В аромате — спелые красные яблоки, абрикос и апельсиновый джем поверх солодово-ореховой основы, с ноткой свежемолотого чёрного перца и проявляющейся при проветривании ванилью; типичных хересных нот красных ягод почти нет, поскольку бочка из-под олоросо была повторного налива и отдала мало. Вкус маслянистый и мягкий, начинается медовой сладостью с яблоком, абрикосом и малиной, затем переходит в отчётливую перечную пряность; послевкусие средней длины, с горчинкой тёмного шоколада, проступающим дубом и остаточной фруктовостью. Один из опытных отметил сильный уклон в белое вино с клубникой и сливочным шоколадом.
Опытные ревьюеры сходятся в главной претензии: собственный характер вискокурни выражен, но хересности и пряности от бочки не хватает, а лёгкая резкость в аромате и вкусе избыточна для 47%; при этом виски признаётся добротно сделанным и лёгким в питье, просто не попадающим в их вкус. Менее опытные вторят: сладкий, фруктовый, питкий, но тонкотелый и простой, без особых черт. Оценки согласованны и кучкуются около 80–85 (84, 84, 85, 80), с одним заметным выбросом вниз (73) от опытного автора, которого смутила «потерянность» вкуса между ароматом и послевкусием, хотя он же назвал виски выгодным за свою цену.

Overall, the Benrinnes 12y from the Spirits of the Forest series and I are not quite on the same wavelength. The sherry cask, which has already been used once, left room for Benrinne's own distillery character, but I would have liked a little more sherry content - especially in terms of the typical sherry fruitiness. The slight sharpness in the nose, which continues into the mouth, could have been less - especially when you consider that this was bottled at “only” 47%. But it's a rock-solid single malt that's well made, just doesn't exactly match my taste profile.
| Нос | 84 | Not only from the fairly light color, but also from the smell you can see that the 2nd fill sherry cask used was no longer too generous with its aromas. The distillery character still has enough space to show itself. In addition to a sweet malt note, the Premium Snifter glass contains ripe red apples. Further fruit notes add some apricot and orange jam, which shine through behind the initial grain and nut mix. There is little smell of red berry fruit or similar typical sherry aromas. There is a subtle spicy side in the background, like aromatic freshly ground black pepper, only slightly but noticeable - could be from the barrel. After the first and second sip, your nose changes. The apricot becomes clearer and there are also hints of berries and vanilla. At the same time, in addition to the Premium Snifter, I also poured the whisky into the Simple Sample nosing glass. And lo and behold, here the Benrinnes becomes much fruitier and sweeter! The red apples are now a compote prepared with caramel, the apricots also switch from jam to compote with added orange juice concentrate. Vanilla shows itself more clearly. The malty and nutty flavors are in the background. The tingling of pepper can also be felt in the aftertaste in the nose. Interesting once again how a whisky behaves in different glasses. |
| Вкус | 84 | When tasting from the Premium Snifter, the malt slides oily and soft into the mouth. A strong start that begins with a pleasant sweetness of honey. The sweetness is accompanied by bright fruit aromas of apples and a little apricot, which are supported by raspberries on the third sip. Afterwards, a spiciness with a clear pepper content takes over the taste. From the nosing glass it is surprisingly spicier right from the start and more on the peppery side of the flavor spectrum. Much less sweetness and fruit content. I like the taste of the Premium Snifter much better here. |

A very fruity whisky with lots of white wine aromas. The taste is a bit lost between the smell and the finish. But a bargain for the price.
