Хайлендский солод из бочки от рома: очень сладкий, тропические фрукты, солёно-морские ноты; раскрывается с водой. Расхождение — влияние рома для многих перекрывает характер винокурни.

В аромате доминирует сладость бочки из-под рома — патока, ананас (в том числе жжёный), кокос, ваниль, коричневый сахар, засахаренные цитрусы, к которым добавляются солёно-морские ноты, сухофрукты, спелые яблоки, крыжовник и травянисто-растительный оттенок винокурни. Вкус мощный, маслянистый и наполняющий, с пряной дубовой остротой, перцем, мёдовой сладостью и сочной фруктовостью; многие отмечают, что образец почти требует воды, которая делает его свежее, живее и раскрывает солёность и крыжовник. Послевкусие длинное и сладкое, с патокой, корицей и жжёным сахаром, но именно оно чаще всего разочаровывает — коротковатое, простоватое, с лёгкой раздражающей горчинкой. Опытные ревьюеры ставят чуть ниже (около 86) и настойчивее критикуют: влияние рома перекрывает характер дистиллята, напиток скорее пахнет ромом, чем виски, и одномерно сладок — «виски ли это вообще». Менее авторитетные оценки выше и разбросаннее (85–91), они охотнее хвалят сложность, морскую солёность и сочную фруктовость. Общий разброс невелик и оценки согласованы вокруг рейтинга 88, а сквозные мотивы — сильная сладость рома, необходимость воды и слабоватое послевкусие — повторяются у авторов обоих уровней.

Green tones are quite abundantly represented: green apple, cherry plum, mowed grass. A few confectionery, candy associations.

Lovely, sweet and fruity stuff. Is it whisky though? Technically the answer would be "yes" but the rum influence is overpowering the character of the distillate. This is why I don't rate it as high as some others would. It's very tastefull nonetheless and I wouldn't mind owning a full bottle of this.
Нос 86 Sweet and slightly funky rum meets minerality. Molasses, damp wood, pineapple, orange zest, French toast, but also limewood, shells, peach, aprircot, mango. Very expressive and juicy-sweet. Noses more like rum than like whisky if you ask me. So far for the distillery character. But it's nice.
Вкус 86 Very sweet and a lifted, perfumed note that makes me think of rose meets cardamom. Very unusual but I like it. More sweetness on molasses, flapjacks and sweet cinnamon, maple syrup, grilled pineapple, papaya, and Jaffa cakes. There is hardly any form of spicy edge. Again, the distillery character is not really noticeable.
Финиш 87 Long, mainly sweet and fruity, yet now with a mossy side that I can recognise as Tobermory. Molasses, syrup, again flapjack with cinnamon, some furniture wax, Grand Marnier, moss, a hint of menthol and cereal.

Definitely needs water. Quite a thick sweetness, but very pleasant. Can't deny the rum cask.

Нос 91 Starts out salty and very ripe. Full malty tones, dried fruit, metallic accents, brown sugar, flambéed pineapple, gooseberry tart and beautiful maritime notes. With water: fresh, salty, beach walk, gooseberry, citrus tones, various old apple varieties, subtle maltiness and wet earth. Wonderfully put together.
Вкус 90 Strong attack, salt, malty aromas, pepper, oak, wonderfully warming, juicy fruitiness. Really good. With water: juicy, fruity, gentle warmth, salt, brown sugar, grass, jute and gooseberry.
Финиш 90 Long, salty, tarte tatin, flambéed pineapple, brown sugar.

Нос 91 ... Candied citrus fruits with soft spicy oak, maritime with salt, prunes, buttercream and ripe apples.
Вкус 93 TASTE an explosion of yellow dried fruit. Malt pleasantly dry with black tea with cream. Then tobacco notes with strong cocoa and dark chocolate.
Финиш 90 Sweet, spicy and elegant intense and complex.

Very reserved on the nose at the beginning. Needs a lot of time. It becomes fruitier with water. On the palate then the exact opposite with a very intense attack, whereby the alcohol is well integrated. The finish is rather disappointing because it is quite short. You hardly notice anything from the rum cask post-aging. For 80 euros it would be acceptable, it would definitely not be worth more to me.
Нос 85 Sweet, vanilla, peach, dust, pepper. Later acidic, citrus fruit, coconut and wood.
Вкус 87 Immediately strong start with spiciness, sweetness, light fruits, honey, pepper and peppermint. Well integrated alcohol.
Финиш 84 Too short a finish with peach, bitterness, honey, vanilla, malt and alcohol that is still reasonably integrated.

Delicious malt with a great nose, then falls off slightly as it is quite sharp on the palate. Water helps a little. Then it is even sweeter and creamier.
Нос 89 Wonderfully aromatic nose, lots of fruit, spices, floral aromas, coffee and chocolate. Very versatile nose. Peaches, grapes, mixed berries, mixed with cinnamon, marzipan and brown cane sugar. A subtle hint of fragrant vanilla tobacco comes through. Little by little, the wood aromas become a little more intense. There is also a slightly sour citrus note. Malt, roasted coffee and almonds come through in the background.
Вкус 87 Powerful, mouth-filling, lots of oak spice and peppery notes come together with a honey sweetness and light fruits. Great mix and very harmonious. Grapes, gooseberries, currants and deep dark plums fill the mouth. Plus malt, grain, muesli, salty licorice and peppermint. Has a somewhat maritime effect on the palate now and again.
Финиш 88 Quite a long finish, fruity, still a malty and vanilla sweetness with slightly nutty roasted aromas. Honey, caramelized sugar,

The rum influence is very obvious. Very sweet, think vanilla powdered white sugar, pineapple, coconut, spiciness, malt, gentle oak/sawdust, burnt brown sugar crust, something perfumy. Overall, the whisky is high quality, but may not be to everybody's liking...

Вкус 87 Too sweet for me personally. Takes water well. No off notes. The distillery character is long gone. One might call it one-dimensional and not a whisky at all.
Финиш 88 Medium, sweet as hell! Woody/spicy would also fit into the description to be fair.

An ordinary aroma, probably characteristic of whisky aged 12-15 years, but not 27 years old. The rum finish adds tropical fruit but dissolves rather quickly under the influence of the bourbon barrel. The taste is excellent, it contains everything that is missing in the aroma, you can feel the age of the whisky and its “weight”, but 57.5% is too much for it. The aftertaste is shorter than expected. Another age-appropriate single malt with no balance: a frankly dull aroma and a boring finish with a deep and refined taste.

from a 4 cl sample: very nice bourbon maturation, classy and sharp.. oils abound.. the two barrels compliment each other seamlessly on the palate, while the rum shines through in the nose.. the Tobermory classic, vegetal note is very distinct and clear.. drinks better with a few drops of water, makes the spirit a little more lively.. all in all a very nice dram from a bottler i am fond of and deserving credit for a really good job.. they bottled a dram that marries the power of an Octomore with the soft silkiness of a Bladnoch. So would i buy a bottle? At 150 e i would have jumped at the opportunity.. at 180, well, mmmaybe.. but 240 it is really stretching it.. it seems that lately, many independent bottles are priced 50-80 euros over what i would consider a reasonable price… i am however reminded of the recent whiskysponge article detailing the woes of the indie bottlers so i bitch no more (plus, we already have u/hs305 doing a better job than i could possibly do at complaining about prices).. alas, i don’t know, i’ll see how much i miss it in the coming days.. finish is a bit behind, with a slightly bothering bitter note, but still quite fragrant, salty and fresh

Door number 16 in the advent calendar is this powerful Tobermory. The rum finish brings a great sweetness and lots of exotic fruits. Only the finish is a bit too easy.
