After many disappointing Glenmorangies with fancy names, experimental cask finishes and no age statements I was happy to find this one very satisfying. "Extremely Rare" is an exageration, it's an easy drinking basic sherry finish with a price tag not too inflated.

N: That ‘light’ presentation is the distillery profile as far as I’m concerned, almost fluffy (a la Balvenie double wood) especially in the 12yo, but with more elegance that comes with maturity at 18 years. Malty cereals, oranges and lemons (dry enough), a malty sour note. Really has all the major corners covered. T: Continues along similar lines. Reminiscent almost of those 1950's oily out-turns, but mainly suggestive. Really malty, quite sweet with a touch of sour and a little salty . F: ,… then a little pepper, really just a sprinkle with many vanilla waves and dry [vanillin] oak. Tasty casks. C: Yeah, good stuff, Glenmorangie really have consistency down. The strength is a real factor though, but golly this is good. Then again I've had cask strength versions of low powered core-range-malts that loose more than they gain from that extra abv boost. I see this is the third time I’ve scored the 18yo the same mark - there’s me showing some consistency too, who’d have thought? Scores a B
Nose:- Perfumed olorosso sherry and pickled young mango, boiled mixed spices and peppery pungent, nose heating and bold. Palate:- Creamy pear and peach syrup, mature sherry flavours whirl around ripe plum, vanilla and clove. Elegant and full of authority. Double cask at its best. Finish:- Long and chewy. Sweet dates and intense. Warming. Clear cut and forward character, easy to understand. — at The Whisky Bar, Kuala Lumpur.

Very tasty, definitely not a sherry bomb, the Oloroso has problems on all levels with the ex-bourbon influence to create some space, but if he can do that, then it is a good addition. Otherwise, I really like the basic tangerine tone.

So this is either a case of batch variation or of some serious oxidization. I've had this one before and remember it as much "darker" and more Oloroso-influenced. The sample I'm working with here is considerably brighter, fruitier, and lighter. Still very solid, though, and the only core-range Glenmo I'd consider buying again. UPDATE: Having recently opened a bottle of my own, my suspicion is confirmed: the sample I had was a bit weak (perhaps from the dregs of a bottle, who knows). This is much better - darker, stronger, more to the point - and I'm raising my overall score from 84 to 87.

Grassy, floral, fruity. Pineapple, peaches and hay. Marzipan, white chocolate, vanilla. Seems younger than 18 initially. But wait: after some time, the wood begins to make its presence felt on the nose as well. Really hits its stride once it has wet the gullet. After the first sips, a herbal / spicy component kicks in that is highly reminiscent of some good-quality European-oak ex-sherry casks. |

Ah, here's where the age comes through. Immediate oak presence with creamy tannins and a good body for the strength. Plenty of Oloroso / umami flavors. Some dark chocolate as well. Sweet, spicy and luscious, with enough substance to serve as an after-dinner dram. The Glenmo fruits are present, but they're counterbalanced by a nicely measured wood influence. There may indeed be some (small measure of) European oak in here. Good-quality casks, in any case. |

Medium length, with a nice, slow fade, mainly on fruit and pepper. Seems more like 46 than 43 percent, which doesn't happen to often. Very lively, almost fizzy, with the acidity, spice and tart oak playing off each other. The sweetness recedes quite a bit at this point. Nothing crazy special, just very pleasant. |

Nice dram. Sweet, coconut, oak, vanilla on the nose. Discreetly peppery in the mouth, but the sweet oak remains present. Unfortunately, the finish is rather shorter but nice and aromatic with woody notes. The age shows, everything is nevertheless very pleasing. Good standard.
Dangerously tasty and well-balanced single malt with a great nose. The nutty-spicy notes in combination with the honey sweetness in the taste are very pleasing and interesting. Overall, a beautiful malt, which may still be minimal less dry / dry finish. Recommended.

Nose: great aroma with many fruits, lemon and juice orange are prominent, some mango and other exotic are also present, brown sugar and a pinch of vanilla, light and flowery with a breath of old wood. Very round and pleasing, which in this case is nothing bad. Taste: softer onset but always "sparkling" is. Lots of citrus, orange peel and honey sweetness, dried apricots and a hint of ecotic fruit and spices, the finish shows next to some Nimm2 fruitiness and sweetness especially the oak. Since the 18 years Fassreifung are properly present. Great taste and nice wood on the finish, but seems a bit too styled. I'm surprised - I think it's really alright even if it was obviously created as a pleasing malt for the masses.

"Producer`s Tasting Notes Aroma: The cornucopia of an autumn harvest festival table describes the overflowing abundance of arresting aromas that tantalise at the first nose of Glenmorangie 18 Years Old. The rich, resinous quality of nuts cascades into a crisp toffee sweetness of crème brulée, merging with caressingly smooth, creamy vanilla. Hints of vibrant oranges & lemons are found. Crunchy textured walnuts follow, oozing into golden honeycomb that trickles over sun-ripened sticky dates. Then sparkling floral tones emerge, taking the edge off any cloying sweetness, with the green, almost herbal bouquet of geranium, tempered with musky jasmine and the bright, sharp clarity of narcissus. With water, 18 Years Old reveals a rich oaken, balsamic character that yields to soft vanilla. At this moment, the signature Glenmorangie fruity complex reveals itself in golden apricots and dates mingled with hazelnuts. Taste: Glenmorangie 18 Years Old slips like silk over the tongue with a full, rounded flavour, starting with grapefruit & orange. The palate is then entranced with an accord of melting honey, creamy malt and aromatic florals that segue into the warm, syrupy nuttiness of hazelnuts and walnuts from the Oloroso sherry casks in which the whisky is matured. Savour the rich, sticky date and fig flavours as they are heightened by the unexpected caress of woodsmoke. Finish: Lingering and enticing with the subtle sweetness of dried fruit and the nutty dryness of sherry." TWE

After the Glenmorangie 18 with me now for a long time, yes I admit it, a little disdained and dusty standing around in the corner, but now has settled in the leftovers something like old botttle flavor. The nose is now clearer, nuttier and more complex compared to previous years. The cereal notes are dominant, but are accompanied by quite pleasant dried fruits and floral scent. In the mouth, however, quickly dominates the boring oak dryness, which is why I'm not warm with this whisky and unfortunately will not. Here I lack fruit, spice and complexity. The finish is short and dry. Ordinary standard paint.

The aroma is quite expansive, but carries a slightly undeniable alcohol note. It's a blend of corn, popcorn, banana, cream, and small amounts of dried lime, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, and a trace of dried chili. The 18 year old from Glenmorangie is very easy to drink and pleases as a beautiful mature malt that can be a nice companion on a summer day / evening. The sweet-fruity base with this nice cake association is appealing. He can't deny his kinship with the 10y. He doesn't have to either. You can clearly see his longer ripening time. Three tastings. I write: 1. Looking forward to it. Sweet, full, warm, dry - starts well - but with a bitter aftertaste, with bitter orange peel. Disappointing. 2. Refined stuff, this. The fragrance is not that remarkable. The taste is nice, with orange peel, the taste of the last time I taste less dominant. I find it disappointing again. Nothing wrong with it. 3. The smell is nothing short of good; apple, pipe tobacco, freshly cut grass, ricola candies. In the first nip there is a very nice little bitter, pepper and wood; some vanilla, away quickly. Butter soft, warm, melon, honey. Definitely better than the previous times, the eternal mystery - is it that I lie comfortably in the warm autumn sun or is the whisky just better than I reviewed last time? And that this time it is the first whisky in my glass? I love it, summery, afternoon whisky, very suitable for the circumstances. Well.
This is a very well balanced, smooth whisky. But I feel that it has more to offer than what it does. The aftertaste is lovely, the best part of it for me. Really nice, but I feel it could be better.
At first it is round, fruity and sweet on the nose with apple / pear, caramel and honey. The aroma is reminiscent of apple pie, and behind it the typical bourbon "glue note". With a longer time in the glass, the vanilla strengthens and displaces the apple. From time to time orange / tangerine shimmer through. Little complexity for 18 years. Wonderfully soft and (light) fruity in the mouth with hints of citrus and a little honey in the background, but still too simple for its age. The strong but too short finish makes up for this and lets not only apples but also sherry-typical aromas of raisins and apricots shine through. Not a monster of complexity, but at least a slight increase, but unfortunately less sherry influence than the 12-year-old Lasanta Grade: 2+
I wasn’t a big fan of Glenmorangie before trying this 5cl sample from a friend’s bottle and I am still not after tasting it. Not a bad whisky but definitely not worth neither its price nor the hype of a 18 scottish malt.

A nice, drinkable whisky, but with a broad palate
Glenmorangie 18 YO Extremely Rare Category: Single Malt Manufacturer and bottler: Glenmorangie Distillery (LVMH) Region: Highlands Barrels: one part spirits 15 years ex-bourbon + 3 years Oloroso sherry, the rest all 18 years ex-bourbon Fortress: 43% Volume: 700 ml Bottling date: 02/13/2020 Filtration: yes Dye: present The nose is reminiscent of a "pumped", brighter aromatics of the "Morange" ten, combined with a small fraction of the features of Lasanta. Bourbon aging clearly prevails over sherry, the latter here acting as a kind of cut. The nose is characteristically Glenmorangie brightly perfumed, yet delicate and elegant, standing on the bright side of the aromatic spectrum. It also does not have any weighty or woody tones, indicating a long exposure, so blindly, purely on the nose, I would hardly give it more than 15 years. So, here, vanilla and almonds, typical of the distillery profile, Seville oranges, marmalade, also a little light flower honey, shortbread with melted butter or confectionery cream, sea buckthorn, applesauce, a fraction of again light dried fruits (raisins , dried apricots, figs) and cinnamon. Taste. A rich sweet and sour ensemble of citrus fruits, honey, yellow apples, dried fruits, marmalade, caramel and malty baker's shades is combined with an unobtrusive but active bitterness from vanilla, cinnamon, almonds, ginger and oak. Here, the endurance is already well felt. The taste is rich and bright, juicy, but maybe not as dense and oily as we would like. Aftertaste. Medium duration. Oak-pepper bitterness, vanilla, custard, raisins. Summary. This whisky is designed to please the majority. Bright, elegant and tasty, well reflecting the producer's style. Well balanced for its stripped-down features. But, it does not have any interesting discoveries or amazing depth, which would make you buy it again without regrets at a regular price. If you catch a very good discount, then I recommend trying it, it is really very easy and pleasant to drink . Rating: 86 out of 100.

Quite bitey and aggresive for an18 year old, rather like the10 but with more oak and a dry finish. Not really entirely succesful since the freshness of the 10 is preferable to the lingering dryness of the 18. Oh well, you live and learn. Glenmorangie is best enjoyed young.
Glenmorangie 18-year-old is known for its smoothness, complexity, and rich flavors
It is revealed for a long time. It is difficult to separate one taste from another.
Very accessible whisky : good value for money and easily enjoyed by all drinkers. A solid present for sure. In my opinion, rather unexceptional whisky with classic bourbon matured tasting notes (floral, honey, vanilla...) with a slight pinch of sherry dried fruits.
The starting point of luxurious scotch

so.. it's nice. Nothing wrong with it. But it doesn't make me dance on the table either. It's sweet, icing sugar with some soft exotic (dried) fruits. Bit of orange, peach. Soft butterscotch. Soft spices, cinnamon/nutmag, soft oak. A hint of mint, ginger, floral. I do like the (soft) nuttiness it has. Inviting, polite but a bit boring.
