This whisky comes from the still young Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye. It is therefore not surprising that visually I have a straw-yellow whisky with quite narrow windows in the glass. But it is neither cold-filtered nor colored and is bottled with an alcohol content of 46% vol. So you might expect a young savage. This expectation is partly fulfilled. It is definitely not an off-the-shelf whisky and I will definitely keep an eye on further developments.

Despite the strong peaty and smoky notes, I still consider this rather easy drinkable

Quick hit review. Whisky calendar - Day 4. Torabhaig is quickly building a reputation, so I was happy to find this sample. On the nose, briny peat smoke, rock pools and lime juice mix with mineral, earthy and sour notes. I'm getting Caol Ila vibes. Citrus fruits, pepper and eucalyptus follow on the palate, while the vegetal peatiness intensifies. Something sharp/hot stirs. Grapefruit and a dash of salt linger in the peaty finish. Allt Gleann hides its young age well, which is impressive, but I don't see a clear signature (yet). RATING: 3.5/5.0 stars ≙ 84 pts → ABOVE AVERAGE

Quick review. Advent calendar 4.12. I've done a review of this on another bottle code, and since I don't know the code of this one I'll put it on the default. My score from that one is repeated here. For a 3-4 year old distillate this is pretty solid.

Citrus, iodine, vanilla, medicinal peat, easy

Quite an easy drinking dram - very clean tasting. Even if you're not a huge fan of peat, this is quite approachable.

To young, the whisky doesn't taste matured.

Extremely bright, straw and even light straw color. Oily structure.

1966) Torabhaig, Allt Glean- The Legacy Series This is my second Torabhaig, the inaugural release- Edition 1 of this series I tried back then was good in my book.

Old Valley After the successful launch of their Inaugural Release, the Torabhaig distillery founded on Skye in 2017 came up a few months ago with this second release in their so-called Legacy Series. The young malt, composed from around 300 bourbon barrels from 2017 and 2018, listens to the name Allt Gleann, which means as much as Old Valley. Like its predecessor, it is bottled at 46%. I stick my nose in the glass and immediately get the feeling of standing with an old pharmacist’s shop. Burn ointment, plasters and something that reminds me of jute bags. Soft, sweet peat, white fruit and orange peel with a hint of kelp. In all honesty, reminds me a bit of Caol Ila or even Ledaig. It is surprisingly soft on arrival. The body is even a bit on the light side. But immediately peaty on soot, brackish water, aniseed, vanilla and icing sugar. A little farmy. The comparison with Caol Ila and Ledaig is again valid, much more than the often made comparison with Talisker. The aftertaste offers menthol, peat, green herbs and a slight bitterness. Gently drying. For his young age, this is already quite a malt. As it is also friendly priced (about 55 EUR), I can only be happy about this release. They are making good progress at Torabhaig.

A wonderfully impressive second showing from Torabhaig, who are really starting to win me over.

camphor nose, on hay, peppery spices, a bit of hospital corridor the mouth on the wet algae, iodized from the sea spray, the cold, mineral ash, lemon the malt is very present the finish on a clean, slightly fatty peat, with fruits cooked on lemon, peaty and iodized, finally wet hay.

Pure and clean peated dram. Very positively surprised

I get back in at 10/12 years. Nice to have tried it at the moment, but I don't need a second bottle.

From the outset, coarse salt, the foam, the tide, the sand soaked in seawater, the sea breeze. On top of this, a thick and quite frank peat, the rest is marked by the influence of Bourbon barrels, especially creamy vanilla and some Italia grapes. On the palate, it's very light, with vague bourbon hints, a good pile of vegetable peat and a grain of salt. Rustic spices. Nice, earthy and iodized finish, not very long but correct. Flower of salt. Mirabelle plum. Hazelnuts and almonds. Bottle code 20.07.2021, auctioned for 35 euros in November 2025. I cannot confirm the 89 points that Serge finds in the 2022 bottling for the 2021 bottling. This is a very fine, rather young whisky from Skye. A large batch made predominantly from bourbon barrels and reduced to approximately 46%. A young bottling with clean, very light peat aromas and a beautiful distillate.

So far, the situation on the Isle of Skye has been clear: Whisky from Skye was Talisker. Made by the Sea, i.e. colored, filtered and matured on the mainland. Now the whisky world on the island is coming to life. Torabhaig brings the first whiskys onto the market, a young distillery on the south east coast of the island. Also quite smoky, in contrast to the Talisker but not chill filtered and above all not colored. Ok, this distillery doesn't have warehouses on the island (yet?). I have the same Advent calendar... Really neat for the young age. Overall, I'm still missing a bit of the characteristic.

S 7 Thin, heavy legs. A whisky for the peathead. Not much complexity, very young, but wonderfully peated. It smells like Islay peat. [78-82] I'll gladly welcome another dram. N 25 Heavily peated. Cigar ash. Sweet malt. Almost like nosing an Octomore 10.1. A whiff of vanilla and coastal breeze. P 24 Soft, earthy peat, a slight tune down compared to the nose. Then a punch from chilli and black pepper. A trip around the farmhouse, fresh hay. Much sweeter than expected from the nose, sweet malt all the way to support. A touch of menthol and brine in the background. The oat is faintly noticeable. F 24 Long-mid finish. Juicy fruits and moderate peat lingering. Young oak.

Oh, I clearly won't like this whisky, it's completely not my taste profile.

Really really good for it's age... Since it's really young distillery which needs money I will say ok priced. Hope so prices will go little bit down and older releases when it comes will be affordable! Really look forward for this distillery

Morning at the Harbour Inn A cold morning down by the harbor with a sharp maritime brine, corded ropes, wispy smoke, and a kiss of algae on the pier. Stewed fish heads and smoked oysters with a touch of tin carried the whisky toward a hearty breakfast with a side of lemon tea and a puff of pipe tobacco. Medium to light-bodied with crisp citrus, brine, and wood smoke. Herbal tea with a side of lemon arrived with rusted corrugated tin, tarry ropes, and weathered wood. Firmly still in the harbor with some meaty fish and distant diesel fumes. Water brought more salted fruits, watermelon, and citrusy sangria to the maritime flavor profile. The finish was medium-length with gentle brine, wood, and smoke. I love what they are doing at Torabhaing Distillery. Much like the first Legacy Series release, it was hard to believe this delightful whisky was only three or four years old. The flavors were rounded and well-balanced between sweet, savory, and salt. I love the combination, though it left me wondering what is distinctive about the distillery and its style. I cannot say anything has stood out as particularly recognizable— some quality that immediately cues you in on the provenance of the malt. Maybe that does not matter because, hey, if you do something well enough, your baseline quality can be the distinctive aspect of the distillery. As a preview of things still to come, I enjoyed this maritime and citrusy delight and look forward to seeing what comes from Torabhaig in the future.

The youth of course notice it because of its edges and sharpness, but it is still well crafted. I liked the sweet and tart interplay - October 2nd, 2021

A very good first impression of Torabhaig for me! The sweet herbal and floral style of peat reminds me somewhat of Highland Park and Ardmore with a dose of Islay, but not particularly of Talisker. Regarding the fact this isn't even a 4 years old I am defintely keeping Torabhaig on the radar for the future!

An exceptional whisky. Powerful maritime notes and peat, accompanied by first fill barrel. Tons of personality and amazing quality. Talisker has a serious new competitor on his island.

Crafted pretty well, but still a bit angular. With better barrels and longer maturation, very interesting bottlings could be created here in the future - the distillery character obviously has a lot to offer.

Peat smoke, citrusy, orange peel, heated roisins, deerskin, Asian spice, tobacco, sea breeze, iodine, vanilla. Balanced, medium-bodied, salty, pleasant texture.

It has a relatively oily viscosity and its bouquet is of a relatively strong intensity. I have aromas of marine peat smoke, citrus fruit, vanilla and pear. Not very complex yet, of course. A good balance between sweetness and dryness in terms of taste. The alcohol is very well integrated and it has a medium body.

It's like Talisker 10 and Ardbeg wee beastie would be mixed. It is a very good drink.

Competent NAS peated malt from a new distillery. No real flaws, just a bit youthful and uncomplex. The nose is the best part of this whisky, while the palate shows its youthfulness. Definitely has potential but needs more time in oak to meld the aromas and flavors together better.

Promising bottling. Excited about the future of Torabhaig. Especially since the neighbor is unfortunately dismantling from my point of view lately. The only small drawback, if you want to put it that way: The smoke is more Islay-oriented. A slightly more independent character would be the icing on the cake.

This is a very unique/original/interesting/surprising whisky. For something that is not older than 4 years, it is actually f.....g brilliant! Peat, smoke, honey, light fruits (think yellow/green apples), some citrus and tobbaco. Tobbaco in a 3-4 years old whisky? Yes! When buying this, I was affraid of metalic notes, but there are none I can find when tasting it, luckily. Not overly too complex, but not a simplistic whisky either. This distillery has clearly a lot of potential...

For me personally, the whisky is not a disappointment, but it is not a revelation either. Perhaps a whisky along the lines of “We are young and need the money”? But if you know in advance that it is a very young whisky, you can definitely get involved with it and deal with it. I don't think he's bad for his age, I didn't miss any grades, the 46% really suits him. From my point of view, it already shows a bit of the potential and increases the anticipation for older bottlings from Torabhaig. Very present, warm and pleasant smoky notes, sweet malt, there are a few reminiscences of a butter croissant, definitely maritime reminiscences with a slightly salty sea breeze, I can't find any fruit and unfortunately miss them a bit. Quite similar to its taste, pleasant spicy notes with a minimal bitterness are added relatively quickly, it then quickly becomes dry in the mouth, but always remains on the pleasant side. Medium-length, slightly sweet-malty and drying finish.

scbp-5253, very comfortable, peat whisky with heavy handmade traces, the peat is weaker than Islay Nansanjia and Longrow, far stronger than Genting, the charm is similar to the slightly heavier Genting bourbon barrels of single-digit years, far more A special release from his neighbor. The flavor has a strong sense of stimulation, so reducing the degree is the right choice. I can give you a copy of this product as a release in this aging range.

Luckily he had a certain sweetness, otherwise I found him to be rather unspectacular. A little bit of a lot but not enough of something specific that would stick in my memory.

The creamy flavor is consistent throughout, with a slight hint of greenness; overall, it's very good.

(TASTED BLIND) NOSE: Peated. Mild / relatively light and sweet ashes. Vegetal dry peat notes with some Juniper and coniferous shrubs but also iodine and bandages. Later roasted black pepper and licorice. Not your typical Port Ellen Maltings peat, still I think it must be Islay peat. Nice. (89p). TASTE: The arrival is semi-sweet and moderately peaty. On the mid palate mild black pepper, a little licorice. Sugary barley sweetness. Delicious but not very complex. (87p). FINISH: Black pepper, a little ash and licorice. (86p). OVERALL: A medium young to medium aged Islay whisky? And if so, which? To little bacon and ashes to be Caol Ila, not enough citrus to be Ardbeg, the medicinal side is not rich or fat enough to be Laphroaig, close to Port Charlotte on the nose but too light and sugary in the mouth. Also to clean to be a Ledaig. Hmmm... Total score 87 points.

0467-TORABHAIG ALLT GLEANN - THE LEGACY SERIES Whisky SINGLE MALT SCOTCH Whisky 46% ... it's not bad. You can feel that it's a young item, but for such youth it's quite tasty. If someone likes very maritime climates. Salty, and more salty than sweet. I like it, so I may be biased. I think it's good material for maturing longer than the prescribed 3 years. If health allows and time is kind to me, then maybe I'll live to see Torabhaig in the 10 yo version or higher. Now I'm all for it.
