[December, 2013] I found this dram in a commercial advents calendar. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 82,5. I took no detailed notes and never bought a commercial advents calender again.

Nose: burnt rubber - but only if you go too close to it or you do not treat it to your 10 minutes in the glass before it disappears. If he gets this time, he shows tender, ripe, delicious smoke with a hint of ham and raspberries, blackcurrants and vanilla. Complex multi-layered wood tones enrich the nose in a way that I no longer want to take my nose away, in between I find cloves, allspice and strong nutmeg and cinnamon. Acid from the wood keeps the balance with honey sweetness. Taste: surprisingly soft, delicate, supple, palate flattering, at first it almost seems too "thin", although it is rather syrupy, sweet, fresh red fruit, spicy with each little sip, oak, sawdust, it becomes stronger and stronger Departing longer and longer after the third sip I'm sure that the 43% rich, very elegant, independent Conclusion: I like the elegance, fruits, spices, great oak flavors all there - great malt, available, affordable - probably. not for every day - I can imagine that polarized but I think it's delicious

no fuss, but a beautiful mature Bowmore. However, I find Laimrig and Darkest more interesting, including the 100 proof. But still a delicious whisky.
On the nose, a dusty, moldy side, with ripe fruits and dry peat. In the mouth, spice, feeling of candied prunes, chocolate with peat present. In the final, it is quite long, but it remains on a dry peat, it lacks freshness and subtlety.

- a gentleman from Bowmore - unfortunately colored ... why do I have to have an 18-year-old whisky to dye ??? I do not get it - very pleasant to drink - for about 70€ it was a really good price for the quality
This is one of my favorit Islay whiskies.
A good representative of the middle-aged Ayla, quite deep and saturated for a commercial fortress, is well balanced. Of the minuses - poor taste and the absence of a certain zest, too much everything is standard.
(Blind tasting 2018) I say at least 16-18 years, ~ 43%, Islay, possibly the infamous 18 year old Lagavulin DE? The perfect balance of smoke and sweetness would speak for it. Definitely very tasty!

A nose of coarse salt, the tide is there, iodine and fish, sea spray, a few rocks, seaweed. But it's quite smooth and well-balanced. The sherry is light, plums, apricots, leather. A hint of smoke. White fruits, raisins. A vinous, earthy side. Floral essences, white rose, primrose. On the palate, salt, peat, iodine, light fruits, mirabelle plums. The finish is pleasant, with oysters and other seafood. Dried banana, sweet olive, almond oil. Stuffed figs, caramel, walnuts. It's frankly good, well-balanced, with notes of iodine and fruit tempered by a delicate peat. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2020/06/bowmore-18-yo.html

Clearly Islay. The pinch of sea and salt are unmistakable. The pleasant smoke of the nose becomes more intense and "extreme" in the taste and finish. The fruitiness of the nose is unfortunately not so intense in the taste. The smoke and the ash in the finish are almost too intense and dominant for me personally.

Not bad Bomo - expected that it would be worse, but hoped for the best. Total - in places it is very similar to the old perfumer Bomo (I mean the old 17-shku), and in the fragrance and taste, at least I'm very interested in this perfume, plus dried fruit, a bit creamy, the only big flaw is so weak and short finish , but in principle it is quite delicate in the good sense of the word. нос 88 · вкус 85 · финиш 78
A slight reddish glow shines from the glass. The aromas are sweet, show distinct sea flavors and salt. In the background allusions of caramel. Above all, an astonishingly restrained peat smoke. In the mouth are sweet fruits, salt, seaweed and peat smoke. An extremely spicy combination. The finish is initially rather inconspicuous then come back with power and bring the peat aroma back. A very nice Islay whisky that does not kill the connoisseur with peat smoke but leaves plenty of room for the other flavors. A very pleasant contemporary.

as a "gentle smoker" I find him really good and better than the highly praised 15y Darkest. Maybe "behind the scenes" a bit thin but that may also be because you are "messed up" more and more by the enjoyment of strong-barreled whiskys. Almost always for 60 €. Brilliant!

Bowmore 18 43% WID: 199 Nose: first ashes, some salt, tobacco, leather, old book, oil, in the background vanilla or caramel. Over time, the ashes disappear. Tobacco and leather remain. A few bitter herbs are coming. After the first sip he is sweeter in the nose. Maybe with prunes. A little vanilla. Chocolate. Later with cool freshness. Taste: clear sweetness. The ashes are back. Plums. Then he gets a little more acidic. Slight biting on the tongue. The sweetness is gaining the upper hand again and then making for some flowery place. Suddenly soap. The soap stays. Finish: Sweet again, but with a taste of soap. Then increasingly spicy, but not peppery. Not too bitter. The flowery soap is omnipresent. With tobacco and ashes the soap stays quite long. Conclusion: I am too soapy in taste and finish.
I have to admit: Having tasted a 21 yo Bowmore from the 90s, nothing I tasted from Bowmore could ever come close ... If you go with the 12 yo or the 12 yo Enigma, you save some money for almost the same quality.
It is one of the whiskies I recommend for someone who wants to begin with peated ones. Because of the sweetness and fruits which makes the peat more "tolerable"!
Good whisky with a fair PLV. A little more alcohol would be great, but okay, can't change that. N - smoke not so dominant, rather restrained in the nose. Nice chocolate flavors with spices. Not particularly versatile, but to the point. M - Delicate start, the little alcohol is mild and very well integrated. The chocolate returns and joins the finish towards the coffee. Few fruit aromas, more spices encased in the biscuit dough.

Smells a bit sour, the peat is clear. No air to get lyrical about. First taste also somewhat sour, is that me? Pepper. The aftertaste is sour and woody - both in taste and in appearance. Some sweet tobacco comes through, farther. That is really nice. The bitterness in the finals destroys all pleasure. No.
Medium smoky on the nose with aromas of honey and bacon, slightly fruity in the background with hints of vanilla. Fruity and sweet in the mouth with slightly bitter notes. In the finish, first cold ash (association with ashtray) then dark chocolate and notes typical of sherry. As the smoke decreases, there is an association with salt. Note 1-

could be one of the great standards if it would be 46% and no chill filtration. as it is, it loses much on impact of taste and texture altough you can feel how oily it once was. seems kinda cold, a little bit watery, frozen or muted due to the low abv and the filtering. however finish and nose are still a pleasure and my enjoyment is groing steadily. i dont regret the buy @70€, but above 80€ i would, just because of the rather weak midpart. ***edit: after two thirds of the bottle is gone im finally in love. in fact i had to order another bottle for the apocaplypse ( ; )and one of the 17yo because the 18yo went down that fast. the whisky has lost a lot of its plastiqe like style now due to the oxidation. another thing is, that it dont only needs desperatley time in the glass (its a beautiful nose then) but also in the mouth. after 15+ seconds on tongue , the first slightly bitter and rather uninteresting somehow soapy oak taste develops into multifaced spicy and sweet notes with a touch of menthol and herbs like sage. it also becomes very oily, although still watery. im even fine with no chill-filtration now. ;-) nice whisky with a good price point (below 70€)considering this an smoky islay whisky of 18 years.

Similar to the aroma smelled by the nose, the mouth first felt the fruity aroma of sherry, then the bitter-sweet chocolate, and finally the smoke officially became the protagonist on the stage. It's a pity that the irritation of alcohol is a bit high, not as supple as it should be in 18 years, but so many aromas are enough to make up for this small shortcoming, no problem! |

FINISH - 19 / 25 The finish is long with sweet, woody, warming smoke with a hint of vanilla and dried fruit compote. BALANCE - 20 / 25 From the original Bowmore sample set. Quite interesting and balanced, but for its age and price it offers little.

Nose An attractive deep brown-amber colour with a definite caramel tint; it starts with a tart ripe fruit and rich black tea sensation, accompanied by some ripe apple, chocolate, and sea salt, then a hint of tobacco and a hint of phenolic notes. Palate A rare chill-filter process on Islay results in an extremely smooth and sweet feel, with salty sea salt smoke, damp earth and some oak, followed by the warmth of spices, some light dried sour fruit and hints of citrus and honey. Finish Med-long; dry and slightly bitter, the mouth is still dominated by smoke and oak woodiness, with some soft and long dried fruit flavours, before slowly sweetening again.
The tasting notes on the bottle weren't lying: smoke, chocolate, and fruit are the dominant aromas, both on the nose and on the palate. Everything is very well interwoven, with each flavor coming through more or less strongly at different times. The 43% ABV is perfectly sufficient. It's not overpowering, but it's not bland either. Moreover, it has a very elegant character for an Islay cigar. Conclusion: Anyone who managed to snag this older bottling for around 70 EUR back then can consider themselves lucky.

I would like that one as cask strength! He's just to conservative with 43% vol
The most balanced from Bowmore core range. Subtle smoky maritime peat surrounded with caramel and roasted nuts flavours

Tastes like what you would expect from eating some soft fruit candy. Reminds you, that you are drinking whisky, with a mild burn. Shallow frame.

Fruit; some fruit-essenced candy, I feel being a bit off of regular winegums. Burns mildly with spice. Oak and salt in the background. Shallow frame. |

Wonderful smell and taste. Very light smoke. Sweet. Almost a syrup. You don't notice the 43%. I don't like to swallow it. For me a perfect, pleasant, ultra smooth whisky. After the first sip, it smells even more pleasant, the smoke now gets through more. Old ham. Not fresh like Talisker. Old leather. Complex and balanced. The finish is so soft. I love this whisky!
Was a little disappointed with this 18yo. It's not a bad whisky but I feel like it did not deliver especially on the taste. This is still a good whisky, but not great, just decent. Considering the price, I would opt for the Bowmore 15yo instead.
Medium-dark amber colour. Fresh, vineous and somewhat maritime aroma. Slight prickle, fresh pears, crushed white peppers, leather, paper glue and slight aniseed. Some peat evident but hardly any smoke. Water seems to bring the fruity aromas forward more. Light-medium bodied palate, predominantly sweet, slightly mossy, lightly peated swallow and medium-long finish.
wee bit bland, the low abv doesn't help at all. Dried red fruits, coastal notes, salty peat, dark chocolate, overripe grapefruit, a little bit dusty, very mild aromas, a decent dram but I would not replace the bottle I have
