Сухой, пряно-травяной херес из чистой (без серы) бочки, с дубовой хваткой и раскрытием от воды. Опытные единодушно хвалят пряный профиль и чистоту; расхождение лишь в том, насколько выражена хересная насыщенность.

В аромате преобладают пряности на полную мощь и сухая, скорее травяная хересность: тёмный шоколад, сухофрукты (изюм, чернослив, инжир), грецкий орех, табак, кожа, смола и мятная свежесть, за которыми прячется сдержанная сладость; европейский дуб деликатен, а не назойлив. Вкус маслянистый и плотный, поначалу очень сухой и вяжущий, почти дубовый, но затем приходит концентрированная карамельно-лакричная сладость, чили-острота, эспрессо и молочный шоколад; вода смягчает резкость и вытягивает спелые фруктовые ноты (сливы, виноград, коньячные тона). Послевкусие длинное, пряно-дубовое с перцем и травами, без горечи, а фрукты у многих проявляются неожиданно поздно.
Опытные ревьюеры трактуют бочку как сухой фино и единодушно ценят её чистоту (100% без серы), сложность и пряно-перечный характер, отмечая мощь и «кусачесть» вместо скуки. Менее опытные добавляют нюансы разброса: часть находит образец из хорошей повторной бочки более светлым и менее хересным, с зелёной фруктовостью, лёгкой солёностью и земляным характером Гленфарклас, тогда как другие описывают тёмную, тяжёлую хересную бомбу и даже улавливают серу и дубовую горечь. Критика сводится к недостаточной слоистости, замкнутости без воды и тому, что вкус не всегда дотягивает до носа. Оценки плотно держатся в диапазоне 87–92 с редкими выбросами, что говорит о высокой согласованности при разнице лишь в акцентах.

[November, 2018] Oh, a very high rated dram (91 points on average by 10 votes) quickly after it entered the market - so this is a must try... ...and this a fine spicy-herbal driven Fino sherried dram. Lovers of this sherry-style will adore it and I assume that even the friends of sweeter sherries will find this interesting and worth a try. 100 per cent sulphur-free and flawless, a great pick for The Family...

What a nice contrast to the lush fruity oloroso dram (vintage 1988) I had just before. This seems to was rather a Fino sherry cask and it created a beautiful complex and balanced profile together with the fine 'farclas malt. |

Very interesting to explore but not really layered, unfortunately - so all impressions intermingle somewhat. Nevertheless I like it a lot! Water opens up the nose nicely and smoothes both the taste and finish - I like to nose this dram reduced but prefer to drink it neat (using two glasses)... |

The finish is long and adds some fine fruits (wow, I never had fruits appearing that late in a whisky) and chocolatey flavours. This is the best about the dram (because the finish offers the most complex flavours profile). |

Good example of how I really like oak, in combination with nuts, crispy, as if to bite into, instead of being sucked on dead oak. Nice malt, good example of Fino as well.
Straightforward, ripe and powerful sherry malt. Lots of dark chocolate and intense sherry aromas. Also with a lot of bite, not a bore.

A beautiful family cask in which the spicy notes clearly set the tone. No bad notes, everything is consistent and with a little water it becomes even more supple. All in all a wonderful malt, if you like it spicy and peppery.

Thanks for the hs305 sample. A dry, but not woody, sherry malt that improves with water. Absolutely old school.
| Нос | 92 | 91.5 The body is delicate yet heavy, very mature. The aromas are dry, tart, rather floral and nutty. Hardly any fruit. I find walnuts in wild forest honey, pine, dark tobacco, 90% dark chocolate and resin. Then comes a subtle note of mint. Liver pâté and gravy from Beef Wellington. With water, it reveals lovely fruity notes of ripe plums, dried raisins, and ripe grapes. Fruity cognac notes. Fantastic interplay and complex aromas. |

Even with water it's still dry and bitter, but then it tastes more like milk chocolate and mint. Not exactly light, but still like a nutty Glendronach SC. |

I enjoyed this family cask in a tasting with four other family casks (1986 w15 & sp17, 2002 s18 and 2003 s20). This one was the odd one out: definetely lighter in colour and without a heavy sherried character. Nevertheless, this one has a great and refined flavour profile with a lot of depth. The wonders of a good refill cask!

The entire tasting experience from start to finish. The aroma profile is almost identical in the nose and palate: dark, heavy notes of a truckload of dried herbs (rosemary, tarragon, cumin), tobacco, sherry, leather, peppermint freshness, bitter chocolate and oak seasoning, in the background also dark fruit notes (pickled raisins, light fermented grapes, prunes). With a little water, the fruit notes are much better against the spice notes. A beautiful melange, nicely layered and constantly in motion. The mint and chocolate notes do not stand side by side as in the direction of after eight, but flash and appear again in the background. The spice notes form the appropriate "background noise". Strong onset and medium texture on the palate, long-lasting finish, in which the fruit notes are at least not noticeable to me. Otherwise a nice continuation of the aromas on the palate.

I like the smell very much: stimulating, multi-layered, independent. The taste doesn't quite match the nose and the finish lacks a bit of complexity. Overall, the herbal aroma dominates: herbal sugar as schnapps. That is extraordinary, independent. The distillery character is hardly recognizable. Tasty and interesting, but not without its flaws.

The reviews here have already hit the nail on the head. An incredible creaminess in the mouth, mixed with chilli spiciness, is best for me. With a little water, which he gets very well and time in the glass (1.5 hours), he develops even more positively, more sherry notes but also the spices can be tasted more nuanced. Highly recommended!
Anyone who likes dried figs like me will love them. The sweetness and also the sulfur move from the smell to the taste to the finish.
A very unusual, dark and heavy family cask! Not what I would normally have expected from a "only" 24 year old Refill Butt.

Nose: The alcohol tingles a bit in the nose, but this is immediately followed by massive wood and sherry. At first I am a little afraid that the sherry will crush the malt. Reminds me of the Cask Bottling-Glendronachs from TWB. I can also find dark chocolate. Mouth: First a small punch of alcohol in the mouth, but it only leaves a pleasant tingling and a little sharpness. I associate something like old leather armchairs and chili chocolate. Overall, I have the association of dark chocolate in my head all the time. 70% + Finish: There is a long reverberation and towards the end there are still fruits that I somehow couldn't find before. Has something of orange peel and now the wood comes out again.
