The Blair Athol 15 from Brühler Whiskyhaus presents itself as a complex and expressive representative with a clear focus on dark aromas and spicy depth. Its character is evident even on the nose. Dark dried fruits, oak spice, and an intense hint of cherry liqueur set the tone. This is accompanied by a slightly damp, cellar-like mustiness, which, combined with dark chocolate, subtle oranges, and a hint of sulfur, creates an almost mysterious atmosphere. The alcohol is noticeable, but not unpleasant; rather, it adds a certain liveliness to the nose. Nuts and milk coffee round out the bouquet with warm, inviting notes. On the palate, the whisky is creamy to slightly oily, with a sweet opening reminiscent of dark fruits. The aromas quickly develop into a spicy, herbal direction—accompanied by well-integrated oak and caramel. The reappearance of the cherry liqueur is particularly exciting, lending the taste a playful, almost liqueur-like depth. The alcohol is now much better integrated than on the nose and contributes to the structure without being overpowering. A hint of licorice adds complexity. The finish is medium-length, with spice and herbs remaining prominent. Oak spice and a slight dryness are well accompanied by a restrained fruit sweetness, lending the finish a beautiful balance and consistently bringing the dark underlying structure of the whisky to fruity completion. Overall, a multi-layered, distinctive dram that impresses with powerful oak, dark fruit aromas, and herbal depth.
