Молодой немецкий торфяной виски в хересных бочках: костровой дым поверх сухофруктов и хереса. Опытные оценивают ровно, но невыдержанность и «прогорклые» ноты раскалывают мнения от неприятия до восторга.

В аромате — дым костра и жжёного каррамельного сахара, сухофрукты, изюм, финики, табак, ваниль, кожа, лёгкая цитрусовость и хересная сладость; у части дегустаторов проступают «прогорклые» дефекты — сера, подгнившие фрукты, машинное масло, копчёный окорок, которые уходят при добавлении воды. Во вкусе сладкое начало сменяется нарастающим торфяным дымом, к нему добавляются тёмные ягоды, шоколад, лакрица, пряности (перец, гвоздика), табак и заметная невыдержанностью металлическая, слегка несбалансированная горчинка. Послевкусие короткое-среднее, дымное, пряное, дубовое, с горчинкой; хвалят яркий дым, фруктово-хересную гармонию и потенциал, критикуют молодость (три года), цену и «непопадания» во вкусе. Мнения расходятся сильно: диапазон оценок от 71 до 93. Скептики называют виски перехайпленным, с жжёными, маслянистыми, «неправильными» тонами и жареными нотами; энтузиасты сравнивают его с Ledaig и Kilchoman Sanaig, отмечая сложность, филигранный дым, лакрицу и достойную цену. Опытные ревьюеры держатся сдержанно-ровного центра (78–85), тогда как крайние восторги и полное неприятие идут в основном от менее авторитетных авторов; общий консенсус — добротный, но откровенно молодой торфяно-хересный виски, которому не хватило пары-тройки лет выдержки, зато виден потенциал винокурни.

Despite the slightly off notes when neat, I think I like it better than the Signature Edition 3. The sherry (Oloroso and PX) casks maybe work better with St. Kilian’s peated spirit when it’s bottled young. There’s potential here as well, and you have to remember that those two expressions use spirit distilled the year after the distillery was founded, so I guess they were still trying to find they way, and will probably do for quite some time, you can’t get everything right on the first try. But though I would not hurry to buy a bottle of this Signature Edition 4, I’m still curious to see how it would be with a few more years under its belt.
Нос 79 Neat: Sweet peat, dried fruits, something between hints of sulphur or rotting fruits, mechanical grease, olive oil. With water: the off-notes disappeared. Smoked ham.
Вкус 83 Neat: Sweet arrival, then slight citrusy sourness. The peat slowly grows in strength with campfire smoke. There are some dark berries, dark chocolate, hints of anise, unlit cigar, and some wood spices and bitterness. Herbal notes, and something slightly off on the palate as well. With water: slightly sweeter. As on the nose, water removes the off-notes. More chocolate, like chocolate mousse.

Heavily hyped (far over hyped) German whisky from the overvalued St. Kilian distillery. For me a clear proof that the way for many German whiskys is still very far ....
Нос 75 Burnt, out of round, faulty, greasy and oily
Вкус 67 Fried potatoes, roasted aromas, violent off-flavors (reminds me, like the floki, of malt smoked with sheep's manure), very difficult
Финиш 71 Medium length, luckily much less difficult and wrong than the taste, spicy but not many other flavors

A very neat, strong and clearly smoky representative of the distillery. Looks like an 8-9 year old Ledaig. The sherry influences are there, but it is dominated by smoke.

Smoky-fruity whisky. The low age is noticeable. You should expect better for the price.
Нос 83 Fireplace smoke, light fruits and dried fruit behind. Burnt caramel. Leather, vanilla and tobacco.
Вкус 79 Peat smoke combined with light, fruity notes. In addition caramel. Somewhat metallic and unbalanced (due to the small age).
Финиш 75 This metallic aftertaste on the finish, which I don't like. Sizzling on the tip of the tongue. The smoke remains.

I must be in the mood for that one. I don't think it's bad, but the bitterness spoiled my enjoyment a bit, but I really liked the nose.

Great smoky malt that unfortunately can't hide its youth despite the smoke. Despite the sherry being fully matured, the smoke dominates. At 5 or 7 years old he would certainly be a level better, so it is just an indication of the potential that St. Kilian can still develop in the future.

Tasted with enthusiastic Peat Heads over a period of 7 months Natural Color: Golden-yellow-slightly bronzed, rich, inviting color. At first it took a lot of time and 20gtt of water. Then ham campfire smoke with sherry - very impressive. Quite complex with dried fruit, citrus, sea breeze, chocolate, ripe apples, apricot. One of the tastiest Peat W. of the last few months. Later very tasty peat-sherry-fruit-W. with licorice, which became increasingly finer. At the end, filigree campfire and ham peat with lots of sweet licorice and vanilla +++ now in the foreground, sherry and fruits less, but still very tasty. Water doesn't help anymore. Medium-long finish, becoming spicier. Overall excellent and worth the price

That was my fifth St. Kilian so far and I have to say there was nothing bad about it so far. St. Kilian is definitely worth trying.

It's really good for the three years. You can tell that the malt is not very old, but I would have given it more than three years. The smoke from the campfire and the sweet-fruity sherry aromas harmonize very well.

I really like the nose. But then it becomes rather out of round. There is something delicious in the mouth and in the finish - but also some off-notes.

This is best compared to a Kilchoman Sanaig (gave it 93 points). Very similar in taste profile and price but this is a bit more fruity perhaps. The smoke is not overwhelming and dominating as is the St. Kilian Bud Spencer.
Нос 93 Very round, excellent smoky notes and hints of wine. The nose changes quite a bit over 5-10 minutes going from wine to caramel to apples!
Вкус 94 A little sharper than the Kilian Bud Spencer but also more complex. Some much clearer fruit.
Финиш 92 Nice smoke and wine notes. Some notes of liquorice.

Wow, it starts off interestingly: marzipan, tobacco, caramel, gingerbread, nuts, mushy, overripe apples and some burnt spices. Overall sweet and spicy, I like it. Very round and viscous in the mouth for the young age, still sweet and spicy. In the finish there is a surge of smoke, ash and wood spice. Behind it, dried fruits and a slight maritime note that I did not expect. Length: 5/10 Great German whisky, the best St. Kilian I've had so far. I would have located it blindly on a Scottish island. Still could have taken 1-2 years. Grade: 2

Color gold Viscosity: oily Dram: undiluted and diluted Conclusion: So far the best St. Killian in my opinion. A great fruitiness paired with a clear smoke. Of course he is young and you can tell that too, but you can see a lot of potential and a certain complexity is also recognizable through the smoke. Great barrel selection and the alcohol content is just right in my opinion. We can look forward to future bottlings. My rating system: 100-95: Exceptional whiskys 80-94: top whisky 50-79: standard whisky 0-49: flops
