Хересный Springbank в бочковой крепости: маслянисто-солёный профиль с сухим хересом, землистой карамелью и «грязноватыми» промышленными нотами. Опытные ставят высоко за яркость и гармонию, критики — за несобранность и избыточную бочку с горечью.

В аромате сухой херес на маслянисто-солёной, морской основе с землистой карамелью, к которым добавляются пыльные промышленно-технические оттенки — канифоль, лак, слегка жжёная резина, лёгкая сера и дымок, «грязноватость». Поверх идут пряный дуб, ваниль, гвоздика, какао, цитрусовые и мята, ореховые ноты (фундук, марципан, нуга) и обильные фрукты — тёмные ягоды, вишня, чернослив, банан, манго, абрикос, груша, яблоко. Вкус крепкий и сухой, насыщенный и, по мнению опытных, гармоничный: карамель, какао, херес, пряности с гвоздикой и кедром, тёмные фрукты, соль и характерные «грязные» пепельные акценты. Послевкусие длинное, с сухим дубом и хересом; многие отмечают, что вода заметно раскрывает сладость, фруктовость и солёность, отодвигая херес на второй план.
Оценки согласованы слабо: разброс от 87 до 92. Опытные ревьюеры ставят высоко (91–92) и хвалят яркость, насыщенность и послевкусие, от которого хочется повторить. Главное расхождение исходит от менее авторитетного критика с оценкой 87: при типичных для Springbank качественных ароматах напитку недостаёт целостности, интенсивная бочка не ладит с высокой крепостью, а горьковатое послевкусие не убеждает и не зовёт продолжить. Прочие сходятся, что это образцовый хересный Springbank, особенно если добавить воды.

No coherent overall package. It does have the delicious aromas typical of Springbank, also in high quality, but it lacks that certain something. In addition, the intense barrel and the high alcohol strength do not really get along. The finish is not convincing and does not make you want more.

Colour: Gold - bronze Nose: At first some lovage (Maggi herb). The dry sherry nose comes through very quickly. Very fine and ripe but also strong because of the cask strength. After warming the hand, add some sulfur and smoke. But only in the background and everything is slightly dirty. In addition, fine lemony notes and a touch of peppermint. After adding water, the salty - maritime profile and tart red fruits emerge more clearly. The sherry character takes a back seat. Palate: Strong start without water. Slightly sweet and delicate sour fruit flavors that disappear quickly. A slightly salty, maritime edge. Then there is clearly dry sherry again. After adding water, it becomes fruity, sweeter and salty. It also somehow makes it more viscous. Does him very well. Departure: Long finish. Clearly dry sherry and wood aromas again. Hardly bitter. After adding water, there is also a significant increase in fruit and sweetness. Comment: Water is definitely very good for him. Without water, very sherry-driven, but hardly any bitterness. With water, the sherry moves into the 2nd row and lets sweetness, fruit and salt through better. Really good jumper. I look forward to the development of the substance over time in the opened bottle. I get 90 points for now. As expected, the whisky improves a bit in the opened bottle. Now everything a little rounder and softer. The beast shows fewer claws and purrs. Now 92 points: o)
