Quick hit review. We all know peat and sherry monsters, but have you ever tasted a bourbon monster? Well, this is it. Slightly prickly and rather spicy, the nose gravitates towards caramel popcorn, cinnamon rolls and herbal teas. It does not prepare you for what is about to come. The punchy arrival sets your palate on fire, bursting with peppery spices, honey and roasted almonds. Water does little to tame it, it is almost like poking an angry bear. Resinous, oaky and bittersweet flavors migrate into the long aftertaste. You know how the old saying goes: First the man takes the drink, then the drink takes the man - and no matter how hard you hit, it hits back harder. RATING: 3.5/5.0 stars ≙ 84 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE
I've tried Booker's before... it was rock'n'roll then, and it still is. This is not a starter whiskey. Not on anyone's whiskey journey, not on an evening's flight of drams. It's more of a night cap... the last thing you do before you pass out. I think the most suiting nick we came up with was "suicide by bourbon". But for the semi experienced whiskey curious I would say it is a must to try. Some say it will make your chest hair grow, others claim you can use it to remove that chest fuzz. A sample of this will be returned as a sweet revenge to the one that gave me the previous sample, and I know he will love it.

Quite a normal bourbon nose, although there is a hint of high ABV. Cinnamon, vanilla, honey sweet. Dark colour for a 7 YO new oak cask, there must be some charring there. |

The arrival has a nice mouthfeel, but there is a tingling of what is coming. Peppery spice on the level of swallowing a wire brush. Rich, bold, roasted. The strange thing is that water does little to nothing to the spice. Even at a level where the mouthfeel undeniably reaches watery it is still peppery, not as bold but still spicy. Unusually the spice is not in the ABV but in the liquid itself. |

It's long. You can kill the alcohol with water but it still manages to retain a decent flavour. |
what a difference with my first Booker's I ever tasted... "not my cup of tea, perhaps i should learn to appreciate bourbons (as was written in my notebook may 2016)" with only 78 points (WB164958) Part of an American Whisk(e)y tasting by Whiskey4all at Passievoorwhiskey on the 6th of November 2024

This was a sample courtesy of Peatbogger. I must admit I have lost my way with American whiskey, not because I've gone off it, far from it. It's because it's hard to come by now. Yes there are the usual suspects of the supermarkets but I'm far beyond that now so I thank Peatbogger for this trip

Aaahhh!! You know and I remember that Booker's has a high corn percentage in it's mash bill. This will definitely clear your sinuses. Black coffee and tobacco. Old leather and coca cola. Sweet corn and really, really rip banana, when the skin is almost black. With a few drops of water it really knocks it up a notch and the nose is sublime. |

Wow! That's a bourbon punch in the face and I'm getting up off the floor and wanting more. Come On ya Ba$tard have another go. Mad Man's bourbon i heard someone call it. After the brawl we are friends again and it's hugs and kisses. The flavours are strong and intense. Thick mouthfeel with juicy dark fruits and chocolate. With water it is more of a slap. Many will probably prefer that. It's not as flavoursome for me. |

The finish is long, very long and I will probably still taste it in the morning. With water it just turns ordinary. |

Quite OK, yet not a must try.

Quite the modern bourbon nose upfront: furniture polish, corn and starch, baking spices, cinnamon buns, cake icing. |

Sweet but pungent. Too pungent. With water, it's a bit more restrained, also taking off the positive sweet edge. Quite some polished, grain starch, cinnamon rolls, and a dash of pepper and wood. |

Very closed at the beginning, mineral, grain, semolina pudding with oat milk (without butter/cinnamon), a little cherry, spicy notes, honey sweetness takes over, the alcohol is very well integrated, I hardly notice the over 60%. Short finish, becomes a little peppery towards the end, which is not disturbing. In my opinion, water doesn't bring out any other notes either.

It has a strong and direct style, and is very sweet, but those who don't like the taste of paint might not like it.

It's straightforward caramel, chocolate, and wood, but it does have a paint/solvent feel. |

if you like powerful bourbon and haven't tried it over 120proof yet, it would be good to buy a bottle.
