It's a very straight and clean Ardbeg - big peat, big lemon - this is it!

Quick hit review. Online tasting 01/2025. Superlatives have become a second nature to Ardbeg, so Supernova fits the bill. On the nose... what is this? Mossy, vegetal and honeyed, there is very little peatiness. Rock candy, plums and mineral notes appear. Not what I expected, but let's not jump to conclusions. After the first sip, the beast awakens. Briny peat smoke, vanilla and ginger develop before grassy, resinous and mildly bitter flavors take hold. Sweet licorice, lime juice and pineapple round off the prolonged and ashy finish. Elemental, raw and potent, this dram puts a smile on my face. RATING: 4.0/5.0 stars ≙ 88 pts → FIRST-CLASS

With Water Nose has much less peat evident with water, the palate is very creamy and the peat is mixed in with more white fruit. Finish is not even medium but its pleasantly warming. I actually think this is ok even for Ardbeg, its like a more muscular and refined 10 year,

Sweet coastal peat, citrus, not as extreme as one could think, quite enjoyable on a one off basis

Great interplay of nose and palate, plus a nice long finish - just awesome.

Its predecessor was the one that really got me into whisky, and also this one is still superb.

This is a very clean and expressive Ardbeg, but for the price / performance ratio Uigeadail is still my favorite!

Peat, brine, olives, salted lemon juice, we are indeed back on track. The grape element – in this case [oloroso?] sherry – is an integrated compliment to the base spirit and its underlying character. Following suit, this is a little farmy, yeasty, and decidedly barley-faithful, I’ll also offer runner beans and just a hint of Space Station? T: Bruichladdich Local Barley meets ex-Ardbeg casks, this one certainly seems [sherry] cask-sweetened, but bound up with more complexity than, say, the contemporary [2024] Ten. Then there’s the calculated snap of sour citrus into bitter peat, iodine, and ash that makes it ‘just so’ with a very decent travel. F: Peat and ash [all types], Ardbeg’s bitter salty dry-citrus thread is all here, almost too clean to pick up on the coastal elements. A great performance. C: Do you remember the Supernova headline? ‘The first whisky to travel to space, with a portion of its production sent to the International Space Station in 2011 to study the effects of zero-gravity on flavour’.
