This is not an ordinary Talisker, lacquers were also prunes, soaked in water, and flax seeds and butter ... does not look like 10, 18, 57 of the last two editions of the 2000s, but very tasty and heartfelt! [September, 2013] I had this dram during a Charlie Smith tasting at Bonn. In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 90. I took no detailed notes.
https://whiskylovingpianist.wordpress.com/2026/01/26/darrenmas-2025-part-2-2/ C: It’s been years since I saw T25 in the wild, and boy, is this a [subjective hit-the-spot] comfort dram [with no wacky theatricals], yet confirmation of how spectacularly Talisker, like Caol Ila, ages when allowed [to sit]. My daily dram [when I win the lottery I don’t play].
The nose is awesome, in the mouth it subsides a bit for me, but still a great whisky

Wonderful malt, power, all that Talisker has to offer is there, which is something to spend the whole evening with.
Well-balanced fruity Talisker with smoky cookie dough notes. The nose and finish are rather maritime and ashy but the palate isn’t, which makes it more quaffable for me.
One of those wonderful 25mm Taliskers of yesteryear. Very complex and maritime with a slight phenolic touch. Beautiful flavors and perfectly balanced between a lot of power but also a great flattering mouthfeel.

Thyme honey, pineapple jelly, prosciutto, sauna planks, pine resin, freshly lit wood fire. Extremely versatile nose, after a while it changes to freshly sawn tropical wood and liquorice juice. Very complex and yet absolutely harmonious. |

Perfect harmony of fruitiness and pepper smoke, it doesn't get any better than that, the alcohol content is just right and Talisker shines through. What an experience! Like a whole day at the seaside. And the smoke is unbelievably subtle, the angularity is perfectly balanced. |

More elegant, wiser in age and simply tastier than modern Talisker. I certainly haven't found this level of complexity in newer bottlings from the Skye distillery. |

Long, peppery, lemony and fruity finish. Slightly oily and milky. |
Purchased 1oz sample. As always, these cask strength 25yo's from what seems like ages ago are always excellent. Oily, peaty, full of dried herbs, tree bark, leather, old machines, and citric fruits like grapefruits and lime. While excellent, I think I've had better 25yo's from this distillery from Isle of Skye. Absolutely gorgeous island! As an aside, I tried this side-by-side with the Talisker 20yo 58.8%, which is noticeably better. It's a bit unfair, since that 20yo is one of the best ones as far as Talisker is concerned.
The nose is great and whets the appetite for more. The fine-hued wood flavors and the peppery spiciness, however, miss the fruitiness of the nose. An interesting blindsample which is almost a bit too sharp in the taste and finish. Still a great whisky, I like it very much!

Nose: Dry, dusty, but malty too. Roundness comes later. Nose less waves, more linear than its predecessors. Palate: Salt, pepper, boum and bam; it goes back to spicy power. Finale: By cons here it crushes quickly, the flavors come down, wisdom is in order. Recreation is over. Verdict: Rather sawtooth, with a final set back. But it's still playful and entertaining. 90/100 . (Note made in the context of a face to face of all Talisker 25y in barrel.)

Comment: In hindsight, I almost have to be annoyed that I have shared several of these bottles in recent years. They are almost too good for that. If you then consider that bottles like these now cost 400 euros and more, you would wish to have a few more in the collection. The 25 Talisker from today are unfortunately no longer comparable with these old bottlings. Even the "new" 30 Taliskers all fade against these old bottlings in real cask strength. With this drop in the glass, I like to remember my visit to the Isle of Skye and the Talisker distillery. Anyone who is there should definitely make a detour to the distillery. All in all, the 25er Talisker 2008 is a wonderful whisky that demands a lot from the nose and palate, but also gives a lot. An incredibly complex appearance that does justice to both the sweetness, the fruitiness, the smoke and the much-said chili paste. It is a pity that this quality no longer exists today. It's a shame that prices are exploding so much that you won't be able to treat yourself to something like that anymore. If you have the opportunity, you should definitely try such a drop. I have a strong 93 points today. Slainte!
A beautiful, maritime malt. The smoke is present all the time without being obtrusive. Has a complex nose and is amazingly tame on the palate despite the high percentage. I like it well, but I would have liked a little more fruitiness.

a continuous whisky from the nose to the finish which is nice and pleasant to drink Taliska notes are abundant but in slightly different clothes mmh, I like them indeed
Smoky and fruity aroma, pear, apple, nutmeg, cloves, lemon peel and heather honey. Fruity, peaty and sweet taste, pepper, ginger, lime, malt and vanilla. Long, tary, fruity and malty end.
Tasted with 2009 and 2005 releases. All in all, this one is more refined than the 2008 and better balanced for me. Nice whisky.

25yo Talisker - 2004 vs. 2006 vs. 2008. 2004: Fresh, fruity, minty, clear, cold and wild - tundra, spray, star fruit, bergamot. With water, then first a torrent of bitumen, heavy smoke remains but the fruits come back. 2006: Narrower than the other two, less fruit, less freshness, less sherry, instead oatmeal, warm smoke, spray, ... Worthy talisker in the middle of the three. Never ending finish. 2008: Warmer, salty, more sherry, warmer, creaky smoke. More salty tang, is dangerously close to the 15yo special release. Its fresher side comes out later, less directly than the 2004 one. Current Tali 10: The other day he still had the DNA, but in this context young pear in particular jumps into the nose, in terms of taste then OK
Talisker 25 yo (54.2%, OB, Refill casks, 9,708 bottles, 2008) A pretty large batch this year. Colour: pale gold. Nose: the difference with the oldies is very obvious, and not only because of the higher proof. It’s much more ‘coastal’, with much more notes of iodine, sea air, oysters, kelp… As for the fruity side, we left the oranges for more lemons and green apples. Also highly unusual notes of green olives that we never got in any Talisker as far as we can remember. The peat is less ‘ashy and sooty’, and probably grassier and more organic. With water (at roughly 43% to make it more comparable with the oldies): it got even straighter, on a pure mix of seawater and lemon juice. Make that a plate of oysters. Mouth (neat): again, what’s striking is that there’s much more lemon and even lime in this ‘new’ one. Very citric and then certainly peatier than the oldies. Also very peppery, but it’s different pepper when compared with the exceptional 1952. Sharper and also more mineral. With water: it does not get any rounder but, interestingly, closer to the oldies, with these heavy notes of shoe polish that we found in the 1953. Also notes of fresh almonds and always a lot of lemon. Finish: long, heavily ‘coastal’ now, with the ‘lemony peat’ striking at the end. Faint tannins (grape skin). Comments: these recent 20 or 25yo Taliskers are all very good and except for wood type variations (there has been some sherry versions), they are all very consistent. What’s more, even if the 1952 is really out of this world, they are in the same league as the oldies and should benefit from a little bottle aging. Only one concern, though: will the corks keep as well as good twist caps (or better yet, tin/spring caps) do? SGP:457 - 91 points. Whiskyfun.com
Newspaper, weak pepper pasta, more closed fruit flavor, smoky plums in the entrance, ignited wood, slightly gentler flavor expression, black pepper waxy finish

It took a long time for the malt to develop its full power. You should take a lot of time. Requires full attention.

BLIND TASTING Tip: a fine whisky, did not have the urge to give him water, because so very complex - Bowmore - 50 to 54 percent - 20 to 25 years - refill Sherry cask
Not the best 25-year-old Talisker, but one who brings the qualities of long-term storage to light and leaves a harmonious overall picture behind.
Wow, doesn't compare to the current 25-pack at 46%. I need a bottle.

a more acetic nose this time with notes of solvent and glue. The mouth is shorter, a bit bitter. The attack is frank and violent, and the finish just as brutal. The shape of this whisky is more picked up. I am less convinced with this one. (in comparison with previous batches)

A lot of strength. Which transformed with time into a flavor explosion. Talisker's typical salt kick and maritime herbs accompany a great creamy mouthfeel. You need a maximum of 5 ml to completely fill the mouth with aromas. Very concentrated malt. Take ur time ..

My first 'old' Talisker - I came to get used to it ... Blind tasting.
Blindverkostung Wundervoller Malt. Hammer!!
Delicious! Of the 25y my second favorite. This year was significantly more maritime in direct comparison and had more caramel than the 2004er and 2006er.
