palate, strange twists and turns occur: a little sweet, a little spicy (pepper), then it becomes bitter. Funky. Overall, it's too heavy and bitter for a whole bottle for me.

It's a great whisky, but a bit one-dimensional - it seems like they bottled the cask just a bit too late. Tasted 6/12/2015 in a line-up with different Wemyss bottlings.

Brandy cherries, very esterig, At the beginning freshly poured: very disturbing and clear solvents like UHU - but this disappears after about 15 minutes then opens full-bodied strong sherry, green tea and jasmine tea, a lot of tannins |

A very fine sherry cask, clean and rich, having been opened for a long time, so the tannins are not prominent. Sweetness is the dominant note, with rich black fruits such as black cherry and brown plum. The woody aromas are restrained, with a hint of chocolate and leather. The alcohol is compressed to a point where it is almost imperceptible. While there are no major surprises, the wine is very well balanced. |

Blinded by the aroma, I took a big sip and could really feel the alcohol kicking in. It's quite potent. The overall flavor, while sweet, is medium-fatty and a bit dry. The main base notes are consistent with the aroma: dark cherry jam and chocolate sauce. The mid-palate begins to show a lot of woody spices like cloves, star anise, and camphor. It's a nice change of pace, which is great. |

Long and dry, the first half is consistent with the main note, the second half shows tobacco and lit cedar wood strips, and the finish has coffee, cocoa and a little camphor. |

Now this is a really good sherry bomb and yes you can spell BOMB in capitals, without exaggerating. Non peated sherried cask strength Bunnahabhain and at a respectable age: 26yo! This is very comparable with GlenDronach single cask bottlings and it has the typical Bunnahabhain 'banana DNA' I recognise in every Bunna, and I like that. Sweeter than GD but not too sweet, I'm really enjoying this! About €160 euro. Tasting notes Wemyss:Bunnahabhain 1988 26y 56,2° ‘Kirsch Gâteau’ 442 bottles. Cask Strength, non peated, non chill filterd, no additional colouring, sherry butt. Colour: Rich Mahogany Nose: Rum and raisin fruitcake soaked in cherry kirsch served with a ginger wine toddy. Mouth: liqueur soaked cherries with dark chocolate flaked with sea salt. Sticky gingerbread spread with molasses syrup. Finish: Warming cinnamon and star anise coat the palate.
