В аромате — вереск, ваниль, мёд, садовые и жёлтые фрукты, цитрус и апельсиновая цедра, немного трав, сена и пряностей, лёгкий налёт табака и деликатный торфяной дымок; влияние винной бочки заметно, но большинство опытных отмечает, что оно не преувеличено. Во вкусе кремовая, маслянистая текстура, ваниль, мёд, жёлтые фрукты (груша, банан), перец, имбирь и апельсин; послевкусие долгое, тёплое, пряное, к концу подсушивающее с лёгкой горчинкой. Хвалят питкость, баланс, интегрированный алкоголь и то, что херес/вино не задавливают дистиллятный характер; критикуют неожиданно тонкое тело, острые бочковые дубильные вещества и местами утраченный фирменный характер вискокурни, а также подсушенную, горьковатую середину. Опытные ревьюеры сходятся плотно (85–88), воспринимая розлив как приятный и сбалансированный, с уместной работой винной бочки. Среди менее авторитетных разброс шире: от 83 с жалобами на водянистость и торчащие дубильные вещества до 92 с восторгом от маслянистого тела, мощи и долгого «онемляющего» послевкусия. Один развёрнутый скептический отзыв (84) находит профиль сдержанным и переусложнённым ежевикой, крыжовником и лакрицей при подсушивающей середине. Общая согласованность средняя: центр тяжести — крепкие 85–86, но края расходятся по восприятию тела и дымности.

Powerful but balanced, the alcohol is well integrated, fruity notes and goo mouthfeel, very drinkable - not bad

Pleasant dram, with some fruity and grassy elements and the winecask does it's job.
Нос 85 Light fruity and grassy, hay. Orangezest, and some winecask influence is present. Not much alcohol in the nose.
Вкус 85 Now a slight hint of peat, some peppers, oranges, honey and some grassy notes, hay.
Финиш 84 Still some pepper remaining, wine influence, some orange and honey again. Middle long. Then it's getting a bit drying and some bitterness comes in.

Pleasant HP, wine is not exaggerated, I think it's a bit better than the same age Wings of the Eagle. 85/86.

Nice HP, a rare occasion for me to get the distillery right in a blind tasting. I really get a nice heather and smoke aroma.

Rioja Twisted Tattoo? Seriously? What’s that all about? Anyway, the interesting thing about this HP is the fact that it matured on a combination of bourbon casks and Rioja wine casks. La Rioja is a wine region in northern Spain that takes its name from the Rio Oja. Tempranillo is the most commonly used blue grape for their red wines. As far as I know, this is the first time HP uses this type of cask. Well, the bourbon casks have clearly put their foot down. I get the typical notes of grain cookies, coconut, citrus and apples. This is joined by heather – typical HP – and a touch of woodsmoke. Smoky? Nope. After a few minutes I do get some blackberries and some toffee apples. Quite underwhelming, actually. It is nicely creamy and sweet, but it surprises me with its flavor profile. The typical HP notes are somewhat subdued due to the blackberries and gooseberries, bitter oranges and something that reminds me of liquorice. The peat now does kick in and makes for a nice smokiness. Midpalate, it turns very dry, though. The finish is long and drying. Well, this is not my favorite Highland Park, I must say. Does little for me. Around 90 EUR, which can hardly be called cheap.

Very nice and polished nose, but weirdly thin with spiky barrique tannins on the tongue and lacking almost any discernible HP character.

highland park twisted tattoo 16y VS highland park 18y (bottled 2014). i started putting both in a glencairn for about half an hour before starting this review. i must say that the twisted tattoo won this round, which i did not expect. both were amazing but the 16y twisted tattoo just blew me away. it does not happen often, that i find the taste even better than a very good nose. it is not that i did not like the 18y, but the 16y was just better. before this battle happened i only knew the 12y and some travel retail stuff from hp and wasnt a big fan but with this tasting this changed!
Нос 91 very fresh for a hp, i dont get the typical heather, rather creamy bready notes with fruit. this is hp? still, while not showing typical hp character i find the nose charming. there is a lot of vanilla, rich and round. topped with some fruits and cream. the first filled bourbon casks are strong here, but also the rioja is there but more subtle. the peat is very gentle and hides in the background. pleasant nose. ok, when comparing both drams i do get some heather on this one, but since the cask influence is strong here it plays in the background.
Вкус 93 oily mouthfeel, wow. this is beautiful. it does not happen often, that i give the taste more points than the nose but this is amazing. fresh and crisp. the fruits are not there. more some sulfury and rubbery notes. very earthy. so much power! ginger.
Финиш 92 numbing and fizzy. very long. such a long and numbing finish i normaly get from cask strengths. this is something!
