В аромате преобладают мёд, лимонная цедра, дыня и жёлтые фрукты (груша, слива, ананас) на солёно-морском фоне с влажной соломой, сеном и фирменной фермерской «дичинкой» Спрингбанка, плюс ваниль, минеральность (мел) и лёгкий дымок; многие отмечают, что нос не выдаёт юного возраста и открывается лучше со второго захода. Вкус маслянистый, порой сливочный, с медовой сладостью, цитрусом, белым перцем, зелёным яблоком и неожиданно сильным для Спрингбанка торфяным дымом, местами с дубовой горчинкой и морской свежестью; вода приглушает пряность, превращая дым в ноту гриля. Послевкусие тёплое, пряно-дубовое с торфом, но именно здесь возраст выдаёт себя. За дистиллят и техническое исполнение хвалят практически все: чистота, баланс, крепость, хорошо интегрированный спирт, питкость в чистом виде даже при 57,1%. Критика сосредоточена на молодости, коротком и «схлопывающемся» послевкусии, нехватке многогранности во вкусе и на цене. Опытные ревьюеры расходятся не столько в описании профиля, сколько в контексте: часть считает выпуск качественным и приятным сюрпризом, другие — ненужным экспериментом, проигрывающим 10- и 12-летним, а также легендарным 100 Proof 2000-х; отдельные оценки уходят к 82–84 из-за спиртовитости и слабого развития. Actually better than expected, doesn't feel too young, there is even some SB funk - quite nice

Springbank's 'wee beastie' - an unnecessary experiment or a long overdue addition to their core range? On the nose, honeydew melon, lemon peel and persimmon are intertwined with sourdough, marzipan and a touch of ice wine. It's only lightly peated and very clean. Lovely arrival of citrus and tropical fruits, followed by ripe pears, peppery spices and a good amount of peat. An utterly spirit-driven malt without any funk. Sweet pineapple, ash and savory notes linger in the warming finish. It comes down to the quality of their distillate - which is excellent. RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 87 pts → FIRST-CLASS

Slàinte Mhath left half a bottle… and I didn’t argue about it. An amazing result with only 5 years in the making.

Нос	85	A very light Springbank farm funk. I guess it’s in their DNA. Honey sweet, lemon, melon and yellow fruits. With a faint cover of smoke. Water does little to nothing.
Вкус	90	Bolder here, with quite a bit of peppery spice emerging. Sounds silly, but a very clean peat, smoky. More yellow sweet fruit. Water reduces the spice a little, makes the peat negligible, and change it into BBQ roasted grilled pineapple.
Финиш	88	Long and warming with crispy roasted nuts. Water takes away some of the crisp and it becomes more citric.

It's astonishing how smoky it is; I'm not used to this kind of smokiness from Springbank. The Longrow 100 Proof was released at the beginning of the year, and now Springbank is following suit. Both wines share the characteristic of having been bottled after a relatively short maturation period (five years). The Springbank fares better, however, as its aroma belies its youth. On the palate and in the finish, though, its age becomes apparent, meaning it can't compete with, for example, a 12 CS. Edit 13.12.2025: This could be one of those bottlings that you can gradually get used to. Before this whole bottle, I had a 10cl sample; I wrote my notes after about 4cl. Even then, I liked it considerably better than its Longrow 100° Proof predecessor, but I felt it was lacking on the palate and in the finish. Now I'm somewhat surprised that its 57.1% ABV seems a bit milder to me than the 54.7% of the Madeira Society bottling I tasted shortly before – and it doesn't feel quite as young as it did initially… But yes, the finish is still short. But otherwise… … I am glad that I added another purchase at a good price to further verify its quality.

Нос	86	Very fresh – and nicely smoky. An open bag of sour fruit drops, salty sea spray, fresh herbs, damp straw, rapeseed honey, vanilla – it's hard to believe it's only five years old; you'd hardly notice it in the nose. The nose is delightful and makes you look forward to what's to come.
Вкус	86	A very powerful start with a comparatively strong peat smoke. I can't immediately think of a Springbank that has tasted smokier to me than this one. Lemon zest, dry oak, saltwater-damp pebbles. The power that was evident on the palate at the beginning lasts a long time, even as it develops. Multivitamin, green apple, pineapple. It becomes increasingly bitter, but without losing its maritime freshness.
Финиш	85	With dry oak spice and (for a Springbank) intense peat smoke, it lingers on the tongue for a relatively long time, however, the other previously mentioned aromas have already disappeared, so that it is only the oak-smoke duet that waves goodbye.

Well, what to compare this to? Is it among the top Springbank releases? No. Can it compete with the 100 Proof from the 2000's? Not really. Bang-for-your-buck? So-so. But compare it to any other 5-year-old whisky and it shows how Springbank's spirit is in a league of its own.

Springbank intends to release batches of the 5yo 100-proof every quarter, sticking to the same recipe for a more linear, dependable, and visible/available SB on the shelves – now that the hype for the first release has passed. N: Observations around brine over cotton [sheets] over candy, singed olives towards burnt match. Looking out to the wider picture, it’s a fresh one, alright. T: A strange start on a muffled malty fruity dryness, with something akin to [Diamond Distillery] rum – often challenging if rewarding in nature. Looking around, much like last month’s encounter [WLP83], it’s not going down too well. F: A subdued nature to one so young and fresh, a result I likened to music tracks being heavily compressed. Perhaps peeps like the fino a little more now? C: We all want to like this, so we’re surprised we don’t. Will this young [too young?] release satiate the buy-to-drink fans whilst SB’s stock of whisky at ten or more years grows?

This was a sample courtesy of Peatbogger and Slainte Mhath. Fantastic whisky. Absolutely loved it.

Нос	89	Distinctively Springbank. The farmyard funk that everyone calls it and i ain't arguing. There are lots of fruits either on the boil or in the oven. There is a lovely balance here and it just slightly flips from one to the other.
Вкус	91	This is wonderful stuff even at this strength. I had a Hazelburn at the same strength and I was struggling with it. Again the balance is really, really good. It's exquisite. I'm enjoying this so much at cask strength I'm not touching it with water.
Финиш	92	The finish is what I would expect from this wonderful bottling. A two horse race and a photo finish.

Surprisingly convincing, I wouldn't have thought so. Quite promising, and well-made from a technical standpoint.

Нос	87	Clean and creamy, with a mild lemon note. The alcohol is only perceptible as a slight gluey note. Not overly complex, but very tasty and well-balanced.
Вкус	87	Wow, pure elderflower syrup on steroids! But not overpowering, the alcohol is very well integrated. Admittedly, it doesn't have a huge number of facets. But I still like it. :)
Финиш	85	Of course, it eventually collapses; young people just don't have the staying power ;) But it takes a while until then. However, there are no traces of sharpness or metallicity.

Iodine freshness, cut hay, farmyard and barnyard notes, creamy vanilla, and a hint of tropical fruit. A fairly pronounced, charcoal-like smoke, damp grass, and then finally quite mineral, even chalky. A pinch of coarse sea salt. On the palate, it's very bourbon-like, smooth, liquid honey, a zest of citrus, cake batter, pastry cream, then fierce spices: cumin, horseradish, clove. A beautiful, long, and not overly aggressive finish: tobacco leaf, cigarette ash, coffee grounds, kola nut, holly leaf, a drop of salted caramel. Lacquered wood. A well-made whisky, young but complex, all within the lines. This may sound not attractive, but it certainly is!

Нос	87	Mossy, vegetal, slightly saline, "green" peaty nose. Then toffee, coconut, a hint of vanilla and orchard fruit. Later alson autumnal, on leaf, minerals. Finally a sweet note of honeyed malt and dark sugar.
Вкус	87	Medium bodied, well balanced between creamy/sweet, and an earthy and peaty side. A tad fruitier than on the nose, clearer onbappke and gooseberry. Towards the end, it stays on the friendly side, with a minor spicy side.
Финиш	86	Lingering, gently spicy, and a nice complex finale of earthy and mineral peat, honey, fruit and a hint of wood.

Initially, a lot of alcohol on the nose, but clear Springer DNA: dirty smoke, citrus, salt, sea spray, chalk. Pickle. What an opening on the palate. The alcohol is a bit high in the first sip. Then it improves. Citrus becomes sweet, lime, oysters, campfire. Then it sounds medium-long at most. Anyone who likes Springbank will enjoy this one. But for me, it's quite young and spicy. The 10-year-old is a much better choice for me, unless you like more smoke. Due to its age and the percentage, this one has a much stronger presence.

I had high expectations for this 5-year-old whisky from one of my favorite distilleries. Does it live up to expectations? I think every malthead would agree that many distilleries would be SO jealous. Even at 57.1% ABV, the whisky is quite well-balanced and easy to drink neat.

S 8 Getting on the bandwagon. Quinessential Springbank at its youth - not uncommon in some sub-10yo bourbon cage bottle. Campbeltown in a glass. At RRP this is quite decent, I it also strikes a better balance between spirit and cask than Longrow 100 proof. Worth noting that SB new make does require time to tame the funk, and 5 years feels like a bare minimum.

Нос	86	Vanilla peanut toffee cream. Bourbon biscuit. Lemon meringue. Dirty coastal dunnage warehouse - Wet earth, briney, damp oak, and bourbon casks maturing quietly. Burnt cigar. Middle delivers porridge and some wet herbs. Starfruits. Heated honey. Gets smokier and more umami as it breathes. Brought me all the way back to their warehouse in Campbeltown.
Вкус	85	Chimey smoke laning. Creamy mouthfeel. Barley sugar. Yellow fruits. Lemon meringue. Peppercorn, ginger, nutmeg. More vanilla and honey. Earthy peat. Sea breeze at the background, waves after waves. Salted pineapples. Cooked malt. Some typical SB funk here. It's multifaceted, but lighter than the nose suggested.
Финиш	84	Mid-long, mildly oily finish. Nutty, more wet earthy peat, and coastal breeze. Some zingy yellow fruits. Lacking weight compared to nose & palate.

After a while, as the nose adjusts, herbs, vanilla, burnt butter, sugar syrup, a faint musty smoke, and Werters Original candy emerge. Citrus notes and ginger are also present in the background. 86.00 (but you have to give it time)
Вкус	84	Palate: Oh, it burns and stings. It's young and completely unstructured. Sweetness blends with the astringency of wood, musty hay, herbs, and bitter citrus. Unfortunately, the alcohol and intense, pungent spices overwhelm everything. 84.50
Финиш	84	Finish: Similar to the taste, sweet yet bitter, strongly pungent, warming, buttery, and honeyed. It quickly fades, leaving a pungent aftertaste in the throat. 84.00

Wow! What a delicious whisky. It doesn't get any better with water, so just drink it at cask strength! A wonderful balance of tropical fruit and those funky Springbank aromas and flavors.

quite "empty", little coming out, even with some warmth, it doesn't give many aromas to its best. In the mouth, it is honest and easy to drink, better than what I expected. But still very young. For the price, it is really ok-ish and of good quality.

The Springbank version of Kilkerran Heavily Peated, or, in other words, an almost unpeated version of Kilkerran Heavily Peated. Or, for those of you with a dirty mind, a Kilkerran Heavily Peated-ized version of Springbank. The problem is that the Glengyle distillate has enough character to stand on its own after bottling, while the Springbank distillate needs the help of a good selection of casks to reach its full potential.

A very young Springbank, oozing youth. Beautifully crafted and tasteful for its age. As I understand it, it will be included in the core range. Note: This Springbank is worth no more than €70.00. Don't buy it above that price, because it's truly not worth it.

This reflects Springbank's high standards; it's hard to imagine they've done so well in just five years. I really like it. It's definitely worth buying a bottle.

Нос	88	The signature Springbank scent. Bright and grassy, with a hint of ash at the end.
Вкус	88	Mineral, metallic, with a hint of sweetness. Strong-bodied with a touch of alcohol.

Distillate-driven but clean. (If you get it) for 60 EUR a solid malt that shines best mid palate then some spices linger but overall finish is rather short. The nose a bit spirity but not unpleasant. Not bottle I personally need but e.g. if I bought it for 100 EUR on secondary/from greedy vendors, I'd be a bit disappointed. So, not terrible as some have suggested at least elsewhere in the whisky bubble online, but a solid 5 yo boubon cask version thas obviously has not been drowned by wet (wine) casking (which would've introduced a bunch of other problems. Only so much you can expect from a 5 yo mild peater... ;-)

Tasted from a Glencairn glass. Tasted without added water! You can tell it's still quite young and boisterous. Everything still seems quite grassy, but the honey-peach note is always pleasantly present. The Springbank DNA is noticeable, albeit in a subdued form.

The overall style is fairly standard for a Genting. The aroma is quite nice. On the palate, it's strong but the flavors are a bit thin. The mid-palate burst is fleeting, and the finish is quite long. The structure isn't very well-connected, but considering it's five years old, it's quite good. ????

I think it's a very successful bottling. Its place in the core range is certainly debatable, but if it's implemented in a way that makes this fine distillate more accessible, I think it's a project worth supporting. I should emphasize that it doesn't contain any disturbing youthful elements; I think the age statement is a rather shallow source of controversy. While I mentioned a sense of youth, this youthfulness isn't 5 years old, but rather at levels I've experienced in whiskies aged 8-10 years. I think the biggest reason this bottling has sparked controversy is because of those who speak without trying it, those who form preconceived notions before even holding a bottle. Like most Springbanks, it's excellent value for money. Tasteful! Price performance: Good, Very-good Would I buy it again?: Yes.

Нос	87	Springbank's funk is here, a very industrial, slightly cheesy base note. A nice yellow fruity base. A very, very light raw alcohol lingers. Vanilla, perhaps. Banana peels. A nice crackeriness, gasoline. A slight animal fat. Grease. Coal. A sulfurous edge, like Adana kebab, like charcoal-grilled meat. A very enjoyable nose. Although rawer notes emerge from the heaviness expected from Springbank at some points, it's impossible to call this nose unpleasant.
Вкус	87	The palate is quite spicy, with plenty of black pepper, light cinnamon, beautiful plums, and a hint of nectarine. A nice, subtle, funky, earthy, slightly animalic springbank peat. While I'm scoring this at 88, I'm still rather disappointed. To me, this just is the same thing as the regular 10 years old but slightly younger (less depth) and stronger. Add the price difference, and this makes for a bit of a difficult whisky. It's funky, it's coastal. There are notes of marram grass and basalt. A hint of smoke and olive oil, kippers even. Really solid whisky, but should clock in at 60-ish instead of 100+

Having just finished the 10yo and 12 CS im really starting to appreciate this fresh upstart. A young slightly harsh malt. First struck by fresh fruity notes, oily mouthfeel followed by biscuit cereals, vanilla, chocolate, honey, peach. This needs time and a few drops of water which draw out the Campbeltown funky farm flavours, spicy notes emerge, peppers and vanilla, honey bacon, and wet bandages. More like a Hazelburn at high ABV rather than Springbank.This one is growing on me given time in glass, the class of Springbank starts to shine.

I can find Springbank a little flat until it opens up - but not in this case. It was ready to roll from the moment the bottle was cracked and I don’t really feel like it has changed at all from the grubby, bittersweet citrus-bomb it started out as.

Нос	85	Dusty dunnage and petrol fumes fuse together and reveal a growing centre of lemon sorbet radiating juicy waves of real lemon juice sweetened with powdered sugar stored with vanilla pods but kept sharp by additional fizzy sherbet, ground ginger and nutmeg. Faint cereal and yeast come across like lightly baked oats and crusty white bread.
Вкус	85	Canola oil with vanilla and salt accelerates towards Lemon sherbet boiled sweets, peaks and settles into Lemon drizzle cake dusted in white pepper.

At first, this edition didn't really grab me, but the longer I opened the bottle, the more Springbank funk emerged. Good thing! (But at this price, it has to deliver.) A bit of smoke, fruit (mostly light stone fruit, but occasionally a hint of strawberry), dirty hall "model locomotive shed", hazelnut biscuit, herbal notes, lots of sweetness, a bit hot due to the high alcohol content. After initial skepticism, the interim conclusion: a true Springbank. While very young, and you can tell, it offers a lot for a five-year-old malt.

Very distinctive springbank notes are clearly there, in the nose as well as in the mouth, reminds me of some younger cage stuff I had or living cask from the distillery shop, liked it but if you take the price of 100€ into account, I would always go for the regular 10 year bottling at around 75€.

Eksperyment: Jako całość nawet ok, choć dla mnie brakuje więcej soli - zmieszałem 30% nowej glen scoti 12 i tego młodziaka 70% i to jest fajny dram 53,77%.(tym bardziej że nowa gs12 jest oleista, więc nie zabiera odbioru).

Tastes much older than 5yrs Old and definitely has older stock in the vatting. A much better representation than the Society 5yo Bourbon. Incredible value at this price.

It tastes good, sweeter and more pleasant than some teenage bourbon cask whiskies, but it's also more expensive than those casks.

A beauty of a young malt, full of character and personality as almost all the Springbanks are and should be. I am, just maybe, a bit biased for the love and hype I have about the distillery and its identity, but without any doubt I will recommend it to any whisky lover. I could define it as “Campbeltown in a glass”, pure funk goodness. Thanks Springbank for making this and please, put it in the core range.

I was a little worried this one would be very young and sharp. Knowing Springbank, I should have known better. It's a nice whisky. I was able to buy it for around €65. For that price, it's a great addition to my whisky cabinet, and the price-quality ratio remains excellent. Definitely not worth the 100 euros some shops ask for it.

Нос	88	It could stand a bit of water. This immediately brings a generous hint of citrus fruit from the glass. A bit of dust and a light peat. Then some tropical fruit. The alcohol doesn't sting the nose at all. Surprisingly delicious!
Вкус	87	Not very complex, but what it produces, it produces well. Sweet, fruity with a light peat. Recognizable as a springbank. Compared to the 12-year-old CS, it doesn't hold a candle. But that one is also almost 2.5 times as old.
Финиш	86	The peat lingers for a while, but the rest of the flavour fades away quite quickly, leaving behind some tropical fruit and a slight bitterness.

Wow, only 5 years old, you say? The nose reveals ripe apples, minerality, ginger, a bit sweeter than I'm used to from Springbank. Cane sugar and lemon meringue. Excellent. We find all of this in the taste as well: ginger, lime, pear, minerality, a bit salty, Springbank funk. The finish is a bit sharper, green chili pepper, salty. I like it!

Well, well, well… Now, it’s time to jump on this beautiful malt release of Springbank that is «only» 5 years old, but properly presented at 100*proof. However, don’t get me wrong, unique as he appears throughout the whole experience, there’s a lot to pick (using right equipment). I mean you got to dig very deep to find any single malt of this age, if at all, that can stand a side with his boldness, complexity and balance. Thanks a lot, ones again, dear Springbank distillery!

First fill bourbon off course, should be the distillate it’s self, indeed. What a wonderful combination, I just want to sniff for hours… Fantastic. 88+

classic Springbank, no questions asked. A bit more edgy than the 10y (which imo is the best). The sweetness of the spirit come through very nicely. No alcoholic sting in spite the 100 proof and 5y. Very recommended.
