Зрелый, элегантный Ardbeg с приглушённым торфом и деликатным хересом; опытные хвалят баланс аромата, но сходятся с остальными в главной претензии — слишком сглажен и не хватает мощи за свою цену.

В аромате виски раскрывается сразу при наливании: густой дымный торф с оттенком фруктовой древесины, землистые и хересные ноты, кожа, тёмные фрукты (малина, смородина), лакрица, анис, копчёный бекон, обугленное дерево, морская соль и ваниль; с проветриванием становится сливочным и уравновешенным, проступают изюм и абрикос. Вкус маслянистый и полнотелый, сливочный и сладкий, с чёрным перцем, копчёностью, смолой, красными фруктами и мёдом, но торф на языке приглушён по сравнению с ароматом. Послевкусие средней и большой длины, дымно-пепельное, солоновато-морское, с горчинкой цитрусовой цедры, дубом и развивающейся сладостью.
Опытные ревьюеры ценят прежде всего аромат и тонкий баланс торфа с хересом (примерно 70 на 30 в пользу торфа), отмечая заметную зрелость после 21 года в бочке, но нередко разочарованы продолжением: вкус обрывается слишком резко, торф теряется, а виски выходит чересчур воспитанным и гладким. Эта претензия — «вкусно, но скучно», элегантность вместо огня, «птица в золотой клетке» — сквозная и у опытных, и у остальных, и именно из-за неё высокие ожидания от аромата (около 90) снижаются во вкусе; отдельные авторы ловят посторонние ноты (сера, привкус «испорченной ветчины»). Оценки при этом плотно сгруппированы в диапазоне 85–92 с центром около 89, расхождений в цифрах почти нет — расходятся лишь в том, считать ли сдержанность достоинством или упущенной мощью, особенно с учётом высокой цены.

The nose promises a nice hit of peat, but the dram itself is quite refined to the point where I'm a little disappointed - I can almost still taste a Lord of the Isles bottle even though it's long since gone. Well worth trying nonetheless.

Beautiful deep copper/brown colour, little whisky clings to the glass. Side by side with the Y2K, or the 23-year-old Ardbeg aged in sherry casks. Most likely refill casks judging by the colour and evident in the aroma and taste.
The first time I tried it, the whisky wasn't very worthy of its €400 price tag. A month later, with a lot of air in the bottle, it's become such a beast. I upgraded from 89 to 90.5. The only criticism I can make is that it requires a rather large sip and is far too smooth for a €400 whisky. Very good!

The nose is amazing! Phenomenal and I expected to end up around 90 points. But there is an off-note in the whisky on the palate and the finish. After thinking about it for a while I knew what it reminded me of… rotten ham…
A beautifully mature Ardbeg, soft, silky, and expressive; although it seemed a bit reserved to me at first. I liked it better the second time I tasted it, with some distance. But one sample is certainly not enough for a meaningful review - April 5, 2025

A caged whisky Refined and elegant, but confined. Like a bird raised with care inside a golden cage, never knowing what it’s like to fly.

A gentle Ardbeg, subdued by years in cask removing the punchy younger siblilings power with gentle elegance. Lovely nose, Soft peat rather than younger Ardbeg, more smouldering than explosive, Sea spray and Vanilla. On the Palate I get a oily texture, smoke is gentle : charcoal, ash, and sweet peat rather than raw bonfire, Citrus oils : orange , honeyed malt and subtle toffee, Gentle medicinal edge rather than sharp phenolic punch. On the Finish it’s Long, drying coastal smoke, Slight pepper, sea salt, and burnt citrus peel,Lingering sweet ash and oak spice Ardbeg aged elegance malt where peat is more subdued after 21 years in cask. This is , well not my go to preference Ardbeg which lacks the fiery punchy peaty flavours I’m used to in other Ardbegs. Unfortunately a forgettable experience for me.

A delight! Great Ardbeg smoke, a subtle sherry note, and oily/creamy/fatty BBQ bacon, all at the perfect drinking strength. It's not cheap, but for a special occasion, you won't regret opening this bottle.
