A very nice, dignified (presumably) sherry malt. With this great nose I would have more than allowed him a "thicker" appearance on the tongue. But it is probably precisely this unexcited factor that makes him stand out.
Нос 90 Raisins dipped deep and long in sherry, dried figs and dates, plums. Oak planks stored for a long time, dusty floor. Marzipan bread, nougat, dark chocolate, toffee. Over time, clove powder and nutmeg are added, as well as a little pepper, but it blends in well. A little furniture polish.
Вкус 89 Full notes of sherry in the form of leather, blackberries, grapes and raisins on the tongue. Dry and pleasant start, not too strong. Chocolate, a little cherry jam. Some menthol.
Финиш 89 Medium length and dry. Leather, chocolate, nougat, marzipan, grated almonds. Decreasing seasoning.

Tasted this old beauty at the first Whisky Tasting Festival (WTF) in Utrecht, August 2016, at the whiskybase stand. nose: fantastic, a warm welcome mix of tradition sherry, but with strong hints of old wood, dark chocolate, tabacco , coffee and raisins. Also a hint of string beef stew taste: Wow, what a mouthfull of warm ripe red fruits, mokka, choclate and some spicyness. again some hints of old wood. very well balanced. finish: long and impressive, dark chocolate and coffee are most present

86-90 – Wow, really good one, need a bottle
Нос 89 Very full and round, but not intrusive. Light, pleasant sweetness. Alcohol very well integrated. Light dark sherry notes. Some raisins.
Вкус 92 Appears classy, very round and soft. Alcohol? Not found, but pleasant strength.
Финиш 89 Pleasant sherry finish. Medium length. More chocolate with each sip.

In fact, a little too blatantly dominated by the oak and extreme dryness and herbs, this is a real "Nipp whisky", a whole sip of it and you want a glass of water first. But of course still a brilliant piece of barrel history.

Great old sherry whisky. A lot of oak, that's right, but still OK, the other flavors are still recognizable and at the age you should be able to expect a little oak. Nevertheless, rather a dry representative. I like it very much.

A wonderful nose, delicate and old. The rest was good too, just the finish didn't reach the average level to be honest. Maybe the whisky was at the edge of becoming tired.  Still highly recomendable.

Conclusion: 93/100 points - "sherry bomb". This successful Speysider offers the full sherry flavor profile without revealing the barrel too much. He looks altogether younger than he really is. The "Old Leanach Farmhouse" on the front of the bottle is in the Highlands, so unfortunately this does not allow any conclusion to the distillery, but it is rumored that it is a Macallan! Based on the flavor profile, I'm more likely to go from a Glenfarclas, which also suggests that to my knowledge all 1977 / 2015s no-destillery statement bottlings come from a stick and are Glenfarclas. The nose is the best on the whisky, this would give me smooth 98 points. The taste unfolds after a good half hour again strong. Here I recommend to enjoy the whisky with much peace. The addition of water is not necessary. For tasting on my blog with photos: http://www.tasting-notes.de/Archive/529

38 year old “secret” Speyside bottling from 1977 by Whisky-Doris from a sherry barrel. Bottled in cask strength with 47.0%. In the nose, the typical notes that I expect from such an old sherry bottling can be seen: leather, lots of oak, tobacco, dusty wooden furniture in Grandpa's cellar. Visit to a Cuban cigar shop. A bit of a waxy smell of candles and a little yeast plait, but rather the three-day-old one dried up under the Tupperware bowl. Spicy wood notes clearly dominate here and real fruit flavors have little chance of getting through. You can tell the age absolutely. Very voluminous in the mouth despite only 47%, very aromatic, wonderfully oily and extremely spicy. Cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla and lots of tart spices, clearly going towards ground coffee. Leather, tobacco. some dried fruit and rum pot. The finish is always bitter and pleasantly peppery on the cheeks. Very dry mouthfeel and comfortably warming. It is a massive oak load that is presented here, but nothing has been “turned over” here as far as sherry storage is concerned, the aromas are clearly on the strongly spicy side without any missing notes. You have to like this bitter intensity even if sweetness, vanilla and subtle dried fruits provide a counterpoint. But I like that very much, especially the smell aromas are excellent. 91 points
Tabrulavubeg 91 03 may 2016 9:58 am
Lots of red fruits, also oranges, chocolate and some spices. Very well-balanced. This is more the "juicy" type of old sherried malt, not the oaky type. Which is more than fine for me. The strength is perfect for drinking, so I haven't added water so far. Great old sherried whisky, without a doubt.
Gloin 87 19 jun 2016 1:03 pm
It starts with a beautiful, multi-layered nose that offers more than just sherry. The taste is unfortunately a bit too dominated by the oak. Strong oak does not bother me, but it lacks a little counterpoint. The finish is then very classic and again a bit rounder. Good, but not very good blind tasting

Expectations were high and I was not disappointed. Great malt from one of the '' golden years '' of whisky production. Compared to the partially totally overloaded modern sherry whiskys, this one is a nice change. The sherry leaves the spirit enough space to be omitted, which is an absolute quality feature for me. It was fun!
Нос 92 To begin: Wine gum, slightly charred European oak, sour cherries, malt, mandarins, sultanas and some grass. After 20 minutes, rum balls, shortbread biscuits and milk chocolate are added. It also becomes a little more sour.
Вкус 90 Very pleasant mouthfeel. Viscous oiliness, very harmonious. The oak is noticeable by a slight furry. Chocolate-coated raisins, figs, drupes, light rum notes.
Финиш 90 Medium to long. Dusty leather, mocha and tobacco. Bitterness spreads. Nice ending!
StyrianSpirit 91 11 may 2019 5:10 pm
A beautiful old Sherrymalt - but the thing in the mouth and the finish is very oak dominant. Overall, a 91-point pleasure (93-91-89) for me. A few drops of water take something away from the strong oak, but in the nose also a hint of fruit depth. Overall for me no significant advantage.
Нос 93 First come very fine oak notes; with persistence in the glass then fine ripe plums, raisins and some wax. A very nice elegant-spicy old sherry nose.
Вкус 91 The oak is immediately full, followed, as in the nose, by plum and raisins, before again oak and damp cellar take over the aromas. The 47% are just really slightly tingly-invigorating, but not spicy. Even the delicate waxiness returns.
Финиш 89 In the finish, the oak will clearly take the lead. Plum and dried fruit are in the background, the matter is already very dry.

Nose: Notes of heavily aged dark sherry, forest fruit, chocolate, strawberry marmalade Taste: The taste is old with the first sip. In the foreground, the taste of aged sherry, raisins and forest fruits. Additionally, chocolate and a light peppercorn between the notes. The whole thing is very well composed. Deep and long notes. Rating: 90 | 100 Long finish with an aged sherry flavor. Well, a very nice whisky. Definitely worth recommending!

Madness. A really strong sherry representative. First sweet and warm, then strong and tart. Very long finish. A great malt with a tiny trigger, since the oak is already quite pronounced.

whiskynotes.be, Ruben says: Nose: one of the most sherried expressions among all these undisclosed Speysiders. Plenty of raisins, fruit cake and tobacco, this time also stronger associations of coffee, dark chocolate and walnuts. Prunes and dates add some sweetness. Hints of cured meat as well. Very rich. Mouth: high octane sherry, with all the expected rum soaked raisins and chocolate, as well as dried herbs and mossy notes. Half sweet, half savoury. Oaky notes, sure, with pepper, nutmeg and cardamom. Dark chocolate. Finish: long, quite oaky. Liquorice and sweet coffee. A highly attractive Speyside whisky. I think I enjoyed the more refined ones more, but this is still a cracking choice for sherry lovers. Around € 280 from Whisky-Doris in Germany. Score: 90/100

Older sherry bottlings tend to like a bitter, woody Aftertaste. This filling is pleasing and in my humble opinion, not to. The nose is outstanding, the taste only outstanding. (Grin) 93 points

13.06.2016: www.whiskyfun.comSpeyside 1977/2015 (47%, Whisky-Doris, dark sherry, cask #25, 577 bottles) This pedigree reeks of Glen… class. Only a very wild guess of course. Colour: amber. Nose: does Speyside need sherry? Discuss… What’s sure is that this mineral, chalky, leathery, cherry-ridden, flinty, Corinth-raisiny (tsk tsk tsk, S.!) profile just clicks. Artichokes, black tobacco (Gauloises bien sûr), dried beef meat, Grisons-style… Or is that bresaola? After ten minutes, we’re in an old wine cellar in the midst of Burgundy. Pass the persillé! (google is your friend even if they are the worst tax evaders ever!) Mouth: absolutely excellent, chocolaty and leathery, dry, tobacco-ish, leafy, herbal, deep… we’re almost crunching (or sucking on) thin mints. Finish: rather long, with more Seville oranges and oak spices – but we’re way below the limits as far as oak spices are concerned. More bitter cloves in the aftertaste, which got a little drying now. Comments: a dry sherry monster – and an ‘almost-90’. SGP:461 - 89 points.

Situation: March 2019; on vacation, sitting on the couch after a nice first day in the Netherlands. Watching Youth of Today performing live in Brooklyn via Instagram - yes, I know ironic on many levels but hell, what an energetic show! Information: This dram was bottled by German indi-bottler Whisky Doris and is a Sherry Cask from a well-known but not to be named Speyside Distillery. Oh and distilled in 1977! Holly Paxarette Batman! I’m quite excited since it’t the first Whisky Doris dram I’ve had and I heard lots of good things about her picks. Also, because everything I had from the 70s was pretty amazing! Nose: Incredible! What a boastful and voluptuous nose! Candied apples, lots of dark fruits (berries, plums, cherries etc) covered in honey, cough syrup, vanilla, Christmas spices. Old leather and tobacco notes. A bit musty with some earthy notes as well. Very nice and more complex than my words do justice. Taste: Drying to say the least! Creamy entry, pimped by 38 years in oak the 47% present themselves quite aggressive with strong salty and peppery notes, peppermint and similar herbs, brown sugar, darrrrrk (rum soaked) raisins, leather, dark bitter coffee, dried fruits and some nuts. Finish: Obviously drying as well. Quite long and woody, like chewing birch wood branches, orange, menthol, double espresso with no sugar, licorice, some brown sugar as well as vanilla notes join in on the way out. Even though it is quite long it thins out pretty quick. Conclusion: The nose is just lovely, the body is very oak-driven and dry but opens up with time (or as you get used to the oakiness), the finish is quite drying as was to be expected. Even though the taste couldn’t hold the promise of a luxury sherry bomb type of dram the oaky and herbal notes of the palate create a quite interesting and nice dram. It’s borderline over-oaked though, so if you’re not a fan of intense wood notes you’ll probably won’t enjoy this as much. I was a tad bit disappointed at first but kept enjoying it more and more with every sip. Not an „easy and pleasing“ dram though but I still enjoyed it very much. Score: ★★★★☆
