Nose and taste are falling apart. In the nose, he has an almost penetrating to be called fruit sweetness, which is not to be found on the tongue at all. Once you have taken a sip, the nose also changes, because the previously perceived as almost obtrusive sweetness has disappeared. Instead, beautiful spicy and salty notes come with only subtle sweetness. Overall varied, mature and relatively harmonious. (Blind tasting)
Mainly sherry but there's also a bourbon influence, especially in the taste. It's OK but I rather spend my money on the cask strength editions which give more value for money. 85/86.
Aroma: fruity, grapes, raisins Taste: soft and round, light sherry, light burning only after swallowing, pleasant warmth, long lasting Even though Ralphy rates him high, he was nice to me, but not one I'll remember for long ...
https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2017/08/18/on-location-glengoyne/ I had this last year and liked it [85]. Made up of 50% refill and 50% first fill casks [a mix of types]. N: Quite a bit darker than the 17yo. Notes of caramel, mocha, Chai spices, fusty-sweet hessian, popadoms, dry fruity maltiness, ripe/drying pineapple=mango,…. help yourself. T: Dark/oaky bitter<savoury=sweet, all brought-on by that fundamental cask-mix use [see pic above], coupled with a long [slow?] maturation. Compared to the 17yo, richer/creamier caramel/fudge notes. Getting water involved brings out again more bourbon action than expected – what is the sherry ratio at Glengoyne? Hangs onto a soft-dry, waxy, fusty, barley-mash into the finish. F: Milky, ‘shroomy’, mature woody finish. Aged just right. C: Really works a treat this 18yo, which is why not much has changed with the recipe over the years [so im told]. In this modern climate of NAS & finishes galore, heres a rare example of a traditional malt where style & quality have been maintained.Scores a B
1650) Glengoyne, 18YO (circa 2016) My first GGy18YO were on 24th December 2016, it was a 2013 releases. A good 5 years past, various batches come and go in between but have not got the urge to try any of those. Until Chris Yeo shared one of the 2016 batch with me, and here it goes.

A great, mature, ex-sherry malt.
Tasty and nicely balanced sweet-spicy malt. Well balanced and very pleasant to drink. The spice in the mouth and finish work well as a tension element to the otherwise quite soft character. A good all-day whisky. In principle, it would be worth a bottle to me between 60-70 euros, although in the end I would rather prefer the GG 21J. (Rating: 0)

COLOUR: amber (OFS/KG) - a super single malt with a very deep character - very complex and beautifully aged and fruity - is very similar to the Aberlour 18 (however, the smell is weaker, but slightly more intense in taste) - but significantly better than the Glengoyne 17 J. (better cask selection and rather sweeter than drier Sherry) - at around €80 for an 18-year-old single malt and the existing one Highly recommended quality
So either he is very young, or the bitterness comes from the fact that the refill barrels are already ancient, however, can not convince me. The nose is neither harmonious nor exciting, the taste is OK, the overall picture in the taste is at least consistent, the finish is then a bit too bitter. Notes from a blind tasting. Now I know why we had taken the 21-year-old Glengoyne at an 18-year Sherry Vergleichstasting, this one would not have had the slightest chance.
A great, noble and mature Highland Malt - very pleasant! [Color] amber;

Serge says: Colour: full gold. Nose: less talkative than the 15, kind of shy for a while and curiously grassier and leafier. Quite some tea, banana skin, orange cake and lastly, apple peels. So yes, it’s very nice but I liked the nose of the 15 better (just like with the Glendronach 15 and 18). Mouth: yes, I definitely mile the 15 better, although both are closer together on your palate. This time we have rather more pepper and other dry and even drying spices (big nutmeg, even bigger cinnamon), then quite some cocoa powder and a leafiness that may be a notch dissonant in this context. More and more pepper. Finish: very long (really, how do they do that?) and pretty tannic and dry. The aftertaste is very peppery again. Comments: as I said, the 15 anytime, and I’m even wondering whether I don’t even like the very nice 12 a little better. Nah, let’s not exaggerate. SGP:461 - 84 points.
Very rich nose, on Christmas cake, gingerbread, dark chocolate. Brown sugar, which dissolves in coffee. Pudding with Smyrna raisins. Morello cherries. Cinnamon. Coriander. Crumble, baked apples. Vanilla dash, pastry cream. Monstrous mouth of balance, sweetness at first, then the spices rise. Candy to suck, soft chocolate, religieuse. It feels like you're in a bakery. Long and very woody finish, on fruits, prunes, damsons, red apples. Kahlùa. Very friendly, warm and convivial. To be enjoyed by the fire on an evening when it's snowing outside. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2021/10/glengoyne-18-yo.html

This Glengoyne I had some time ago as a blindsample in the glass. The basic notes and basic impressions are the same, with me the Glengoyne tastes a little better today. Let me just quote my comment on the blind tasting: "The nose is extremely fruity and complex, intense mint leaves the otherwise fruity nose pleasantly fresh." This sample is dominated by dry and tart wood tones, the finish is also wooden and eternally long Again, the nose was the dominating element for me in this malt .... I found this malt complex and quite interesting. The slight baseline has harmonized well with the other components. " 22/22/21/21

S 8 Oaky and dried fruit. Personally think this can best represent Glengoyne’s characters on balancing that Sherry touch with its citrusy & bourbon cask-driven notes. N 26 Vanilla ice cream. Creamy Sherry nose (sultana, dried fruit). Honey hiding behind with some unaggressive menthol. Time unveils more citrusy, soft spices, and caramel. P 27 Sherry & spicy is the main theme. Starts with some figs and espresso beans. Creamy, mouthwatering dried fruit. Malty, oaky, smoothened oak spices & winter spices then slowly dominated the palate. Some menthol to wrap up when swallowed. F 25 Mid finish. Oak spices driven. Oaky & fruity lingering. Mild spices too but almost neglectable.

Quite a nice dram, if you have a sweet tooth. The spice provides a nice contrast to the sweeter notes. Could do with a bit more depth or complexity, but still a very decent dram.
Not bad - but not too special. The 18 years you notice him; He is well matured and with a little more power and complexity would have become a really delicious whisky from him. Better than the 10-year-old, but not approaching the 21-year-old ran.
This is beautiful, full bodied dram. Biscuity, sticky, like melted good quality porridge with honey sorta like, complex nose, delicious dram. I keep this one open and only drink it on special occasions. It is like coming back to a friend... good old friend
A nice balanced pour, slight sweet, spice, oak, fruit all working together.
if the nose appears more massive and intrusive sweet with artificial sweetness, the mouth is fresher and very pleasant, balanced and harmonious, the finish takes over the theme from the mouth well, but then has the typical Glen bitterness which stands isolated, in addition to the other notes and stays longer
Maltstock 2017Rich, dried fruit, chocolate and in combination with red apple very tasty, apfelstrüdel
The ending note was a bit weak, but everything else was good.

Taste: Tobacco, leather but a bit peppery at first. Then there is a lot of good and well sherry matured whisky notes. Body: Full, could be more oily though Finish: Medium-long lenght. Again these nice leather and chocolate nose. This one will do very well with a chocolate pairing. Price: If found under €80,- it should be worth considering. Plum, petrol, durian, peach, grassy, green grape, vanilla "A nose reminiscent of Riesling" There’s no sharp hit of alcohol—this is a very stable aroma. Ripe plum and petrol-like notes dominate at first. Then comes a light fruitiness like peach, mixing with the oily petrol nuance to create something vaguely reminiscent of durian. Overall, it gives off the impression of a slightly heavy bourbon cask style. |

Petrol, fish oil, coal, leather, mushy apple, chocolate "Fishy, bitter, and broken balance" Honestly, I don’t want to drink this. It has an oily, unappetizing character, with fish oil fishiness, coal-like smokiness, the bitterness of leather, and even a rotting apple-like off-note. I immediately want to rinse my mouth. If I had to say something positive—there’s a fleeting flash of chocolatey sweetness that lasts all of 0.1 seconds. If this is an official bottling, the master distiller should seriously be questioned. |

Pleasant but maybe not more;
It starts with a nice nose, the sweetness surprised and let me spontaneously think of rum, sherry is the dominant note, but still leaves room for further. In the mouth, the sweetness goes back a bit, I no longer think of PX Sherry, as during the smell, but rather Oloroso. The finish is a nice mix of the impressions of the mouth and nose. A solid, good sherry whisky without surprises or mistakes. The impression is very different from that of two years ago, at that time I gave 83 points in a blind tasting, now I award 87 points.
Lacks complexity and leans too heavily on the sherry influence in my opinion. Some more input from the distillery character might have helped.

Quality stuff as expected with a Glengoyne of this age. Very rich and intense. Lovely flavor profile. (Rating interval 86-89)
Glengoyne 18yo. Sample bottled by RGWC, consumed Nov 2021. The samples I've tried from them in the past have been super dodgy, so let’s see how this one is. Golden orange . Aroma is ‘meaty’, slightly sulphured sherry cask, also some lemon and ginger. Mostly meaty though. Ultimately that seems to be the impression from the cask- I don’t think the re-bottler can be blamed. Taste is watery and low impact, becoming saltier on the swallow. Very simple, not too much going on. The old oak is slightly chocolatey. Vaguely tart, salty and chilli-ish in the finish like the lime chilli that is served with poppadoms. Chocolatey linger. Below average on this showing. 3.1/74
This single malt is characterized by a generous, slow development; it is always lively, fiery, youthful and mature alike. Good price-performance ratio! Tasting with FineSpirits_butler1.
In the glass, the glowing gold is covered by a sting in reddish. The aroma is a great combination of sweet fruits, sherry flavors and on the other hand chocolate and toffee, some coconut and a hint of leather. The taste is very complex. First of all he is sweet, then vanilla and chocolate notes are added. After a moment, a surprising liveliness is added. In the background a reminder of cereal. The finish is very mild, slightly dry with a light fruitiness. This Glengoyne is developing very nicely, the emerging spit is surprising. A whisky, which demands attention and the bon vivant but also rewarded.
The 18 he Glengoyne, unfortunately failed with me. I still have the 17 and 21 unopened in the closet, I hope they are better. In the blind tasting typed as NAS

I haven't had such a nose full of sherry and above all this great sherry influence in the mouth, which remains in the finish until the bitter end. Surprisingly little oak for 18 years, or no noticeable bitterness.
Delicious, smooth sherry malt with a well-behaved character. Sour to ripe, sweet fruit, a lot of dessert aromas and a little herbal spice and barrel spice. Round, balanced thing, fills its niche nicely for me. "Only" 43%, but I'm not missing any power here. Mouth feel is great. 88/100, almost 89.
Overall, a fairly soft and round sherry malt, definitely not a wet or very active barrel. The body is medium heavy and the finish quite long and astringent. He tastes pretty good and in the right mood a nice drop but not a high flyer. I miss a little the special and exciting. From me there's therefore 85 pts.

. Fruit, spices, oak 2 + 3rd velvety dark dried fruit comes from the glass with dates and raisins, in between but also lighter fruit. Spices of gingerbread, cinnamon and Zinnamom are also there, only a little later Develops a little flavor from the barrel but rather a bit earthy and absolutely no trace of tannins. The alcohol only makes it look a little fresher but is by no means pungent let alone superficial. The whole thing becomes a bit more acidic over time and the fruit turns into white currants. Here and there maybe a trace of marzipan 4. For me it looks very balanced and well balanced in the nose |

First of all: pure this malt loses a lot of its potential, it looks young, closed, simple and alcoholic, so the following refers to the addition of water, which opens up enormously. On the nose, sweet honey with a little vanilla and fruity like ripe apples and dried fruit, after a while ripe banana. Behind it some freshly polished wood. In addition, a little cooling with a small addition of water. Round, sherry-fruity and slightly spicy in the mouth. In the finish a lot of oak in the form of coffee notes and dark sherry fruit (intense raisin). Unfortunately not very complex anymore. Length: 4/10 Very barrel-heavy sherry representative, for fans of spicy malts. Grade: 2+
A wonderful whisky with an absolutely outstanding price / performance ratio. The well-selected sherry casks play with the fruity, apple-flavored character of Glengoyne, but never cover it. An art that Glengoyne has perfected.
All in all, a solid combination of bourbon and sherry barrels, which do not overlay the malt. Delicious, easy, good drinking strength, but the taste and finish of the oak is a bit too bitter for me to really please.

You immediately notice that sherry barrels were involved here, but also that it is a combination of bourbon and sherry barrels. The bourbon barrels deliver beautiful vanilla and honey aromas, accompanied by rather light, fruity notes of apples and pears. There are also classic sherry notes such as raisins, dates and minimal leather. Not a sherry monster, but rather elegantly woven. |

Beautiful, round Dram, which has more of a refill Sherrykarakter for me, and so is the distillate already to advantage. However, it is also very interchangeable, and could use a little more alcohol. Other comparable 18s like Glenlivets 18 or Tomatin 18 I like much better.

Glengoyne 18 year ABV:43% Cask: Bourbon + Sherry
Yes, the Glengoyne 18: a story full of ups and downs. At least for me personally. We divided the 18 in our whisky community. He sparked excitement in me. An 18-year-old that is still available at a reasonable price and promises a high level of quality. The basic data is simply right here. You have to say that! that with the new series the prices were (of course) adjusted. Would I still buy it today for 100 + euros? I dont know! Nonetheless, I used up my share of the bottle pretty quickly. I tested it on Mortlach 16 Distiller'sDram, various Glendronachs, Glenallachies, Edradours and Dailuaine 16 f&f. The Glengoyne did amazingly well! Here now looks with the new edition, I do not know, I will not try it either. In any case, my first impression was good to very good. That means in the points region 85 to 90. Then my bottle share was Lea. And I didn't bother with him anymore. Until it was served to me blind in a very nice tasting. Unfortunately, that was catastrophic. The rich spiciness only seemed bitter to me, the beautifully balanced, round profile was immature and much too edgy. After that I wrote him off. Which turned out to be a mistake after I got it back in the form of a temple so I could compare it to the 21 Glengoyne. So I've decided to write this review. he was great In the following I refer to the last impressions of this tasting.
Nose - Clean, fresh fruit, ginger, malty, orange peel, vanilla, watermelon juicy , candy, wafers and over ripe fruit. Lovely complex nose, very dimensional and can still detect the spirit character, remind me of the Tamdhu spirit, strangely enough. Taste - spirit, wood, spice, cloves, slight dark chocolate and maple. Finish - Mouth coating, medium long, slight juicy, dry tropical fruit, apple peal and spice. Comment - Top marks for the nose. A touch of water opens the flavour in the mouth and reduces the spicy note. Some more sherry please, very affordable for a 18 and full body. Glengoyne is special to me, so rating this is hard.

It takes a little time to open up, initially it is reserved on the nose. The alcohol is barely noticeable. Fine sweetness, the sherry influence is well dosed, not a sherry bomb. Hint of dark fruit, slightly lighter blackberry, but also slightly citric. Only after some time does the honey sweetness become more noticeable, and it also becomes more mineral. The 18 years are more noticeable in the mouth than in the nose, here you can notice the influence of wood, although not in the form of deep dark chocolate, rather light. The finish is a bit short. The dram is pleasant, fine, but lacks a bit of depth of taste, 3-4% alcohol would not have hurt. A "typical" Glengoyne, mild, fine, balanced, the whisky is not overwhelming. But it also lacks that certain something.
