The balance hum, Islay with a fine stiletto - great.
Нос 89 Spicy blooming mud flats on the North Sea, with beach carnations, old mussel shells and washed-up bladderwrack = wonderful maritime touch. This is complemented by high-quality spices: freshly ground cloves, some ground cardamom and "vintage" lemon peel. Old, sun-dried linoleum and sawn old wood replace the smoke (I don't find it in the nose).
Вкус 89 A bit disappointingly thin at first, but a thoroughly intense taste unfolds with the nosing aroma complex plus white pepper, lemon oil and some old-style sewing machine oil. Say mature aromas. :) The most subtle wood/peat smoke accompanies the whole thing, very balanced.
Финиш 88 The finish is LONG! You wouldn't guess given the alcohol content and the age. But it's really amazingly intense and above all perfectly balanced, degraded smoke on the one hand, silky fruity spice on the other. You have to go a long way to get something like this for the price!

EYE/NOSE E150a? Probably yes. Looks good though, the deep amber tone. If you swirl the malt in Glencairn, the stained glass windows, which appear slow, broad and viscous, suggest a full body and thus a good structure and plenty of flavor. Already promising. The nose makes me spontaneously write: 'Bowmore?' Already at first impression pleasantly fresh, clean barrels have been used. The malt is still a little cool and so I don't notice any smoke at first, or only very subdued. It only comes when the malt is lukewarm. So, take your time and enjoy at a nice temperature, the malt will thank you. No lavender. But now, lukewarm, a rather light scent, which is characterized by very soft, warm smoke and a pleasant sweetness. fair? Notes of orange, cotton candy, subtle vanilla, dried fruits such as apricots and light Khudri dates. Then red berries follow and it becomes maritime-salty and even a little earthy. PALATE Not quite as oily on the tongue as the optics had suggested. Nevertheless very pleasant. Always keep in mind that cask strength is not >55% or so, so the malt needs more time in the mouth to develop fully. Sip instead of tilting and enjoy relaxed. Despite drinking strength and chill filtration, I find the malt to be creamy, the biscuit-like, malty sweetness is retained, as is the smoke, which is now gaining in strength. There are the red berries, sweetened blackcurrants and dark blackberries again. A bit of sea salt is also included here. Oak spice creates an exciting counterpoint to the aforementioned aromas. FINISH/CONCLUSION The 43% ABV is also quite powerful in the aftertaste. For comparison, how much alcohol does an original bottled Caol Ila 25 or even an old Bowmore Seadragon actually have? In any case, the Islay Malt leaves nothing to be desired. The finish is pleasantly long due to the smoke components. It becomes earthy-calcareous and spicy again, followed by mentholic freshness. English orange marmalade and a few apricots are reminiscent of the fruit aromas from the nose. No sulfur, no mustiness, no bitterness, no oak board. Everything clean and wonderfully balanced, never brutal. A great Caolmore/BowIla! Really nice malt. From my point of view, you can hardly invest ~70 EUR better in the area of smoky single malts. A tastefully convincing single malt with beautiful sweet aromas in the nose and in the mouth. Ratings of >90 are a bit too high for me. The 30 years don't really come into their own if I hadn't blindly typed on it. For me, the bitterness is a bit annoying in the finish, but it is not too strong. The dark chocolate and the light coffee mainly stick to the palate. I would have liked the smoke to be a bit more pronounced and the alcohol content could have been 45-46%, but that's not a wish concert here! I find it very difficult to find out the distillery of this malt! Whether it's Bowmore, Caol Ila or another Islay distillery, everyone should judge for themselves. Converted, the bottle cost about €65, which is an absolutely great price/performance ratio! On the other hand, if you consider what a single malt of that age from an Islay distillery normally costs.
Нос 88 Slight hint of campfire, but the smoke is very restrained on the nose, but probably also comes from the long maturing period in which the smoke has broken down. I smell a pleasant creamy sweetness of salted caramel, orange and some vanilla.
Вкус 88 Chocolate unfolds in the mouth, a slightly salty sea breeze, toffee, fruit bread and a light smoky note. Storage in oak barrels also tastes good. The 43% are well integrated and would have liked to have been 2-3 percent higher.
Финиш 86 In the finish, the chocolate develops a little darker and overall the sweetness takes a back seat. Coffee taste, some campfire and later also some bitterness stick to the palate.

It doesn't have complexity of an old whisky, smells like Bowmore.

A beautiful old, gracefully matured Islay malt that actually brings everything you could hope for: delicate smoke, a pinch of maritime salt and hints of leather. The alcohol is well integrated, but it never feels "weak in the mouth". Very pleasant to drink, a very classic malt without much experimentation. For the price an absolute NoBrainer, PLV is really great here!
