The mouthfeel is a bit thin but otherwise it is quite easy drinkable despite the rather strong peat and smoke

Tastes like a sherried Laphroaig, integration of sherry and peat is well balanced, peat is quite muted though, nicely drinkable

https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2023/06/04/salut-mr-foster/ C: Laphroaig, probably, with – I surmise – a little Ardbeg thrown in and just a drop or two of Lagavulin and/or Caol Ila. Or, none of the above,… it’s Kilchoman! Kidding. In short, this undisclosed single malt doesn’t quite fit into any of the usual Islay boxes which is one appeal. It’s also eminently warm and drinkable albeit with soft wet feet. That said, I question whether I’d be happy with a bottle for £35 or whether I’d look elsewhere. After all, competition is fierce at this price point. Interestingly, the French get a better deal from Lidl. In Limoges right now, there’s an 18 years for €31.99 or a 19yo – on offer – for just €28.79.
Laphroaig (not medical enough), Ardbeg (availability) and Kilchoman (age) can be ruled out. If it should be a Bowmore, it would be a very smoky and unusual one (but there is also one). The light farm or stable note reminds me of peated laddies and / or bunnahabhains (although I have no idea whether the former gave up barrels or distillate or how the latter turned out at that age). In terms of sweetness, it could well be a dirty - so also rather unusual - Lagavulin, or just a Caol Ila, which is probably the most likely. No matter how you decide the guesswork: very tasty, tasty and round, and definitely more than okay for the money. Edit: after trying several times, I type on Lagavulin, and increase from 85 to 86 points. A real bargain for the quality.

SMOKER, with a good age, but no "skimming" does not have to be for the price either.

Campfire by the sea - warm smoke and a pinch of salt, again slightly medicinal, vanilla and lemon cake with a sweet glaze, some menthol and green wood (fresh broken branches) |

In the mouth first of all medicinal smoke, a lot of wood, black pepper, vanilla, malty sweetness towards the finish, a lot of warmth from the smoke and the lemon cake |

The finish is a mixture of peppery wood, sugared lemon and ashy smoke - relatively long for 43% |
Powerful, strong, but not a peat monster, rather a well-behaved, yet unshaven Lagavulin teenie - a very sympathetic malt, especially at that price (just consider how prices for the standard 16yo Lagavulin have soared over the last years). And if you want to get an idea of what Lagavulin used to taste like in the 1990s, buy this one and experience the Islay campfire!

The first time I was surprised by this (Ben Bracken 12, 10, 8) whisky was the day when my nose and palate became acquainted with it. Surprise for a big plus. I was convinced that each version of this drink would be nice to me. Unfortunately, the 32YO version was very pale for me, despite the highest price of all BBs. Today I'm "debuting" in my BB 16 YO taste buds and I have to say that this debut was amazing! The smell, taste and general impression are at an excellent level. I don't know why, but BB16 reminds me of Lagavulin. I like it. The price-quality ratio surpasses some much more expensive items. I only drank a sample, now I have to hunt down the whole bottle .... Absolutely !!!
