A great whisky indeed - it's just a bit too sweet and smooth for my taste - thus is probably not my favorite but still great
A pleasant sweet nose with wisps of smoke and wood also a nice sweet palate but it is a little thin and watery in my view. Some nice spice notes emerge that liven things up and the balance is decent as are the flavours, at a higher strength the profile would shine, perhaps 48-50% is needed. At this price it is very poor value, this is nothing special, but it is a nice sipping whisky for sure,

The Hibiki 17 has long been one of my favorites, very round, lovely, fruity. Yesterday I had the 21 for the first time - and yes, it leaves the 17er in the shade, is much stronger, more intense, even if the flavor is the same. You can tell the age. He is world class!

N: Barley, honey malt - rather thick and malty. Sherried sultanas, Big vanilla and caramel bourbon notes. Fruity and slightly medicinal but favours more the dessert fruits. T: Citrus, honey malt, very Speyside like. Thick arrival, bitter/sweet, becoming thicker with the addition of subtle wood spices and pepper wood. becoming fresher before… F: …vanilla cream develops but savoury sweet [cheesy] with pudding fruits with aniseed and fennel freshness C: Very nice indeed. very Speyside like, reminding me of Tamdhu 10. Very broad mouthful and a fine balance but a little boring and ….Scottish!? Scores a B
N- Sticky honey with floral and vanilla custard. Ultra pleasant and soothing, but lack of identity, a dram everyone would enjoy, but not remembering it the day after. P- Instant tips of sweet on a seasonal wood, tabacco, dry with alluring pear drops. Some mints. F- Medium-long, broad with finesse and not aggressive, balance with peppery emerge. Nice blend but austere. Would be excellent at her actual value, which is 4 times lesser than what she worth now. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

So far probably. One of the 1-3 best Japanese I ever had, wow!

Hibiki 21 - It was one of my dreams several years ago to have it in my glass and how exceptional it would be when Japanese whiskies were exploding (price-wise). Tonight is the night so to say! Nose: Very fruity and balanced maybe too balanced but ok it is a blend so maybe to be expected. Give it some time in the glass as the fruit-bomb develops from minute to minute. Apricots, lychees, mango, oranges, papaya very exotiv fruit basked. So let's see what it brings on the palate: Very round, very smooth simply very nice. When pouring the dram in the glass 30 minutes ago I had a first little sip and was very disappointed. Now 30 minutes later it really shows its full variety. The fruit basket is as in the nose maybe even some additonal fruits like raspberries or a hint of cinnamon. The finish is a bit short but ok it is a 43% blend so you could have expected it. All in all a great ride through the fruit jungle which I truly did not wanna miss. Of course when looking at today's money you need to invest for a bottle like this definitely invest it in some 1970s independent Speysiders. They are much more complex and even cheaper but if you find the opportunity to drink a dram of this great Hibiki 21 you definitly should give it a try. 89/100
Very light grainy smoke, dust, gravel, notes of braised caramel, dried fruits, compote, cherry clafoutis, fig jam, oranges and cranberries. Apricot skin, lemon zest, vanilla pod, exotic wood, cinnamon, saffron, sandalwood. On the palate, dark honey, dates and hazelnuts, red plum, black tea, chocolate fondant, heather earth, spices that take time to settle. Long, powerful finish, roast beef slices, charcoal crumbs, crème brûlée, red fruits, currants, blood and floral hues. Roasted wheat. It's indeed an excellent product, perfectly balanced, quite complex and deep. On the palate, it's still a little light, but the rest is very interesting. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2025/09/hibiki-21-yo.html

beautiful blend without mistakes but almost too round, has little character. Very sweet, lots of bright fruits, great mouthfeel. In a direct comparison at the Finest Spirits 2018 whiskey fair against a Ben Nevis 22 Oloroso Cask, he loses significantly and the Ben Nevis does not cost 200 euros. Price is totally excessive. 22/22/21/10

this version, bottled in 2011, is by far the best HIBIKI 21. Earlier batches are missing those intense and delicious ripe cherries and were less rich. Truly the Big Brother of the HIBIKI 17 (2011). Highly recommended! Sadly, this whisky is hard to get. Sold out in Europe and China. Bought my bottles at Shanghai for around EUR 130. My rating: 95 points
Well done. It is classy and elegant but I still expected a little more
Don’t know why people like it so much. Very plain one at even half of its price.
Very nice nose, dry mouth and inconsistent

Sweet fruits, dates, old leather, chocolate, christmas cake, furniture polish, coffee, vanilla, oak cask, mown hay, cream and apples notes on nose. Chocolate, spices, dried fruits, oak cask, light creosote, apples notes on palate. Spices, vanilla, oak cask, apples, green tea, chocolate notes on long finish.
an extra-sweet Hakushu 12.. an extra-fruity Highland Park 18 with smoke dialed down to a minimum.. plus a very nice savoury note at the end, that’s like biting on a piece of licorice.. the long, reverberating, spicy finish is the best part of this show!
I taste this malt during my trip to Japan in September 2019, at Cask Strength in Tokyo. Maybe I was not very fit, but I thought better, given the aging of 21 years and the great fame of this whiskey, I expected more sensations, more emotions, instead my Harmony Master's Select holds up well the comparison.

Acetone is strong at first, so you need airing Thick vanilla, sweet, no uncomfortable flavour, nuts The price standards are not good these days

Complex nose, stewed fruit, light sherry, drier than expected, very spicy and minty.
Had this Whisky on the Whiskyschiff in Luzern. The nose was great, taste and finish was good but a bit weaker compared with the 17 year old Hibiki

Gouted at the end of the session, too dense to be fully appreciated with taste buds very tired ... it makes you want to come back. Monstrously accurate, floral and over-fruity!

Honeycomb honey with a light sweet scent It was very watery and not impressive.

A dram very pleasant to drink, multi-faceted. A first level of tasting easy and pleasant, but when you dig, it is complex and full of surprises, all without a real flaw!

If you can buy it for around 3000 RMB, that's an absolute steal! It's hard to imagine that a low-alcohol blend could taste so good, especially the aroma, which is absolutely amazing.

WWA's Best Blended Whisky 2010,2011,2013!

My rating concerns the whisky back in 2013, when a bottle costed less than 300€. Fantastic notes, round and exotic. But seeing a bottle around 1k€ nowadays is not worth the money for sure.
Smooth, easy to drink and one the best Hibiki's out there, love the complexity too
