Pretty drinkable, however, I also think it's way overprized
I was really surprised by this, quite heavy but very tasty and much better than the 17 year Light version. I have another sample from a different bottle so will check out again soon.

Better than the Fire, but even so, in the same price range it is still a bit over priced.

Yep, the nose delivers. Heavy sherry notes, chocolate and coffee. Spicy with a growing dryness after the sweet arrival. |

A bit too dry. But still a savoury finish that lasts a long time. |
Very nice HP, oranges and subtle peat, very pleasant.

More smooth orange fruitiness and slight ashy peatiness. Warming in the belly. Pretty long finish. |
[April, 2019] After Macallan the Highland Park is second in heavy marketing - distilleries that once were famous for great drams but now their marketing department does not really care about quality any longer. Most of the recent releases of these distilleries were sub-standard in quality but priced like a super-premium product. Astonishingly, this strategy seems to work (except on my taste buds)... ...and this release is a perfect example of that strategy. The quality is abysmal but they sell it for a hell of money (in a fancy packaging). This is a dram for all who prefer design over taste - I do not. To be honest, I would not spend any money on such a whisky (because I do not enjoy any low-quality drink)...

The colour is deep copper and the nose offers a dirty modern sherry profile that is ... nothing else than weakish. There are almost no pleasant aromas to find (like fruits, honeys or spices) but many dull "artificial" ones (old papers, candlewax, matches, brackish water). This is not even a shadow of the great HP noses of the past. |

The taste is sulphur-spoiled (matches) and dominated by bitter flavours. Later some chocolatey flavours pop up but even they are not able to turn this profile into something good. Water just strengthens the sulphur both in the nose and on the palate, I do not like this dram neither neat nor reduced. |

The initial mouthfeel is warming and sulphurous-coating (this unpleasant scurfy impression) and turns bitter-drying over time. The finish is long what is no advantage in this case. It starts bitter-astringent and gets even more bitter and more astringent towards the end. Sorry, but I used the spittoon. |
Surprisingly spicy, not the sherry dominate. Matured, nice HP, but it's a bit expensive.

The nose was rather quiet, but on the palate, this malt developed into a beautiful dram. More expensive than 200 EUR, which is quite a lot for a 17 year old malt.

Dark dried fruits fill the drink abundantly. Dates, prunes, figs, raisins lying on a tobacco leaf. |

Sweet, bright, hot, long. |
Leafy sherry, European oak, herbal richness, and dark, wild honey on the nose. Roasted almonds and creamy marzipan. Old leather and crème brulée. Soy sauce, beef consommé and game meats. Very rich and yes: dark indeed. Less HP smoke on the nose than expected, but it's there, behind wafts of first-fill sherry. Oily in the mouth, tongue- and teeth-coating. Sweet at first, then turning toward oak spices, chocolate, and dark-roast Arabica coffee. The smoke accompanies everything but never plays first fiddle. Perfect drinking strength. Sweet and savory at the same time. This is all good and well, and excellent modern HP, but the best part is the finish. A fusion of heathery peat smoke, honey and Espresso stays, and stays, and stays, and ... stays. This is a LONG finish, is what I'm saying, and the aromas that linger are on point and simply beautiful. I was loathe to shell out 170 € for a 17-year-old with a slightly increased ABV, but after trying a sample I have to admit that it's worth it. One of the best whiskies I ever had was the Highland Park 30-year-old at 48%, which I can't afford, and this at least comes close. If I had to describe it, I would say: Imagine a mixture of the "Dark Origins" (which is very good) and the 30 y.o. (which is fucking sublime), and you have a rough idea of what awaits you here. Really well-made stuff.

Overall, a good sherry malt that is more on the spicy side. He shows a strong and interesting character in the style of the modern sherry malt. However, it is also significantly too expensive at offer prices of around 150 euros. For me a malt in the range of 100 euros. (Rating: o)

COLOUR: dark amber (without dye) - a phenomenal whisky from HP - very complex, lots of depth and volume - currently for about 250 € really ne announcement, but in view of the super quality, the very cool bottle, packaging and the Limitation can still strike without hesitation and above all DRINK!
