Modern whisky with strong sherry influence but lacking character, maturity and depth. Tasty, tasty and full of sherry influence but no comparison to the old 12er. It's just a modern whisky but for me it's more on the level of a Glendronach Octarine. Smooth grade 3 - satisfactory with no ups and downs.

The nose of the bottle that was opened a few minutes ago remains reserved at first. Virgin Oak present. A hint of carpentry, followed by the red and dark fruits. Becomes fruitier and sweeter as you drink. Edit: still seems a bit immature even after calming down the opened bottle. ME even a small miss. Small devaluation to the first rating Alcohol is super integrated, you don't feel much of the 46%. |

An uncomplicated and clean whisky that appears a bit older than it is. At 40 euros, it really is a very nice dram for lukewarm autumn evenings. The nose is very beautiful and balanced for the age and at least 46 percent. The profile is a simple but dazzling sherry profile with fruity and slightly spicy flavors. There is actually a slight menthol note in the background. The old whisky phrase fits here: what is there is good. The palate corresponds one to one to the nose and the finish is short but not thin, although the red wine barrels can actually be guessed at the very back.

S 6.5 This is more harmonic than the Rye finish in Glenallachie’s Wood Finish Series (WB133093). On the other hand, as there are so many cask types vatted into the final product, no cask and no distillate that particularly stands out, almost feels like a blend. To me, it’s a plus, if this is a £30 blend. There’s a lot going on in here but at the same time, it’s very much playing on the safe side. 81-85 - Another dram welcomed

Very fresh. Juicy oak brings out a lot of crispy apples and melon notes. Somehow reminded me of Green Spot. Mildly floral. Then a whiff of bitter herbs and cinnamon powder came through. Midway through and I’ve arrived at the domain of sweetness, toffee, honey, more fruits. In the bottom, I find roasted coffee beans, milk chocolate, all mixed with a bowl of toasted cereals. A dash of maple syrup on prunes. Subtle spices that are almost neglectable. |

I was very fond of the 12-year-old I gave it a solid 87 pts / 100. Let's see how the new little brother performs. Generally I like GA flavor profile so expect some good stuff here. I am very happy that they came out with such a young age-stated whisky. What's an extra is that it's an integrity bottling. Natural color and no chill-filtration. 46%. Let's get to it. N: Wow, wow, wow...Extremely inviting. Very thick sherry aromas. Very intense for an 8-year-old. Red fruits, dark caramelized orange, figs and dates. Lots of raisin. Chocolate and a red grape note. Going over these notes you can find some orchard fruits and fresh wood. Quite nice and complex. Alcohol is very well integrated here. (90) P: Oily, and thick. Quite fresh! Lots of red apples with pears and vanilla. Then you are getting those lovely sherry aromas. There is a bit of a bite if you don't give this some time and air in the glass. Once you do that it goes away. No metallic note here! It's very well balanced. Great sipper. (87) F: Medium finish. Honey with sherry and tannins from the barrel. A small pepper rush with some bitterness. (85) Lovely. For the price of 30-35 Euro you just can't go wrong. It's a great sipping whisky. I liked the nose the most defintiely. But overall it's great. Nice balance between sherry and freshness, fruitiness. 90 / 87/ 85 = 87.3333 --> 87 pts / 100 Seems like it gets the same score as I gave the 12. But shhhh I actually prefer this to the 12. Slainte Mhath everyone!

I think it's decent. Possibly a bit woody in the finish for some, but I didn’t find it off putting and enjoyed both sittings of this 5ml mini. The nose is really good, probably the best bit, although it does need time to open up. I got nothing but acetone burn straight out of the bottle, but it came alive after about 30 minutes resting and was happy to immediately put out sticky caramel, sweet glazed bread and beeswax. Following only with a slight lag, was the fruit: dried red berries, medjool dates, red toffee apple and touch of citrus. All juicy and not at all unexpected considering the variety of aging vessels this has lived in. A little of the spirity nature remains but is now mostly crowded out by its surroundings. For all the nose's complexity, the palate is comparatively simple, touching down with more languid caramel, candied red fruit and plum jam spiked with orange zest. After a while, fairly gentle shredded ginger builds and peaks revealing some very fresh oak. The tail starts with a lot of drying peppermint driven by that oak, and the astringency has a peanut skin quality to it, but as powerful as the woodiness is, spiced Ovaltine-Malt and dark jammy fruit hold their nerve keeping the sweetness present as herbal and cocoa bitterness try to get the upper hand. So, yes this is absolutely dominated by the casks, but it’s still good whisky and despite all of the action it has seen, the malt is still a tangible presence.

I tried this new Glenallachie 8 year old (released 2022) at a tasting with their full lineup. It had been awhile since I tried a Glenallachie and I was hoping that an extra 1.5 years might have helped improve the liquid. Unfortunately not. The reality is that Billy Walker bought a distillery that was primarily used for blending in 2017. That people would expect the liquid in Glenallachie to magically become a top notch single malt Scotch whisky in a matter of ~4 or 5 years is just not possible, and it shows unfortunately in this new 8 Year Old bottle released to the market (and it was the same for the rest of the lineup we tried this night). The brand ambassador confirmed that this 8 year old is mainly refill Bourbon, then recasked and finished in PX, Oloroso Sherry, Rioja red wine, American virgin oak for about 2.5 years. Why would he need to try that many different casks if not to hide the weak distillate?

Very light on the nose, but very balanced.
Sweet and winey youngster with a lot of wet px and red wine cask influence. I would have prefered a more natural dram of young fresh Glenallachie but it seems the owners under Billy Walker don't trust the distillate made by the old regime too much. Anyways, you still get a clean, fresh cask-driven malt with cola candy, some Pineau associations, raspberries, milk chocolate and some indian curry spices working well together. On the palate it's quite sweet with raspberries, rum raisins, candied figs, plums, brown sugar and old balsamico leading to a medium finish. Money well spent if you're looking for a sherried session starter that pleases almost everybody, but don't look for distillery character...
