В аромате мягкая сладость — ваниль, мёд, жёлтые фрукты (груша, лимон, цитрусы), запечённый ананас, вереск и лёгкий дым; многие отмечают морскую солоноватость и травяные, цветочные ноты, а также то, что напиток раскрывается не сразу и охотнее с каплей воды. Вкус кремовый и насыщенный при удачном балансе сладкого и кислого: ваниль, карамель, груша, цитрусы, мёд, орехи, дубовая пряность с перцем и характерной имбирной остринкой, дым присутствует лишь деликатным намёком; спирт при 52,9% интегрирован хорошо. Послевкусие среднее по длине, пряно-сладкое, слегка сушащее, у части дегустаторов с горчинкой дуба и землистыми, зольными тонами. Хвалят за чистоту, сложность, кремовую текстуру и типичный для Highland Park профиль бурбонной выдержки; критикуют прежде всего цену — почти единодушно её называют многократно завышенной, указывая, что за половину денег доступны равные или лучшие бурбонные образцы (в том числе Full Volume 1999/2017). If I would be looking for a typical HP I would point to this one - in particular on the palate the mix of fine smoke, leather and saltiness is exactly that - great!

Nothing wrong with it but I found it too light for my palate but there were some decent flavours in the mix. The Dark is much better flavours wise.

A very nice expression of a bourbon matured HP. Too bad about the price, it's not €200 nice.
Нос 87 Gentle and appealing. Fresh, citric, yellow fruit. Vanilla oak and light heather smoke.
Вкус 89 It arrives sweet before the boldness of the ABV kick in. Well in tune with the nose. Warming spice.
Финиш 88 Good lenght. Neat it is warming and a little drying.

Light A little over a year ago I tried the Highland Park 17 Year Old The Dark, which had matured on sherry casks and was supposed to represent autumn. I felt it tasted great, but was too expensive. More than 200 EUR for a 17 years old malt is just not right, I think. The counterpart – The Light, to represent the summer – is also 17 years old and bottled at the same 52.9% (so not cask strength) and 28.000 bottles strong. It matured on refill American oak. The price is the same. I hope the quality is as well. The nose is soft and sweet on vanilla and roasted pineapple. Lots of heather, soft smoke and a bouquet of wild flowers. Reine Claude plums and pear juice, lemon and lime sherbet. Honey and mint. Pebbles on the beach. A summery shower. I daresay this is complex. Great creamy mouthfeel. Vanilla custard and lemon juice go hand in hand with pepper, liquorice and candied ginger. Evolves from fruity and sweet towards brackish and it works like a magical spell. Walnuts and almonds, honey and pears and lots of spices from the oak. Yes, this is complex. In fact, this is magnificent! The finish is medium long, nicely piquant and smoky with delicate citrus and lots of vanilla. Damn. Fair is fair. This is an outstanding Highland Park!

Creamy, vanilla-fruity (fresh fruit, ripe yellow apples), lemon-honey, spicy oak, peat smoke. But it takes a bit more time to open up the flavor (as does GM's 1999 HP bourbon). The taste is rich, chewy, spicy-sweet, oak, lemon, menthol, apples with honey. Sour-spicy, medium finish. 22-22.5-21.5-22

Ultra clean, bright and straight. I usually prefer sherry-matured HPs, but this is not half bad. Pity it's too expensive. Classic example of a good bottling that suffocates under the weight of its hyped-up presentation and inflated pricing.
Нос 87 Hayfields in the summer heat, salted butter, freshly baked croissants, ripe apricots, garden herbs, and a soft maritime / briny side with very well integrated, heathery peat smoke. A pretty, and yes: summery assemblage.
Вкус 89 Very full and rich, mouth-wateringly juicy and with perfect balance between sweet and sour. There is even a lovely late burst of orchard fruits, just when you think that the oak is about to take over. Pear crumble? A bit of spice at the end from the wood. Doesn't need water, no burn, the strength works perfectly well.
Финиш 87 Medium at best, but absolutely inoffensive, with a lot of lingering sweetness.

A successful bourbon barrel maturation. Nice sweet and fruity notes with a peppery spice and ginger spiciness as a counterpoint. The smoke is only slightly noticeable, but adds an interesting component. However, the price is clearly too high; you can already find such quality in malts for around 80-100 euros. (Rating: o)

- There is NO light in the DARK! - yes it remains a very good single malt, BUT as a Counterpart to THE DARK and the called one Price a very disappointing HP - in contrast to "THE DARK" (which was extremely good and also showed high quality according to the price) is the "THE LIGHT" unfortunately no enlightenment, but works fully under (... in the high expectation this malt) - for a price around 180 € is my expectation a different one than, for example, a Balvenie 12 yrs. Single Cask (Bourbon) with approx. 50 € or the HP Full Volume 1999/2017, (by the way also 17 or even 18 yrs and for half the price even BETTER in taste!) - but unfortunately the extra price was not noticeable here, other Bourbon bottlings with higher percentages were also able to convince at least as well or better for half the price in a direct comparison Conclusion: - beautiful wood carving - nice bottle - good bourbon storage - The price is exaggerated many times over => DISASTER!

I didn't like it that much with water, it just takes time. 'The Dark' was more successful.

Delicious Highland Park, no doubt! Sweet, delicious, even without water to drink well and even better with a few drops! But something in the quality class, there are already half of the money!

Open today - 28.04.2025 Cross-tasting with https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/100189/highland-park-17-year-old. Conclusion: I think it's great (my last HP was the 12 year old Saint Magnus, this 17 is a bit better).

With water: More sweetness - honey, almost a little cotton candy Initially somewhat spicier and fruitier, it then fades away. Sweetness alternating with salty sea spray becomes dominant. Almond notes, tropical (?) light fruits (pineapple, peach). Rum-soaked cake, rum pot or fruit punch. Subtle hint of cigar box (cedar wood, tobacco). 1. Conclusion: Definitely worth the money!

Fruity notes on the nose are totally in the background and barely noticeable. With water: Clear - softer - and still spicy (decent) Now the fruit notes (pear, pineapple) come to the fore. And then again the silky smoothness with coffee, rum aromas, cocoa.

I am a fan of good bourbon maturations. That's why this bottle fits me fully. Well done ! Certainly the called price> 200 EUR is completely wrong. Sorry HP, but the PLV doesn't work at all. spicey, some traces of black pepper, fine sweet heather, some vanilla and honey. the smoke is quite gentle (or I just did expect more of it). the ABV is well integrated. finish is nice, spicey and sweet all together. fine dram but if I would go for a bourbon HP this would be the Full Volume! (WSZ18)

In contrast to the 'Dark', the HP DNA is clearly visible here: clear, light-fruited, a little bit of smoke, a hint of maritime notes, quite typical for HP matured in the Bourbon barrel. Tasty and pleasant to drink, but not special. Again, the PLV is a joke.

Personally, I like Highland peat, but this is definitely a well-made whisky. In the aroma, taste, and finish, the peat balances out the other notes rather than asserting itself. The aroma is mainly sweet, but the peat provides a bit of heaviness and balance, and the taste balances out the fruity flavors that can be excessive. The finish leaves a nuance that seems to cleanse the palate while asserting itself at the end. The overall taste is dominated by refreshing fruity flavors that make you forget the alcohol content, creating a very pleasant feast of flavors, and the smooth finish that continues for a long time in alternating order rather than a specific note standing out strongly definitely makes you feel that this is a well-made whisky.
Нос 87 Peat: Medicinal, Salt, Smoky / Cracker / Green Apple / Pear / Peach / Honey / Floral / Perfume / Oak / Milk Chocolate / Lime Peel / Orange / Vanilla / Cinnamon - It has a bit of a buzz and makes my nose tingle, but it feels like a small amount compared to the alcohol content. - At first, the peat is subtle but definite. It is not strong, but it has a slightly medicinal and salty scent. It also has a smoky flavor, which strongly asserts that it is a Highland peat. It also has a savory scent of crackers or malt, which opens the starting point of the overall scent. - The fruity scent is well-balanced and well-permeated. The freshness of green apple greets you first, and you can also feel the coolness of pear and the slightly sour scent of peach. The nose is light, peaty and sweet with notes of heather smoke, sweet fruits and white fruits. The palate is sweet and spicy with notes of sweet fruits, caramel, white fruits and dust. The finish is long with notes of spices, oak, dust, vanilla and sweet fruits. It’s a light, smooth, tasty and easy drinkable whisky.

I found this more enjoyable than The Dark. No pun intended, it is just so much brighter. In terms of how these compare, they are very appropriately named. The finish was about the same as dry-hopped ciders I’ve had and combined with that peat quality felt almost like that’s what I was drinking. Also too expensive for what it offers, but still a nice dram.

Very good whisky, light and complex enough. It was released as a summer expression (in opposing to The Dark) and HP succeeded with that very well - fruity and flowery character is easily recognizable. However, the price is set very high (around 200 euros while 28k bottles released - a bit strange price, right?) making this bottling rather collector's item than a daily dram.

Obviously very well rounded dram and much better than the majority of HP but again not my type due to the sweetness, i am sure the HP fans will adore it forever but for me its just another overpriced dram

A wonderful 17 year old Highland Park, fairly easy to drink and if you add water this whisky is completely open.

Surprisingly amazing Highland Park at perfect strength and age. Most importantly, the distillery charcter is fully developed - herbal honey, mouth coating creme brulee or creme caramel and the heathery smoke. Additionally, there´s candied lemons and a coastal edge, imagine taking the best late 70s/early 80s single bourbon casks and mix it with Loki. Just that this one is better than the whole Valhalla collection, and even when tasted head to head against somthing like the 25 years old (2006 release), The Light wins. If we put this 10 years in the cellar for "bottle aging" and attach an Intertrade or Samaroli label, people would definitely rave about it and not rate it like the scores here. 87 average? Definitely not. 90 - 92, depends on your preference.
