A very fruity and spicy expression of a Glengoyne 1972 - for sure one of the better ones but also for sure not on the same level like my favorite cask 12044, it's wilder and less balanced and on the nose the overripe papaya is not necessarily a plus. Anyhow, overall it's a great bottling!

Lots of fresh and tropical fruits, apple, pineapple, ripe papaya, little apricot, plum, dates, spices, pepper, cigar tobacco, whiffs of oak wood - great! |

Very fruity reminiscent of the 73 speysiders, very good
Träumchen, was always worried that he is "too smooth" me from the nose, but he still convinced extremely. The pomegranate and the sweet woods are not always in the station wagon.
I am not sure whether the additional maturation really improved this whisky in comparison to the first bottling from this cask - but nevertheless it has superb quality. On sale for an unbelievable cheap price, if you you compare it with the price for other Glengoynes 1972, e.g. by the Whisky Agency (180-190 €). Highly Recommended.
It's extremely good. In the beginning it's outright funky, but that settles soon (if you like the funk, drink it rather quickly and in small portions then). After settling, this is a very balanced and concentrated single malt. Dried fruit (prune) dominates, with also a touch of leather. This earthy side mixes well with notes of tobacco, cigar box, polished wood and cocoa. The finish lasts for ages (in my mind).

The nose is very exciting. From awkward to more standard, with a constant tension (an undertone of bitter notes, almost like mould but not fully). It starts rather funky and spicy, with lots of cocoa powder, cardamom beans, mint, nutmeg, before a more traditional red apple, prune, old leather books, cigar box, and an old oiled chesterfield (both the wood and leather) come into mind. |

This is extremely good. The palate is not too dry (as I feared), has even a bit of a sweet and oily feel. It's very intense on prune (jam), with date, spices, hazelnut, cola, coffee, and cocoa. It's also leafy, with tobacco, wet leaves, and cigar box. One of the best palates I've encountered. |

The finish is long, still prune-dominated but with more influence of the wood. It's all in a balanced and harmonised way. Also it reminds me of a good Christmas cake. |
Glengoyne 1985 cask 1391 got rave reviews here and elsewhere, but didn't really light my fire (85 pts.). However, here is an older single cask I can totally understand and give heaps of praise to. The first thing I noticed nosing this malt is that if its cask has changed during its maturation, I can't tell. The spirit and cask both bring out aromas I would expect of stuff made in 1972 with all the nice, restrained but varied European oak spices, old dry oak that hasn't gone over, and a tropical fruit juice note that comes in with some water.

This bottling is much more interesting than the highly rated Glengoyne 1972 MoS 1204, even if it seems more harmonious and balanced. While this bottling was available for around 180 euros, the MoS 1204 should cost around 300 euros.
That's how you like the old sherry cask matured Speysiders. Spicy notes, well-integrated wood and here, too, I have "incense notes" in the nose. Wonderful malt
