В аромате — красные и тёмные фрукты (сливы, вишня, изюм, ягоды), тёмный шоколад, кожа, табак, мёд, ваниль и карамель, с фирменной для дистиллерии апельсиновой и вересковой нотой и лёгким дымком на заднем плане; многие отмечают, что хересные бочки европейского дуба дают глубину и делают напиток старше своих лет. Вкус плотный и сливочный, но заметно более пряный и жгучий, чем обещает нос: чёрный перец, гвоздика, корица, тёмный шоколад и кофе, быстро уходящий в сухость и вяжущие танины. Послевкусие среднее или долгое, суховатое — какао, эспрессо, сухой табак и кожа, перец и лёгкая пепельно-угольная нота, у некоторых с горчинкой. Опытные ревьюеры единодушны и держатся в узком коридоре 86–89, ценя целостность и то, что напиток выбивается из взаимозаменяемого современного хересного профиля; часть из них сетует, что хересная бочка приглушила узнаваемый торфяной характер дистиллерии и что вкусу не хватает баланса из-за пряной жгучести. Остальные оценивают чуть шире (86–90), охотнее хвалят питкость и соотношение цены и качества, но повторяют ту же двойственность: превосходный нос и несколько разочаровывающий, слишком сухой и быстро иссякающий вкус, который смягчается парой капель воды. Общая согласованность высокая — расхождения касаются не качества, а того, насколько херес перекрыл торфяно-дымную подпись.

The smoky character of HP is a bit overwhelmed by the sherrycask, and as such not very recognizable anymore. Still it is a nice whisky, quite some power but not too much, quite thick structure.
Нос 86 Red fruits, plums, quite some alcohol, a whiff of smoke on the background. After some time the nose gets friendlier, the smoky part has disappeared.
Вкус 87 Pretty some power, but not too hefty. Creamy thick structure, red fruits, plums. Licorice, apple sirup.
Финиш 86 Still some power, red fruits, berries, a bit drying, some little whiff of smoke.

Such a well balanced HP. Berries, leather, chocolate, pepper, plum stones, wood-sherry notes with a light bitterness that does not interfere. The finish is quite long, pleasantly warming. All 22 from the sample.

A sureshot. The casks make it seem older than it actually is. Only the spicy, fiery palate leaves me wanting a bit more balance. The nose gets even better with a drop of water.

Вкус 87 ...which make this one turn pretty dark, herbal and spicy on the tongue...
Финиш 88 ...but then give way to a deeply satisfying chocolate-and-coffee-laced finale with hints of heathery HP smoke.

It exceeded my expectations. A great sherry profile, which looks a little old school. The influence of European oak is clearly noticeable. A great bottling that breaks out of the mostly interchangeable modern sherry profile of many current whiskys.

Нос 88 Cherries, berries, plums, raisins, sweet citrus, dry soil, light smoke, some honey, fudge, treacle, light chocolate and leathery notes. Also mild baking spices, mainly sweeter ones like ginger, cinnamon and a hint of brown sugar, but whiffs of clove and pimenta as well.
Вкус 87 Starts very sweet with dark cherries, blackberries, figs, plums and raisin. A little more spicy than the nose with black pepper and drying notes of clove, also cocoa powder, mild honied liquorice and leather. The development is more dry with some bitter notes of woodsap and charcoal coming to the front.
Финиш 85 Quite long: basically dry and astringent. Most sweetness is gone now except for a little honey. Then cocoa, ristretto, dry tobacco and dry leather. Black pepper, clove and an almost ashy charcoal note at the tail end.

I am impressed with the balance and integrity of the composition. No obsessive sherry motives, everything is very clearly woven into a single whole. The taste is holistic, but slightly rough and quite simple, although a few drops of water smooth out the corners. N: 21 T: 20 F: 20 B: 25

it was not too bad, but new seasoned sherry butts were too intensive and in a result 2/3 of a bottle was consumed for "boulevardier" twists ;)

A very drinkable, tasty malt that suits my taste quite well. The HP character is there, but pushed into the background by the barrels. For the €65 it costs, that's a really good result. I'll keep that in mind!
Нос 87 nice dark sherry aromas, grapes, chocolate, even some leather, a few herbs, smoke? minimal, the alcohol is minimally present,
Вкус 88 strong, now nice HP notes, herbs, smoke, more yellow fruity, charred orange, nice Haribo sweetness, red berries and ripe apricot, a little tangy, very tasty!
Финиш 87 medium length, further nice mix of primarily sweet orange fruits with a few berries, very delicate smoke and a few herbs

Interesting relatively young Highland Park (apparently). Comfortable 48% abv. The style of the distillery has been preserved. Perhaps a few more years in a barrel would improve the sample. 22/22/22/22

It's a nice Highland Park with a high quality nose and a developing palate.
Нос 89 Mild and aromatic sweet peat. Milk chocolate and honey, almost like Toblerone chocolate. Apple treacle and lacquered wood (your grandma's furniture). A quality nose!
Вкус 87 Full and generous. Behind the mild peat smoke, the honey and chocolate from the nose greets the palate. Various spices come to the front now: cloves, ginger and white pepper. After a while a suprising note of mineral water pops up.
Финиш 86 It's creamier now with the same spiceness. The Toblerone returns again, and the mineral water develops into a more maritme saltiness. Mild dry peat lingers.

In terms of aroma, it seems like an old-school sherry malt - clear sherry, but not overly so: great! Boy, the nosing alone is a lot of fun; but also give it enough time to develop. The taste is somehow completely different than expected, a few drops of water could make a difference - I'll have to test it... Quite dry at the back, so unfortunately it goes away a bit quickly. [91 - 87 = extremely tasty -> it's best if I get a second bottle]
Нос 91 Dark aromas, wild berries, pickled rum raisins, plums, dark cherries, dark sherry spices and spices (you could say sherry soup - meant in a positive way), all accompanied by the HP-typical orange. Heather, blossom honey, vanilla, caramel, toffee, nougat, brown sugar, marzipan, milk chocolate.
Вкус 87 dark fruits, very slight sweetness, peppery punch on the tongue (ugh, I didn't expect that based on the aroma); It quickly becomes quite dry, pulls everything out, dry tongue, seems somehow coated. Woody spice comes through, no longer as sweet as one would have expected from the aroma, but more dry sherry. 2ndSip: a little sweeter, the punch is back, but not as extreme anymore, it dries quickly again. Now also faster towards bitter notes and leather/tobacco moment.
Финиш 85 Dryness in the mouth, tongue coated with tannins, dark chocolate, bitter note of espresso powder. Licorice. Light smoke, something nutty is still in the background. Leather, tobacco.

It’s good and dangerously drinkable. It loses a point on the finish, which is a bit one-dimensional. But all in all a very enjoyable whisky.

Comparison of parcels 4 and 11… they are two of the reasons why we should still believe that amazing whiskies at decent prices still exist.. they are proof of what a quality distillate in an above average cask and with long enough maturation time can achieve.. parcels no 4 is darker, with more coffee and bitter chocolate, while parcel no 11 is fruitier and brighter, but still within the heavy sherry framework.. parcel 11 is also sweeter, with a slight petroleum twist in the finish.. parcel 4 has a somewhat more elegant nose, velvety and filled with exotic spices such as nutmeg and cloves and hints of decaying rose, but is less playful on the palate, while still retaining that petroleum finish which is top class! I can see why whiskynotes.be gave parcel 4 90 pts.. i would only go as far as 89.. and how parcel 11 would probably score around 87 pts.. but i find them really equally enjoyable and having an unique personality.. as a matter of fact i prefer batch 11, as it is friendlier and more fun, than the stern no 4, with its gravitas and gentleman-with-a-cigar-in-a-leather-chair attitude

Sniff: A very chocolatey and rich whisky, with lots of sweet dried fruits on the nose. There are plums and dates, some figs even. In the background the distillery shows a hint of itself with a note of heather. Notes of honey with a slightly bitter edge. Apricot stones, maybe. Sip: The palate packs a little bit more punch that you'd expect from a 48% whisky, but it is never harsh or too fiery. The heather is more pronounced than it was on the nose, as it the bitter note. Although, with notes of heather, that might not be overly surprising. Swallow: The finish veers back to the nose. There is some pink peppercorn heat that lingers with the bitterness from the palate but otherwise the dates make a reappearance. It's a rather long finish with dates and date stones, plums with their stones. That kind of stuff. A bit too much 'previous cask contents' to earn a higher rating, but a dangerously drinkable whisky.

Good for those who have such reserves. A very nice single malt. Take your time and enjoy.
Нос 88 Wonderfully complex nose with plums, currants, citrus notes, chocolate.
Вкус 87 Round, oily and balanced. Clear sherry notes without being overloaded. A lot of sweetness but also spice with dark chocolate. Excellent integrated alcohol.
Финиш 87 The sherry still lingers and then turns into spicy wood notes, walnut and chocolate.

The nose is very nice but hidden at first. Stewed fruits, leather, strawberry and plum preserves. In an empty glass, excellent and rich notes of dry sidal leather and thermowood. Taste dry sweetness of brown sugar, hot spices, already burnt strawberry jam. Finish with soft tannins, leather and baked wood. Excellent whisky where everything is smooth and nothing sticks out .... Definitely HP In general, it seems that the play is an 18 - 20 age whisky and not a 13 year release. Nose - 22,5 Taste - 21,5 Finish - 22 Balance - 22 Rating - 88 Second round of drinking .. General perception is simplified - little by little Nose - 22 Taste - 21 Finish - 22 Balance - 22 Rating - 87

Oh an Orkney distillery with peat is quite easy. Highland park is a verry nice distillery and they have some amazing bottlings, i dont like how they rase the prices its to much way to fast imho. My fav Highland park is 30yo but now its to exspensive fore me sadly enoth. Back to this hevily sherry dram, on the nose is remind me of an Old Pulteney i had a few years back

Вкус 85 Oh first impressjon its a disepoinment ???? Its thin where is the amazing oilyness (my gess its chill filterd) on the pallah on the arrival its like water a few seconds before some oilyness and peppery arrive and the bobfire peat.

We all know which Orkney distillery this comes from. It feels like it has a sharp viking edge. Also quite amplified despite the ABV. I tend to get along with more tidier drams, but this is still great with nice complexity.

Less fruity, more tart, spicy and sweet. I have never had such a pronounced tobacco note in any malt. Great substance, especially at the issue price.
Нос 90 Ingenious color, only the viscosity reveals the young age. Initially, I have a freshly opened packet of Van Nelle Halfzware Shag in my nose. Behind it maple syrup, roasted walnuts and slightly alcoholic piksen. Later leather and pickled plums.
Вкус 88 Nice oily start. Here, too, initially tart and spicy, then sweet. With water, the tobacco note comes out more strongly here as well. In addition, leather and oak spice are added. I can actually find relatively little fruit.
Финиш 88 Tobacco, light smoke, oak flavor. Brilliant!

An interesting, multifaceted malt, 48 alc is quite enough, only some acidity accompanies the malt in the taste and aftertaste.

Very bold and solid whisky with a long and stable finish. Contains rich notes of dried fruits, sweet black tea, flowers, chocolate and of course sherry vine with tiny hints of ash in taste.

Hints of vanilla pastry. Not as sticky sweet as I expected, there’s a nicely dry, rancio side as well. Leafy notes, old ropes, damp tobacco. A lovely profile. Mouth: the drier kind again. Old leather, dark chocolate, some beefy notes, five spice and liquorice. Plenty of umami elements, with black fruits and strawberry ganache playing the second violin. Spiced tea. Cinnamon powder. Some herbal drops. Not much peat. Finish: long, earthy and chocolatey, with herbs. Great stuff, rather old-school, probably characterised by European oak. It may have been stellar at cask strength, but it’s balanced and drinkable as it is. Warmly recommended, don’t hesitate if you find a bottle.

A batch of three ex-sherry butts from a "secret" distillery in the Orkney Islands was used to make this single malt, distilled in 2007 and aged for over 13 years. This is an earthy and juicy whisky infused with smooth smoke and a hint of spice.

Nose: Sweet Maple Syrup plums, Dark chocolate, Berries a potpourri (Rote Grütze here in Germany) pipe tobacco , earthy/ laethery notes on, Muskat/Piment slight vanilla T/D: great texture. starts Sweet let's stick to maple syrup and plums :) heavy dark chocolate notes take over... wood berries more sour than expected.. Piment F: Oak/ heavy tannins, dark chocolate, and Piment maybe even pepper but it's mixed with the cacao (medium) Damn thats sweet and spicy...nice HP I agree that this would have been ridiculous good bottled at cask strength - but 40 % of us wouldn't have the chance to get hands on a bottle that way so fair deal and still a very good dram.

Bottles with a secretive reference to Orkney can only mean one thing, it is undisclosed Highland Park. Now, modern Highland Park hasn't yet clicked with me but there was a lot of hype surrounding this particular bottle. I'm down for another try, shall we say. It's almost smothered in sherry and is very similar to the undisclosed Macallan they've bottled in that same parcel (WBID:169405). Same type of sherry casks I reckon. There is a chalky, heathery note that I've found in the few HP's that I've tried and I must say that I like it here. Next to that there's subtle smoke, assorted chocolate, dark fruit, caramel popcorn and some vanilla. On the palate, it shows more of the Highland Park DNA. Sherry is less dominant, more chalk/minerality and a slight tingle of black pepper. Finish is medium long and smokier than the rest of the experience. Interesting. Interesting Highland Park, where I still wouldn't count them to my favourites. Better than average, for sure.

Нос 87 Dried fruit, ripe dark cherries, plums but also waxed oak. Decent sherry influence with also a somewhat salty character.
Вкус 88 Creamy with a sweet sherry character. Slightly tingling on the tongue. Also cherries and dried fruit with a nice spicy background.
Финиш 87 Aromas remain nicely present in the aftertaste. The finish is also nice in length. All in all a beautiful glass!

My first ever Highland Park and straight away from an independent bottler! The color is amazingly dark and rich, it feels like liquid syrup:) I've been enjoying this bottle very much since the beginning and have about 30% left after 2 months since I opened it:)) I will definitely explore both the Highland Park and Elixir Distillers more after this experience!

Вкус 90 Feels warm, amazing explosion of flavors, sweet dark fruit (figs, plums), marzipan, oak tannins, slightly peppery, tobacco smoke, leather notes, get drier over time, wonderful!
Финиш 88 Medium/long, fairly dry, dark chocolate, dark fruit, oak wood, white pepper notes

Beautiful mahogany color, soft nose, sweet licorice, rusty nails, orange, some cloves, after eight chocolates, honey and all that under a thin layer of dust. Thin mouthfeel, cedar wood, salty licorice, hint of anise, slightly bitter touch of cocoa and walnuts, meaty. Aftertaste is medium long, spicy, some nutmeg and wood.

Нос 86 Very heavy, sweet nose. Hardly any alcohol. The whole thing is somehow almost in the direction of port wine. Somewhat musty, dull barrel swings and now there is clearly menthol that cools the nose and something alcoholic stinging. When you are through there you will be rewarded with fresh red fruits. Strawberries, black currants, blackberries and some unripe green fruits are also included. I like it very much, if not great.
