Although the peat levels are high, it's not a typical Islay peat - more like a chocolate brownie with a few fresh chillis thrown in. Well worth trying, although a full bottle might be a bit much.

Chocolate brownies dropped in a muddy field, some blackcurrant, with the peat coming through more as an earthy note than a smoky one. |

The mouthfeel is good as there is a pleasant thickness to it - the taste opens with the chocolate notes, there is a little smoke before the alcohol comes in providing a big hit of heat (chilli) although it is surprisingly gentle for the abv. A slight bitter note at the death. |

A delicate aroma of tropical fruit and rowan berries, a hint of furniture varnish, a very thin and neat stream along the very edge, a sharper taste, the same sweet fruits, but at the same time, it is an explosion of bright flavors, and a long, sweet and burning aftertaste! It was wonderful and unique.

A rich and dense whisky, at the same time very young, with some fuselage and alcohol present, but overall this does not introduce a strong imbalance into the overall picture; this is a definitely formed, integral product, with a fairly wide palette of derivatives and depth available, such a fusion of youth and unexpected maturity, and this is attractive.
The nose is very creamy, but not like pastry cream, with a layer of peat and a medicinal touch, dried heather, almonds, cut hay, intense mineral notes, vanilla and lemon, but in the background, semi-salted butter, barley sugar, apricot jam, and floral fragrances. On the palate, toasted hazelnuts, coconut, salted and creamy caramel, green apple, seaweed, and ginger. Peat and spices abound. The finish is very long and well-made, with a generous pinch of salt, marzipan, a fireplace, dark chocolate and mint, honey, and ether. Intense pepper and lots of smoke linger on the palate. The 13.1 and the 15.1 were very elegant, and this one is more rustic, more country-style, but with a certain elegance nonetheless. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2025/12/octomore-2019-edition-161-impossible.html

I expected a mediocre whisky for a lot of money, which doesn't match the quality, but instead I received a very decent whisky, traditionally with plenty of smoke, sweet yellow fruit in the form of apples, apricots, and juicy peaches. The finish is very pleasant, with a campfire and a hint of chocolate and fresh mint. If I find it at a good price somewhere, I'll gladly buy it.

Low points of 82 ???? Well i do like it and know all Octomore Editions. the 16.1 has a great blossom influence wilch makes it special, also Bourbon cask and ppm are intense... good salt in the end = )

I enjoyed this one in a Bruichladdich masterclass, but it didn't blew me away like some other Octomores in the past. The palate and finish are more exciting than the nose, altough they still lacks a bit of refinement and depth in taste and development. No magic in this Octomore edition for me!

Peated of course, yet surprisingly restrained for the ppm's mentioned. Beyond the peat it's a bit floral, there's some vanilla and a nice whiff of ozone. I've also an association of wet dog and detergent, not too sure about that… |

Full on peat now, yet not medicinal in style since Bruichladdich sources its peat from the Highlands and not from Islay (like several others from that island). A clear salty / maritime element unfolds together with apples and citrus fruits. The mouth feel is thick and oily, an intense experience as expected! |

Oily, fruity, vanilla-like. Metallic smoke, but subtle. On the tongue, green apple, peppery, Subtle smoke. Almonds. Very harmonious
Tasted from a Glencairn glass. Tasted without added water! This Octomore has a subtle smoky note, which I'm not used to. I also keep detecting a salty note, which I find very pleasant. Despite all that, this is a somewhat weak Octomore for me.

Sweet peat smoke. Very strong and concentrated.
Iam not a fan of Octomore, because of the pricing, but this is American oak, no wine casks involved. Let's try it... Well..it is very good for a 5 y old. It is the peated variant of the Springbank 5y old and I loved that one. But the price is just too high. 88 minus 1 for the price

The Octomore experience begins with a surprisingly floral and elegant nose, revealing unusual notes of licorice, green tea (matcha), and jasmine. This delicate sweetness is accompanied by a rustic undertone reminiscent of lightly smoked pork rind. |

On the palate, the whisky is purist and straightforward. It has a very sweet taste, dominated by aromas of flambéed and roasted grain. Despite its high 59% ABV, the alcohol is described as superbly integrated and honest. |

The finale is peaty and very long-lasting. It's a classic, powerful finish that delivers exactly what the purist approach promises. |
Good one with 86/87p though I prefered the .2 for some extra complexity from the sherry / wine casks (88p), with the .3 benefiting from the local barley (89p)

Tasted this at the WTF 2025 in Utrecht, where chats were abundant and notes were scarce. But here’s my take on this whisky. Although I do like an Octomore, this one was the least pleasant one I have tasted so far. It’s somewhat immature, which shows by the out of balance alcohol. Let’s hope it was just my palet that was off. I’ll definitely give this another go if I get the chance, but wouldn’t buy it at the moment.
Tried without adding water. [88~91] complex, interesting, fun, I can spend more time with it, "I want to have it" :-D

This is where the 59% ABV first becomes apparent. The palate begins to tingle. Chili and cinnamon heat, framed by sweet marzipan, floral impressions, and tropical fruits. I notice the peat smoke more strongly now, although I don't find it dominant here either. However, it is now saltier with iodine and lingers longest in the medium to long finish. Later, slight sulfur notes appear, which are not unpleasant for me (I am very sensitive to sulfur). |
I agree with WHISKYEUROPA2009. Blossom, apricot jam, fruity freshness comes through. Lovely

Nose is somewhat faint, but I did pick up smoldering embers, butter toffee, sea salt and dried apricots. Lots of peat on the palate, salty with touch of sweetness. Peppery finish that became very drying. I’m a little underwhelmed by this Octomore expression.
Smell of yeast, barley tea. Fully taste of yeast, malty. Very slight scent of fruit, not bad smell of yeast.

Color: pale gold. Nose: ski wax, roasted barley, peat, oilcloth, tar, pomelos, iodine, wool, burnt tires, green tea, smoke, green apples, lemons, pears, charcoal, dried calamari, honey glazed ham, fried bananas. Smells really good! Taste: smoky and oily, peat, chocolate, coffee beans, baked apples, pears, soot, spice, salt, cacao, clove, oak. Alcohol is well integrated. Finish: apples, salt, pears, peat, lemons, honey, spice, chocolate, coffee beans, smoke. Somewhat hot. Conclusion: no fancy maturation here, just good old first-fill bourbon barrels. I have a feeling, though, that the barley was extra roasted, giving the malt some really unnecessary sweetness that clashes with the pleasant tartness and affects the balance. Nothing to complain about with the peat. The levels are far from record-breaking, yet quite satisfying. I'd say the score is still high, around 87/100, but this malt is not on par with Octomore 16.3.
