https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2022/10/17/feis-ile-2022-ardbeg/ Whilst in the aforementioned queue, punk-attired staff pour this year’s festival release, Ardcore! ‘No doubt by the time these notes come out, Feis Ile will be a distant memory‘, I wrote at the time [not far off]. For what it’s worth, here’s my brief take on the two [generous] drams I had on the day. C: Perhaps [h]ardcore more in name than nature, we’ve a quality-assured, straightforward, clean wash/beer distillate-driven release that points to a young spirit. As is so often the case, the official 10yo reigns supreme.

Although it is once again a NAS bottling from Ardbeg, this bottling has no bitter notes compared to the Commité bottling, but a nice sweetness.

Used a mash containing 25% “Black Malt Barley” – heavily roasted barley grains – before aging in primarily first-fill American oak. Described as tasting like ‘biting on a spiky ball’.

COLOR: White wine - if you know that you are drinking a special bottling here the result is very disappointing - behind the Perpetuum and behind the Ardbeg TEN - the standard bottling for €45 has more to offer than this Special edition. Therefore the issue price is around €140 unfortunately it's really a joke
...a good malt!!! However, you shouldn't take the price into account and you shouldn't know that the TEN definitely offers more! Of Ardbeg's annual special bottlings, this is one of the weakest! [Color:] = White wine!
Color: White Wine Simple nose but I like the taste and finish.

Light white wine. Not just visually in the glass. Also very present on the nose. Acidic with a light smoke. He seems cold. Strong citrus aromas. Extremely young on the tongue. The smoke in the nose was able to hide that a bit. Anise? Yes, I have. Dark chocolate? No not true. For me, this is not chocolate bitterness, but a metallic bitter note. Literally bites on the tongue. In addition cold cigarette ashes. (H)Ardcore is that, yes. Especially in taste. But this will not be my favorite Ardbeg bottling.
We are going deep into Whisky Lake 2.0 today, maybe all the way to the bottom in more than one way, so I best put on my atmospheric diving suit. The exact depth is 15 Ardbeg limited releases in one go, with a current 10yo (83 pts.) as the benchmark. Yes, I have written my last will and testament. The lineup from the newest to the oldest bottling is: Smokiverse (81), Spectacular (82), Heavy Vapours (77), Ardcore (76), Scorch (83), Blaaaack (81), Drum (79), Grooves (80), Kelpie (83), Dark Cove (84), Perpetuum (80), Auriverdes (83), Ardbog (87), Galileo (85), Alligator (88). Compared to my previous scores for the bottles I've already tasted, only Auriverdes felt a bit better this time than the first time I tried it many, many years ago. Unsurprisingly, both myself and the tasting panel voted Alligator, Ardbog, and Galileo as the best three. For me the bottom of the barrel was Ardcore with its offensive blandness and youth, but the whole tasting panel voted it the 2nd worst in the lineup, disliking Heavy Vapours even more. Thanks for the tasting, Maija & Pete!
Disappointment. Not worth half the money they ask.

It pulsates seriously with salty notes and on bitter orange. Vanilla also appears, quickly joined by a more meaty flavor, where the dried meat takes over with the peat. The finish, extremely long, will be strongly bitter making this experience rather unpleasant.

I'm a bit disappointed when I taste it for the first time: it tastes too young for me, almost a bit cheesy... of course, the Ardbeg smoke is there, also some bacon and grilled banana, but overall I find it quite characterless, soft-washed and yes, unfortunately boring. I'm missing that certain punch, the independent note, I don't really know where he can and would like to stand out from the standard range (An Oa, 10s) for €125. He's even worse. For me a clear step backwards with the special bottlings, I really hope that the committee release can save something here.
A very disappointing release from Ardbeg. To me it feels like it was just a cashgrab..... [THIS WHISKY IS COLORED] --> Wbase removed it for some reason. It says caramel colored here in hungary. On the nose it's quite ok but then on the palate it tastes like watered down ardbeg 10 which is even worse (!!!) than the Wee Beastie which I also find hideous. Finish is just not there either. Conclusion: raw, young, not complex, unpleasant. If the price was 1/3 of 150 so 50 EUR it would be an OK NAS whisky. I can't really give more than 78 to this release. Looking forward to my Committee release sample. I've heard mainly good things of that.
A simple and quite fresh smoky whisky. In the aroma, the smoke is rather weaker. And citrus… Not much Ardbeg. Caramel, medicinal smoke and vanilla. At 46% unusually sharp.

In find this quite nice. But nothing special. And for me, its not better than the 10 yo. Very sweet and barley forward, first fill bourbon cask in the mix I guess. Smoky and tarry. The citrus notes are the best thing here. Nothing hardcore in this whisky.
Ardbeg Ardcore, 46%, SMSW. 30ml sample at home, August 2025. Very pale, just a soft yellow tint. Aroma is sandy, flinty, sawdust. Damp mossy pebbles. A very light, muted, minerally vibe. Slight hint of caramelised butter. I associate Ardbeg with a citrus dimension, but it’s not showing up very much here. Body is rounded, moderately oily. Taste is mostly salty supported by equal parts buttery sweetness and smoke. The waxy finish is fairly long, a little astringent. It’s actually more waxy than it is smoky on the whole – the wax builds until the swallow, which gives a short burst of smoke before the waxiness takes over again. Very basic. Perfectly okay, but tastes way cheaper than I imagine it is. The Committee Release was significantly better. 3.4/81
Ardbeg's unique character, exotic spice coming up from behind, not funny because it doesn't have much personality
нос 83 · вкус 84 · финиш 83
For an Ardbeg, a rather light, almost floral nose with some bitter orange and lime oil. In addition, wood aromas from oak to birch. Some smoke only later, but rather aromatic and by no means dominant. And little to no sweet. On the palate there are first velvety wood and raw aromas, then a force of bitter orange jam, followed by fir honey and powdered sugar, red paradise apple glaze. Velvety sweetness in the aftertaste, plus some red fruit puree and light bitter orange zests. So: You have to approach this whisky with an open mind. If you expect something typical of Ardbeg, you will be disappointed. If you expect something you haven't seen before, you get it.

It really needs 3-4 cl and then it becomes more and more present better great mocha taste and delicious green peppers on the sweeter side even something oily he did great Adi Bäggi. In the aftermath, alligator memories come unfortunately only about 40% but still a great drop and worth at least 89 points to me because what he does he does right: Krunschi sweet stable coffee pepper what Ardbeg smoke. And the design of the bottle and outer packaging is always done in a grandiose, really noble way, my outer packaging is next to the colorful LPs on the Nice windowsill. Very similar to this. Release scorch from 2021 only that this 2022 he was bottled with more sweeter younger barrels for this year and thus the mouth is more present and finish not quite as scorch and less aniseed and chili catch... just my thought.

Smells: The stimulating malt sweetness of the new wine, the peat smoke, the iodine, the bacon, blend together with the peat, followed by some lemon peel, very authentic young peat, and the alcohol does not feel very good 25.1/30 Taste: After the slight irritation of honey at the entrance, peat disinfectant smoke, campfire, sea salt, bacon, red bean paste, short fruity dark chocolate, and the bitter taste of burnt rubber, except for the excessive bitter element at the end, the front and middle parts are very good, and the stimulation is suppressed well 25.9/30 Aftertaste: The bitterness of the coffee is accompanied by the smoky minerality, the bitter aftertaste of the citrus and white peat, which is relatively light 25.5/30 Overall: Although the aroma is not as good as expected, the taste really exceeds my expectations except for the bitterness in the back.

I'm a little torn. I'm not really enthusiastic, but I still like it better than the CR version. €125 is being asked for this whisky - too much if I only measure it by its taste. Price aside, the whisky is uncomplicated, easy to drink and also has something special due to the chocolate malt. Certainly something for friends of experimental bottlings. For the daily Ardbeg dose I prefer to use Uigeadail or Corryvreckan in the future. But I like it better than its powerful brother and I won't turn it down in the future, should it be offered to me.

The nose is actually more intense than the nose of the CR bottling. The alcohol is barely present, making the malt less "spicy". This time I also get the promised chocolate notes in the nose and not only in the finish. The smoke is restrained and not quite as typical for Ardbeg, since only minimal citrus comes through. The whisky also looks less green and metallic than the CR version. Despite everything, one notices his youth, of course, but less unpleasantly than his strong brother. |

The alcohol is well integrated. The smoke is also a little more present than on the nose. Here, too, I miss the Ardbeg citrus note, but it is a bit more ashy than in the nose, which again speaks for Ardbeg. The chocolate goes in the bittersweet direction, but is still not too heavy. As in the nose, no sharpness and no "spiky ball". Toffee, charcoal, chocolate - as promised on the label - I can find everything in the taste. The only thing I don't find is anise, which personally doesn't bother me at all. I want to drink whisky and not ouzo. A bit of vanilla, a little spice on tap and some salted caramel. All in all very simple and uncomplicated, but also harmonious and easy to drink. |

The finish is rather short. The smoke holds back and lets the chocolate take precedence. While this is not overly dominant, it is the note that is most present. A slight sweetness comes along, as well as a little ashyness and then it's gone. |
Worst whisky ever. Why do you make such releases for this price? Shame
Very light in color, young whisky and in bourbon casks does not give a good effect. Somewhat typical Ardbeg with clear smokiness but not much more. The nose better than the taste. Not a favourite, Ardbeg still needs to prove things to me
Unfortunately, this year's Arbegday is not convincing. I'm missing the typical Ardbeg taste or smell with the Ardcore!? I don't think the price is justified. It's a shame because I'm already a fan of Ardbeg! But the market sets the prices!! Like everywhere.
нос 84 · вкус 82 · финиш 81
too young, unbalanced, tastes metallic, bad PLV, prefer 2x Uigeadail for the price, you get a lot more from that!
Just ridiculous, for a third of the price you get a very solid and tasty Ardbeg 10. But hey, as long as inferior malts with appropriate marketing sell for a lot of money, it will probably continue like this... what does quality mean.
Despite it's misleading name, the single most boring and mild Ardbeg I've ever had.

Ard-What? It is a young whisky, rather simple, all in all quite anonymous. The effort of trying to use a toasted malt is appreciable, but I wouldn't say it's a head-turning difference. One dram may be enough. Next

Tastes very, very young. Worst release in the last 20 years. So that's what you get when you're forced to put a bottle on the market every year. The anise note is really annoying.
What can I say? It's like so many rebellious youngsters these days. They take the money out of your pocket and make a quick exit. Ardbeg should urgently put more emphasis on quality again. Ardcore doesn't stand out a bit from the core range.
I love my Ardbeg. This may be my least favorite so far, and I can certainly see why it's one of the least sought after releases. Nose is fine, if light for an Ardbeg, and I get burnt coffee, dark chocolate and hemp on the palate, but the finish is what really kills me. Bitter bitter bitter. Was interesting to taste once but not again. Curious to see if the Committee release is any better.
