Interesting profile indeed, kind of sweet smoky fruity

Here, too, as with the other Taliskers with new features, I notice the following trend: Talisker recently seems to (want to) be more similar in profile to the Islay bottlings. Overall, a solid and easy-drinking bottling, but the Talisker character is lost and there is very little port influence to be felt. Conclusion: An easy-to-drink and tasty bottling. However, not necessarily Talisker-typical and the port influence is also maximally limited.

A solid bottling that fortunately hasn't lost any of its quality since the design change. I wish the Port Ruighe could mature for a few more years, around 10 years like the Distillers Edition, then it would be a regular at my house.

Well… how old were the port barrels?

For me personally no better than the 10 or the Skye. But if you want to add a touch of sweetness to the recognizable black pepper of talisker…. This is your way to go.
compared to the 2018 version: less sweetness, the berries are also lost a bit, but it has more (barrel) spice and more (Islay peat) smoke... well, it loses a little of its original character. Still good, but in my opinion it doesn't come close to previous versions.

It's not bad, but it lacks any distinctive features. The scent intensity isn't strong. |

There is a tingling sensation in the finish. However, since it is mixed with citrus, it is not overwhelming. The spice and low hangover stand out, but it's not bad. |
A nice combination of peat and sweetness, certainly not bad.

Delicious salty sea air invites you, complemented by a hint of peat and sweetness. The sweetness consists of soft salted caramel, honey and red fruit. There is also a hint of salted meat to be recognized, but it is all the way in the background. |

Nice full taste, here the sea air comes pleasantly to you together with sticky toffee and burnt sugar. You also have more peat, not much but enough, a firm pepper and again the salted meat. |

Medium long, with the peat most prominent. You also have caramel and taste of marinated spare ribs. |
Smell: typical Islay but little phenolic, taste nice port-winey
Very nice finish. I like it. It just doesn't quite convince me when it comes to taste. Something is missing here.

A sweet, nutty, and lightly smoky whisky with great drinkability. Unless one can’t tolerate even a touch of peat, this is unlikely to be polarizing. A well-crafted expression, if gentler than classic Talisker.

Dominant sweet notes come through like semi-dried grapes and maraschino cherry syrup, joined by fleshy red grape. The smoky peat is dialed back, letting marine notes shine—clam broth, laver, dried squid. Fresh pine and a touch of licorice weave through. The structure is solid with no obvious off-notes, though the alcohol prickle feels a bit sharp for the ABV. |

The first impression is sweet coffee candy, nutty roasted peanuts, and umami-rich seasoned salt, which carry well into the mid-palate. Chewy dried squid character lingers, accented by Talisker’s signature pepper kick, though neither spice nor smoke dominate. Mid-palate reveals Concord grape juiciness, clear black tea, and a trace of licorice. Hints of seaweed and dried tobacco leaf pass briefly. Rolled around the palate, roasted peanuts and salt take center stage, with growing black tea presence, joined by semi-dried jujube and a whisper of cinnamon. The whisky doesn’t have great power or persistence once swirled, but it’s clean, drinkable, and free of off-notes. A personal drawback: the reduced peat presence doesn’t quite deliver the Talisker punch one might expect—though craftsmanship remains high. |

For a peated whisky, the finish isn’t especially strong or long, but the flavor composition is clean and well-structured. On the retro-nasal, smoke dominates alongside cassis and coffee candy, balanced with black tea, dried squid, and roasted peanuts. On the palate, umami-rich dried squid leads, supported by date sweetness, peppery spice, peppermint lift, and roasted peanut nuttiness. Toasted barley and faint seaweed hover subtly in the background. |

The Port Ruighe is clearly my new favorite in the Talisker range. Sweet mildness and a hint of port compete with subtle smoky notes and open up a completely new taste experience. Even if, unlike many other lovers, I can rarely taste the countless flavor nuances of a whisky, with the Port Ruighe I at least have an association and the feeling of washing down a bucket of dried fruit with mild sherry while the campfire smoke from the neighbor's garden rises into my nose. Conclusion: Excellently balanced composition that knows how to delight the nose, the palate and the finish.
Slightly winey, lots of dried fruit, berries and raisins in chocolate, a pinch of salt, slightly smoky.
On the nose, stewed fruits, raisins, chocolate, sea salt, cedar and slight smokiness. Palate has some nice sweetness, salted caramel, Christmas spices and port wine. Nice change of pace from Talisker
Love it! Sherry notes (despite it is port cask), salt, sea and smoke, tartness, red fruits. Give me more :)
Unpopular Opinion: I don't think it's any worse than the old one. Maybe even better

Sweeter than other Taliskers. Nice to try once, but not interested in buying a new one.
Fruity, aromatic, and good value for money.
