Surge? From the storm and dark storm? What's next, sea spray. A bottle that should be kept as travel retail but is better than the horrendously priced and made malt that is the Neist Point. Whilst the elements of a peated smoked talisker is found, it lacks the core fundamental aspect of a peaty sweet and salty talisker that it is known for. For that, I'd say its more of a gimmick bottling to fit into the lineup. Therefore, I won't divulge deeper into notes and just say its below average at best.

Salted Almonds The Talisker Surge is a relative newcomer of this distillery on Skye, initially only launched as a Travel Retail Exclusive, but now easily available in the market. It is a NAS whisky that has been matured exclusively on former bourbon casks. Admittedly, the nose is different from what I'm used to from Talisker. Soft medicinal and minty notes on the nose, with slate. Almond oil and coconut milk, I kid you not. In the background, the Talisker trinity (salty, peat, pepper) is present, but the sweetness of the bourbon barrels mainly provides vanilla and digestive cookies. This is good, but it takes some getting used to. The arrival is rather soft, but immediately sweet on caramel and toffee, followed by ashes, sea salt and candied ginger, white pepper and citrus fruit. Almonds resurface, but with a salted edge. Even something of cough candy and charred wood. I am very happy with this profile. I really like it and it's something else from Talisker. The finish is pleasantly long, salty and peppery. In that respect, it is very typical Talisker. This is certainly tasty, but the price tag is exaggerated in my (un)humble opinion. I pay around 80 EUR for this. I can buy two bottles of Talisker 10 for that! Thank you for the generous sample, Herman.
For all my whining about yet another NAS Talisker with little transparency, this is actually a tasty single malt.

Aroma:Initially, aromas of forest berries, crème brûlée, banana split, American cream soda, and the sweet scent of butterscotch emerge. This is followed by the smoky essence of toasted pine nuts and subtle spicy notes, revealing the spirit's robust strength. Palate:The initial taste is gentle, perfectly mirroring the first impressions of the aroma. It is followed by the sweetness of brioche and the flavor of banana toffee, which releases a tropical hint of tinned peaches. After a moment, the true essence of Talisker subtly emerges—a sweet maritime character, fresh ginger, and increasingly prominent notes of oak smoke and peppery spice. Finish:The finish is long and powerful—a spicy warmth intertwined with black pepper notes, gradually enveloped by the smokiness of dying embers on a beach campfire, concluding with a faint hint of toasted marshmallow.

Typical Talisker. Maritime, sweet, peppery, light smoke. It was badly done in advance, which is certainly due to the price. However, I think it tastes good, only the price is really completely covered. For me it plays in the league up to 50 euros.

Earthy peat, animal sweat, wet dog, a few discreet coastal notes, iodine pearls, sea air, seaweed, kelp, limestone. Candied apricots, molasses, varnished wood, caramel and milk chocolate, drops of fir honey. On the palate, the caramel is powerful, quince jam, it's slightly watery, dried banana, vanilla, lychee, and the distillery's typical peppery note. A fairly long and powerful finish, charcoal, smoked wood, hazelnuts, Carambar, mint candy, cola. Foam, sea spray. As is often the case with this type of bottling, it is a blend of very young and older whiskies, which means that the whisky oscillates between all the flaws of immaturity, and some more pleasant notes. https://ilikesky2020.blogspot.com/2026/02/talisker-surge.html

Another great Talisker that gives a lot of freshness, fruit and smoke. Delicate peppery bitterness adds charm. The only thing that can be a little bit of attention is the price. I find it a bit high for a NAS whisky. Nevertheless, I like it very much and I will be tempted to buy a bottle. Perfect as a sip "every day".

The malt doesn't necessarily shine with a lot of complexity, but for me it reflects what Talisker should be. Sweet, creamy, but also smoky and rough. That works very well with this malt, even if I don't think it's very old. The price of €60 is still too high, but I would drink it again.

It's difficult for me to describe; there are some components that are clearly recognizable as belonging to a Talisker, but basically it's a 10-inch light version without any noteworthy features. It's good to have tried it, but I don't need it. - June 27, 2026

It has an oily viscosity and its bouquet is relatively intense. I have aromas of malty sweetness, maritime notes, vanilla, light smoke, caramel and honey sweetness. Not very complex. Relatively dry in taste. The alcohol is well integrated and it has a heavy body.

Alcohol: 45.8% Aroma: Oranges, sweet candies, followed by saltiness, sea, windiness in the second wave, and a bit further on, a sense of comfort. (87b) Taste: There is smoke, but oranges dominate. Then there are apples, lemons. Oily on the tongue. Spicy fruity juiciness. Ashy aftertaste. The oranges, like the candies in the scent, are quite surprising in Talisker, but really why not? (88b) Points: 88/100 Summary: I tasted at our recent sit down with josé and then again from a cast sample over time. An unusual but good Talisker. Unexpectedly fun and playful. had a renewed interest in talisker since i finished a bottle of the distillery’s 18 yo this summer, while vacationing in a small cottage on the Ligurian coast. with friends, vacationing with friends… i mean i didn’t drink it all by myself! too much caramel and coffee in the surge, i’d preferred it closer to bourbon wood, but the peat&salt dna of the distillery on Skye is there and it makes up for a rather pleasant sip.. a little bit too drying in the finish, though.. 85 points if need be. the aromas in the nose are quite negligible.
нос 84 · вкус 84 · финиш 83
I found Surge to be a slightly unusual, middle-ground Talisker, sitting between Neist Point (sweeter, softer) and Distillers Edition (richer, sherried), but not fully satisfying either direction. Nose / palate impression: Dominated by sweet fruit notes—apple, pear, and honey. The profile feels fairly sweet overall, with only a touch of spice underneath. Sherry influence: I can’t really detect sherried character, which makes it feel less deep or layered than expected. Talisker character: This is the key issue for me —it feels like the core Talisker identity is muted or missing, so it doesn’t deliver the coastal, peppery signature that draws you to the brand. Balance: I see it as somewhere between Neist Point and Distillers Edition, but ultimately: * Not as sweet as Neist Point * Not as rich or structured as Distillers Edition * But still too sweet-dominant overall Finish: Light spice, but nothing that restores the missing Talisker edge. ⸻ Overall verdict A somewhat balanced but identity-diluted Talisker where sweetness overrides the coastal/peppery core. Decision: I would not move from a sample to a full bottle.

It’s certainly a Talisker – all the classic character is there. The problem is that this seems to be just an inferior version of the 10. The 10 has a better mouthfeel, more complexity, and a longer finish. If this were cheaper, I’d say that it was a good way to save some money while still accessing a real Talisker profile… but the MSRP on this is $115, so that doesn’t work. In that respect, this seems like one of those duty-free bottlings aimed at non-enthusiasts who jump a new label from a brand they might already like and don’t think twice.
Fat bourbon and oak aromas immediately pour out of the bottle when poured into the room. After 16 minutes, the mixture of flavors has settled; soft smoke, roasted apple and stewed pear are added. On the palate it is definitely... oaky, vinous, smoky... and then the Chilicatch dominates. But why little? In the finish there are also chocolate, nuts, some caramel. What are these fruit flavors? Somehow the undifferentiated compote with bitter notes like block chocolate. Somewhat sweet and smoky. So: a nice dram, nothing special; two or three years ago something like this would have been available for 30 euros. As a blend with an Islay touch. PS: The Talisker Surge becomes quite tasty with water.

I tasted this in a tasting with only Taliskers, and it was by far the least of the bunch. N: Bourbon barrel aging is unmistakable on the nose, with some apple, vanilla and bread. T: It's metallic, sharp and thin. In other words: I think this is pretty young stuff. The peat is very light, and I get that because this whisky is intended as an 'entry-in' for the global market and beginners. There are also some stone fruits and citrus in the taste, but it is not very special. Conclusion: Skip this one, it's not worth its price at all...
