(Short notes during the Springbank online tasting on January 29, 2026) (4y Bourbon, 6y Fino Cask) Pleasantly gritty and pungent on the nose, with subtle sherry cask aromas, fitting for Fino, which generally isn't overly intense. It tastes dry, with notes of red currants and a touch of smoke that becomes more pronounced after a sip. Makes a very good first impression. It starts on the tongue with Kinder em-eukal (cherry), red currants, strawberries, not too dry. It gives me the impression that the Springbank character and Fino Casks harmonize quite well together. 89/88/88 = 88/100

This is a good example of why people make a fuss over Springbank - a deceptively easy to drink dram as it's so well put together, I think you'd only realise how much you've had when you try and stand only to fall over. Well worth the original rrp - not sure I'd pay what some people are trying to charge.

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2026/01/13/bwc-2025-springbank/ N: Coconut, dried fruits,… the fino shows immediately which is most welcomed at this moment in time, working rather well in context/position in our flight on the night. A ‘sherrsky’, it’s a fino bomb, so no rubbery ‘boing’ issues. T: Fizzy [aided by 55% abv], this has a maturity to it beyond its stated years [say. more 15-16]. Whilst the sherry continues to lead, it does so without harassment. Indeed, there’s an equal determination from grape and grain. F: Spotting the seams isn’t easy, a meeting of minds continuing to the tape. C: Loud and proud, this teeters on the edge and comes through, for some, but could be divisive given all the fino.

Excellent Springbank has already bottled some nice things in their Sherry Wood range. I previously tasted the Palo Cortado and the Madeira expressions. Today, the Fino Cask Matured is in the glass. This Springbank matured for the first 4 years in refill bourbon and then another 6 years in Fresh Fino casks. Nice color, indeed. The nose opens with some tropical fruits like peach, pineapple, papaya, and blood orange, but is soon complemented by notes of snuff and decaying wood, roasted almonds, and something that reminds me of the earthen floor in a warehouse. The whole thing is wrapped in a burlap sack. Excellent nose. On the tongue, it is all a bit darker, if you know what I mean. Also pleasantly spicy with white pepper and calamari, while suddenly revealing a surprising saltiness. Even a hint of red fruit (raspberries and pomegranate). A drop of honey and a drop of balsamic vinegar. Late caramel comes in to sweeten things up. Excellent, once again. In the medium-long finish, the fruit returns in full glory, with peach and papaya leading the way, followed by candied orange peel. The spiciness lingers pleasantly and keeps your mouth warm. You'd become a Springbank fan for less. Thank you, Manny!
Plenty of room for Springbank's DNA to shine.
Well, I don't think price should play a role in the evaluation. Imagine trying the dram blind. I think it's alright, but nothing more. A bit of Campbeltown funk. But nothing that really excites me. 71-80 – Fine, like to drink by time

A generous sherry, with notes of redcurrant, marzipan, and raspberry jelly. Brown sugar, maple syrup, and melting chocolate. Vibrant citrus aromas: blood oranges, grapefruit, warm beeswax, heather honey, and some herbaceous notes of reeds and bushes. Iodine adds a lovely breadth. A touch of smoky peat. On the palate, it's very oily, spicy, with egg yolk, greengage plums, vanilla, varnished wood, lacquer, clove, and cumin. The finish is long and deep, waxy, with macerated raisins, Aosta ham, hawthorn, dark tobacco, charcoal, black earth, and caramel. This time, I must say, this one is clearly weaker than its two predecessors in terms of the palate. I compared them. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2026/07/springbank-2015-fino-cask-matured-10-yo.html

Interesting nose. Slightly sherry-fruity. Light funk. Unique... delicious. Then, in the mouth, a delicious, woody, leathery sensation. Thankfully, not a typical modern wet cask whisky. Unfortunately, a bit too much alcohol. Is that youth/old age? In direct comparison to the Springbank 12 (100% ex-bourbon), it's noticeably more alcoholic and harsher. My tasting order was Springbank 12 -> Springbank 10 Fino. This makes the ABV much better integrated in the 12-year-old than in the 10-year-old. The sherry fruit notes and the leathery character also remain in the taste. Light smoke. On the dry side. Lingers in the mouth for a very long time. This one can also handle water. Why do many modern young whiskies of a similar age have 60%+ ABV, but these two don't? I find that pleasing... This is nitpicking. I've had sherry whiskies that were 5-19 years older that were harsher (in terms of alcohol) and therefore more unpleasant. Delicious, and for me, more delicious than many sherry smokers. Even tastier than many "modern" sherry whiskies. Here too... points follow... It won't be my absolute favorite. The high prices they're asking make the whisky less than appealing.

S 7 Slightly lossing the point here, the cask seems to dominates the SB distillate. The final product is nice and well-rounded, but I'm looking for a bit more SB characters here. Is it better than the regular ten? I'd say it's just different directions. After all, this series is to showcase Sherry cask finishes on SB distillate.

Creamy nosefeel, immediately the impression of dry Sherry. Figs, sultanas, prunes. A whiff of menthol, vanilla, and warm sour beer acidity. Now in the middle, more dried red fruits - cranberries, cherries, raspberries. Raw cashews. The base is a little more syrupy, with a whiff of metallic note. Peat is nowhere to be found. A whiff of coastal breeze with honey as it breathes, getting increasingly salty until a whiff of earthy peat emerged. |

A good 10-year-old Springbank, nothing more and nothing less. Not unlike its two predecessors in the series. Of the three, I liked the Palo Cortado best. I haven't tried the PX yet. This one has an intense mineral, almost metallic note that bothers me. I've experienced something similar with some Glen Scotias. Certainly not something you'd call a flaw, just not my cup of tea. Even at the issue price, it's not a buy for me.

Starts as a 88 and gets slightly worse with time... Drink it fast. Sweet, slight chemical peat and creamy taste.
It's very distinctive; the Fino cask imparts a particularly prominent slightly acidic and dry sensation, which, combined with Genting's classic minerality and subtle smokiness, makes for a clean, robust, and not-too-sweet drink. Those who enjoy Genting casks should definitely give it a try!

Tasting note online on 4 February 2026 on my blog on www.longpouramour.com My conclusion: "A very impressive dram, with a very sweet side that is elevated by the more darker notes, like caramel and chocolate. It works well together. Fino is not the easiest cask to survive, but Springbank was up to the task. This taste like a whisky that could have been distilled in the 1960s or 1970s."

Bright, wine-driven freshness replaces typical sherry sweetness, resulting in a refined, well-polished, and unusually elegant Springbank. It may lack what some consider “classic Springbank funk,” but for those who enjoy dry, acidic, and cider-like profiles, this is a deeply satisfying experience.

Alcohol prickle is minimal for the ABV, and the volume is impressive for a 10-year-old. Bright white peach and honeydew melon lead, accompanied by a lively, positive acidity and a distinctly yeasty, sourdough-like aroma. Floral notes reminiscent of pink blossoms, wet moss, gentle sweetness like cotton candy, and soft nutty tones all appear naturally balanced, with nothing feeling excessive. Lightly brewed black tea, vanilla, and coconut appear subtly in the background. There is a faint metallic hint, like holding a bare iron bar, a fleeting touch of smoked salmon–level smokiness, and a light layer of spearmint. Among all Springbanks I’ve tried, this feels the least funky, the most polished, and one of the most enjoyable nosing experiences. |

Medium-bodied, very waxy, with fine, tingling texture. Sharp acidity reminiscent of quince, lime, and Chardonnay strikes first. This is followed by clove, licorice, and balloon flower root—bitter-herbal elements with gentle underlying sweetness—supported by a pinch of refined salt, chimney-soot smokiness, and hints of sourdough bread. As it coats the palate, quince, white wine acidity, clove, and smoke persist, joined by subtle licorice sweetness, light black tea, faint metallic notes, and a touch of iodine. Overall sweetness is low and the profile is distinctly dry, yet the structure never feels lacking thanks to the firm, positive acidity and restrained herbal bitterness. A rare example of a dry whisky that feels complete, engaging, and highly refined. |

Quite interesting here. The usual farmy and lightly industrial Springbank character is leaning here more on a herbal direction with a more burnt type of smoke. Despite the fino casks, I sense less sweetness, while still getting unripe red fruit sourness and juiciness. Quite alcoholic neat, needs water and more time, which brings out more farmy notes, more balance, more fragrant oils (wood and barley), more leathery complexity, more burnt forest notes. I like it, but it is indeed a bit rough. |

Springbank proves its greatness by means of their finishes IMO, especially considering you are dealing with a young whisky, something consistently unparalleled in modern whisky, as far as my experience goes. Long, balanced, aromatic, harmonizing everything from above in a very articulate manner: sweet smoke, toasted barley, honeyed herbs, raisins from the sherry casks, very engaging wood flavors. The warm smoke lasts longer and gets more bitter and drier as time goes by, but never dominating the finish or annoying the tongue. Great finale. |

Compared to all other 10y sherry bottlings this would be my Nr2 bottling behind Palo Cortado. The Fino Cask is giving a very interesting almost refreshing character to Springbank. Its definetely worth its money
Very balanced with fino characteristics, not every day you see a fruity sherry springbank
A surprisingly dark whisky for a Fino cask, likely more heavily toasted. Aromas of vanilla, pears, plums, ash, tobacco, a hint of pickle, and honeycomb. The taste is very tart and sharp, with plenty of cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and liqueur. The finish is tobacco, light peat, green tea, toffee, nettle, angelica, and a slight saltiness. The alcohol is strongly noticeable.
