Молодая тайваньская хересная бомба: насыщенный сладко-пряный херес с тёмными фруктами, шоколадом и дубом. Опытные ценят как добротный ежедневный образец, но единодушно отмечают недостаток зрелости и сложности и завышенную цену; купажу без указания возраста предпочитают однобочечные Solist.

В аромате доминирует чистый сладкий херес с тёмными и красными фруктами (слива, вишня, изюм, инжир), к которым добавляются ваниль, миндаль и марципан, какао и молочный шоколад, орехи, пряности и рождественские специи вроде имбирного пряника; часть дегустаторов ловит серные, резиновые оттенки и балсамический уксус. Вкус плотный и маслянистый для 46%, поначалу сладкий на сливе и тёмных ягодах, но быстро переходит в сухость с мощным, местами почти подавляющим дубом, пряностями и лёгкой горечью; послевкусие среднее, сухое, на пряном дубе, какао, лакрице и финиках. Хвалят чистоту, округлость, питкость и удачную работу с бочкой при быстром созревании в жарком климате. Основная и почти сквозная претензия — молодость спирта: новосделанный характер проступает наружу, не хватает глубины и сложности, свойственной дольше выдержанным шотландским хересным бочкам, а цена для купажа без указания возраста завышена. Разброс оценок велик и определяется скорее ожиданиями, чем профилем: опытные ставят преимущественно 84–88, видя добротный, надёжный ежедневный образец, который, однако, уступает однобочечным Solist, и почти хором советуют брать именно их; резко выпадают два опытных вердикта (78–79), где автор считает, что херес маскирует сам спирт и сравнивает напиток с арманьяком. Среди менее авторитетных оценки схожи (в основном 83–89), но встречаются и провалы (46, 74) из-за доминирующей горечи. В целом согласие высокое: сильный, но простоватый и незрелый хересный виски.

My first cavalan and I did not know what to expect. But even the aroma is wonderful, pure sherry, spicy, almost reminiscent of mulled wine. Then there are the gingerbread spices, the ideal Christmas whisky. Very good!

N: Oh dear, back to mass market mulch after some fab Springbank’s and single cask TBWC bottlings. This really sticks out after higher calibre malts - and no Solist cask for Brighton! Festering, over-ripe tomatoes is the sherry character on the nose. T: So where's the whisky? F: Ok, it's a split between sherry and Armagnac with some ‘Dalmorisation’ on the finish C: Classic case of sherry disguising the spirit and this NAS [3yo] goes for an astonishing £79!! [Jun ’16]. What a gulf between these vattings and the [Solist] single casks. Scores a D+

N- Intense, rich and complex. Toasted bread, plum and cherry liqueur. Red apple with whiff of burnt vanilla. Water drawn out more sweetness, marzipan. P- Very dry, chewy and winery. Persistent oaky to the edge of overpowering. Water down to enhance the spices and sweetness emerge. F- Medium long with persistent dryness and spicy oak. Bitter mouthfeel, lack finesse and unpleasant. Caramel sweet with water. Probably one to fit well with the rock. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

No off notes whatseover. Very well-rounded and accomplished, but also pretty acidic and sherry-dominated.

Joa, so the hypen is not really, because overlooked sherryliebhaber but some cheap notes in it, anyway, who wants to have something extremely herrherrietes access.

Powerful sherry whisky, which thanks to its somewhat brittle dryness certainly pleases and thus stands in clear contrast to the usually lovely sweet Sherryfassreifungen. I like it.

Wonderful nose. Very fruity - especially dark fruits ... dominated by sweet plum notes determine the "picture". Light beeswax ... along with Mon Chérie-Marzipan. On the palate then surprisingly rather tingling. And dry. Really very "sherry". Great whisky for friends of sherry-flavored whiskys. Almost a tad too "drinkable". He is extremely dignified - you just sucked away like that ...

On the nose, sherry, vanilla, almond too. On the palate, candied orange and red fruits, it looks like a blend of Hibiki blend, then moistened and dried woody, a little bit of tar or liquorice! Return of vanilla and cocoa! In the finish, same long aromas on the vanilla sprig, the cocoa again and the sherried fruits! A very good dram, very worked reminiscent of a long maturation!

Nice standard bottling in which the youth does not play a role. Good barrel management and turbo-maturing at high temperatures can do amazing things. Less intense than the solo single cask bottlings, but at least you can be sure that the quality will be good in the long term. I've had bad experiences with the soloists, who are really very different from each other (which is no wonder with individual barrels).
Нос 87 Nice modern looking sherry nose. The alcohol stings quite a bit though. Very intensive. Cocktail cherry, pickled plum, oak spice, sweet Danish blueberry jam, vanilla, and a slight sourness with increasing warmth. Invites you to linger.
Вкус 87 Nice and sticky and oily, slightly dry and stimulates saliva. Alcohol well integrated in the mouth. The youth is hardly noticeable. Strong oak, slightly bitter, tingling spice, some cardboard and some grapefruit.
Финиш 88 Medium-long finish. What remains is something that reminds me of Plaume in Madeira with marzipan and dark chocolate. Enjoyable!

A surprise. Positive. So far I only knew the tasty and light gentleman Concertmaster Port and the brute soloists. Here is the (bad) compromise? By far not. On the nose, a clear sherry character on the sweet side, with a hint of sulfur (rubber), which certainly not everyone will like. This note is then no longer perceptible to me on the tongue, at the very front sweet plums and dark berries, then the spices stand out, a lot of oak, plus dark fruits, dark chocolate, espresso. In the finish, the spices disappear again and the finish on dates lasts for a long time. I really like it, with a small deduction in the B grade (nose).

Nutty and spicy aroma with dried fruits, marzipan and vanilla. Strong oak flavors with caramel and raisins. Sweet taste and slightly dry. Chocolate with dried fruits and spices. A long-lasting and fruity finish.

Nose: sweet and very fruity, lots of fruit, from red fruit, strawberries, raspberries, wild strawberries, candied cherries, cherry liqueur, raisins and figs, Haribo cherry jellies, nuts, spices, a touch of caramel and milk chocolate, salty leather and wet tobacco . Taste: exceptionally thick for 46%, very light and pleasant, chocolate and cocoa in the foreground, raisins in chocolate, plum, dried fruit, dark fruit, dry almost bitter jam. Finish: medium long, dark fruit, again plum jam, raisins, dry fruit, cinnamon, cocoa

The warm and gentle kind of Kavalan sherry cask. The next step will be those heavy solist sherry casks. Although I like those more, if their ABV is too high this option is good.

ok, it cannot beat a sherry solist, but let me tell you, as an everyday dram I would prefer this one because it´s so easy going and still of very high quality. 89/100

A nice sherry whisky without big corners and edges. He does not overwhelm anyone and is good to drink. But one notices clearly the too short additive maturation in the barrel. There is then missing somewhere but a bit the complexity, the longer matured Scottish sherry casks often bring with them.

Very good drinkable. Unfortunately more of a sherry with a lot of alcohol than a whisky. Nevertheless, I would probably have a bottle in the cupboard at a lower price ...

For the lover of sherry whisky a really good Allday Dram. Here you have done a lot of things right. Only the complexity, which one knows from longer matured Scots, is missing here of course. Water: three or four drops of water make it even sweeter - definitely try it!

Beautiful composed sherry profile based on a robust new make. Very clean and fresh. One for the summer. Maybe a tad too young as the new make shines through and lacks the complexity of the older siblings of the Solist-range. Already tasted several Kavalan (Solist ex Bourbon, Sherry, Vinho and Fino) and all have been wonderful. I admire it's robust and fruity style, somewhere between Glenfarclas and Macallan. Quite a challenge for Scotland (and Japan).

The color is impressive for a barrel so young ... It is expected to be a very big sherry, but the overactive keg delivers a whisky between them waters, both rich and powerful, with lots of sherry aromas, thick, and at the same time very young and marked by the wood .

The powerful sherry influence seems to be detached from the whisky itself, as if it lacks age. Dried fruits, figs, tropical fruits. The thought of the incompleteness of the product, of its unfinished state, constantly circulates. Overall tasty, but far from ideal

The smell is quite acidic and despite the many red fruits quite "bright" with plenty of wood influence. I like that. The "light" disappears in the mouth almost completely and makes room for ripe sherry influence, the upper aged suggests to Scottish scale. The finish is dominated by the oak. The people of Kavalan know what they are doing and they do it well. A very nice whisky. However, connoisseurs who have their problems with strong oak influence should refrain.

Kavalan Sherry Oak 46%. Consumed Oct 2019. Quite dark. Well, the aroma is all sherry cask. Hard to see anything else. There is that faintest suggestion of sulphur but also dates, raisins. Intense. Good body without being too much. Taste is again dominated by sherry with a woodiness but not too oaky. This is a clean spirit with one dimensional sherry oak taking over. Quite simplistic. There's a tipping point where dominant sherry becomes gloopy, muddled and too dominant over the whisky, and this one has tipped that balance for me. Still, I know there are plenty of people who can't get enough sherry in a whisky. 3.15/75

The usual recipe for success. Full broadside of sherry paired with exotic spice and oak. I'm particularly partial to the nose here. Great example of cask spiciness.

Nose: Cassis, blackberries, raisins and orange peel. Wet tobacco, balsamico, chicken broth, slightly tangy and salty. Hints of menthol and cough drops. With time, earthy notes appear. Rotting leaves in autumn, mushrooms, damp forest floor. A great nose, no single off–note is to be found. Taste: bittersweet with orangepeel, blackberries, raisins and tobacco. Gets then more salty, meaty and umami. The 46%abv make for a creamy and velvety mouthfeel. Even though this is NAS it doesn’t feel young at all. Only the finish is a bit short and makes you want to pour the next dram ;) Comments: Holy sherrybomb Batman – this is great stuff! I was a little hesitant at first because of the lower ABV and price compared to the solists and selection bottlings but this is right up my alley. A modern dark sherry malt that ticks all the boxes. I hope they can continue with this kind of quality. /89

Kavalan released more recently two brand new expressions in order to bridge the gap between their core range and their single cask range called “Solist”. Both new expressions, which go by the name of KAVALAN Ex-Bourbon Cask respectively KAVALAN Ex-Sherry Oak, are produced in bigger batches and between four and six years old when bottled. http://dramlicious.com/worldwide-wednesday-episode-13

Нос 91 Sherryyyyyyyyyyy ... some wood. Heavy, strong nose ... a few spices (clove, anise)
Вкус 90 Sherry ... a seasoning with chocolate notes (bitter chocolate)

The influence of sherry explodes directly on the nose with a lot of nuts and a little dust. Sweet attack, oily texture a little oily, a little dust. Long final. Good sherry but lacks a bit of scale / power and does not have the varnish side of Solist.

Smell: full, dark fruity bouquet, vanilla, rum raisins, cola note, sweet base, nice balance, fine spicy wood, very well integrated alcohol, furniture polish Taste: Licorice note, fine menthol tone, dark fruits again, notes of spices, according to bitter note, dark chocolate, espresso, medium-flavoured. Reverberation, again liquorice-spicy Colour: copper with a reddish core, medium water rim, clear Conclusion: This is easy drinking at a higher level - not a monster of complexity, but very entertaining and almost tasty. And the fact that the bottle was emptied pretty quickly is also a compliment to the contents...

Great everyday go to whisky.  It's a watered down version of the solist so around 8 or 9 years of age.  I would recommend this, certainly at half the price of the single cask version.  I do like the solist but at ~£120GBP is too much money, this is a great compromise certainly if you only end up adding water to the cask strength.

Really a very very good sherry whisky. The nose, in particular, is rather bluffing, and the mouth is at the same time sufficiently greedy and complex to make it a whisky to sip for the simple pleasure, or to analyze more in depth.
