Купажный Mortlach с выдержкой в мускателе: солодово-мясной, землистый профиль с жёлтыми фруктами и лакрицей, приятно сладкий. Оценки плотные (83–87), общий упрёк — короткое послевкусие; единичное резкое неприятие из-за искусственно-цитрусового аромата.

В аромате — жёлтые и косточковые фрукты (мандарин, абрикос), свежесть, землистый оттенок и характерная для Mortlach мясная умами-нота, к которым добавляются лакрица, чайный оттенок бергамота и цветочность; влияние мускателя ощутимо, но не подавляет и придаёт насыщенный цвет. Вкус мягкий и плотный, слаще, чем обещает аромат: изюм, сладкие фрукты, дуб и ваниль соседствуют с землистой мясистостью, напоминающей светлую подливку, и приправлены лакрицей; тело мускулистое, спирт сбалансирован, хотя рот слегка подсушивается. Почти все отмечают короткое, быстро обрывающееся послевкусие как главный недостаток. Опытные ревьюеры настроены благосклоннее и подробнее хвалят баланс фруктов и умами, ставя вплоть до 86; остальные держатся в узком коридоре 83–87, что говорит о высокой согласованности. Расхождения два: один автор со временем поднял оценку до 87 и купил вторую бутылку, найдя напиток всё приятнее, несмотря на нехватку землистости; другой резко выпал вниз (70), уловив в аромате искусственные цитрусовые ноты, ассоциирующиеся с чистящими средствами, и предпочтя версии того же разливщика в олоросо. В остальном образец воспринимается как нетипичный, но вкусный Mortlach, чью цельность подтачивает лишь слабое послевкусие.

Muscat Mortlach I recently got a visitor from Virginia, USA, and again my friend John brought some nice bottles. I think we should make this a tradition, John! This time it is a 14-year-old Mortlach – the Beast of Dufftown – that was bottled at 47.5% after a finish on Moscatel casks. I assume that this is not cask strength. The malt has been given a fantastic color by the wine. Captivating and aromatic nose on all kinds of yellow fruit, but also an earthy touch and a hint of the umami character that typifies Mortlach. In that respect, I think it is already a success. Another hint of Earl Grey tea and something floral. Beautiful! Oh, this is good... Sweet on raisins, tangerines and apricot, but at the same time umami on something that reminds me of clear meat gravy. Gently seasoned with licorice. The Moscatel comes into its own here, without dominating. The only point of criticism is the finish, which is on the short side. An atypical, but very tasty Mortlach. Thank you, John!

A 14-year-old Mortlach from the Càrn Mòr series, finished in a Moscatel cask. You have to invest between just under €94 and €100 at the beginning of 2023. glen-efze.de

Нос 83 Very fruity on the nose, rather fresh. A little thin.
Вкус 87 Stronger than it smells, the "muscular", meaty Mortlach is there. Sweet, earthy, wood. Nice! Makes the mouth a bit dry, alcohol well balanced.
Финиш 85 Medium-length, fruity, semi-dry.

Soft and thick, a typical Mortlach profile. Sweet, licorice and meaty. Unfortunately hardly a finish.

I've had this dram for a few weeks now and I like it better and better. It lacks the earthiness of Mortlach a bit, but it still tastes very pleasant. Hence a slightly higher score than my initial 86, now 87/100 and.... ordered a second bottle.

One thing in advance: I love Mortlach. Unfortunately, nothing about this malt fits together for me personally. The nose reminds me of artificial citrus notes and therefore of cleaning products for the bathroom. No pleasure for me, neither on the nose nor on the palate, as the association continues. A pity! The Oloroso Casks are worlds better from the same bottler with similar ages.
