On the nose, it offers lovely fruit and spice aromas, but on the palate it's too bland for my taste. And the finish is short-lived. I imagine an alcohol content of over 50% might remedy this.

Significantly less fruity than on the nose, but with ginger, anise, and a touch of licorice, and freshly ground pepper. Passion fruit, guava, and banana emerge later, but less intensely than on the nose. White chocolate and gel-salted natural yogurt. |

Short finish. The fruit aromas fade quite quickly, black pepper, grated ginger and cloves linger a little longer, along with milk coffee. |
N- Complex, sour yoghurt and very puffy, thick and heavy. Mint chocolate coated with airy sea spray. Prickly spice and strong on nose. P- Clove and cola sweet, light bitter sweet herbs. Curry & Angelica Root When we think of Indian whisky, Amrut is surely top of mind, while Paul John often does not even come to mind. Justified or not? I already tried their Classic, Edited, Brilliance and Peated Select Cask. The only one I did not yet try is the Bold, but I am about to rectify that. Ha! This whisky even smells of India. Well, I mean incense, which I associate mostly with this country. Then I get some curry and angelica root! There comes the fruit, in the guise of dried apricots and baked apples, with a pinch of cinnamon on top. Finally some oranges, tobacco leaves and wet earth. Surprisingly complex and the best Paul John I have nosed so far. It is very creamy on the palate, very spice and sweet on leather, wood, mocha, Turkish Delight and a big dose of peat, baked apples and pears, a maritime touch, cedar wood… darn, this is very good and complexe and a pleasant surprise. A light bitterness as if from grapefruit and tea takes my taste buds hostage, while the spices simmer with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger in the lead. Full of flavor and intensly spicy with enough fruit to keep it nicely balanced. The finish is wonderfully long and smoky, sweet with a twist, while it leaves the mouth parched. Very pleasant surprise, good strength and good price – what’s not to like? Recommended.
Excellent! Maybe the oak was just a tad too active on the palate, but overall a nice range of flavours and a good balance. Recommended.

Another great Indian. Full of spices and fruit. I like the profile. The lack of smoke can also be daily form. He is definitely present, if not too strong. In sum, a nice spicy whisky, off the Scottish paths, without being worse, just different.
Tasted blind - it made it's mark and stood it's ground between a Clynelish 14 and a Kilchoman Machir Bay. Deserves to be on the list of Scotch lovers;-)

A stunning dram, by this combination of peat smoke and intense exotic fruit, very pleasant surprise even if the peat is well below what the nose could glimpse.

On the nose it's a nice, fruity, honey, yellow smoke with tropical overripe fruit. But the more I smell it, the more it's homemade. It's actually Indian Peated Gold CXXK. It's a little better in taste, but it lacks something complex. Overall it's a simple, non-conflicting, fruity, spicy drink. Will you pour it? I'll drink it! - 86b

not as good as the other batch i had (01-Spet 15), which had a full spectrum of sugars and richer metallic and mineral notes, this one feels more watered down and not as “bold” * for Batch 01-May 16
For the first sniff, I have homemade fruit brandy, fine medicinal smoke, overripe orange. The taste is earthy, fruity with notes of citrus peel, and mineral.

Very nice whisky, which I presumably would have put blind immediately to Scotland.
Bold honey, on slight peat smoked banana, with malty spicyness. Slight dry coffee and grassy notes. Tasty dram from India.
Paul John Bold (46%) (bottled March 2018). Consumed Feb 2019. Aroma - some banana split, slightly cheesey, cheese rind, also some old vanilla icecream. OK aroma I suppose. Closes up over time. Then gets more banana and toffee. Taste is smooth and easy up front - almost watery, then light esters show up, leading to building toffee and marzipan, white chocolate fudge, pleasing milky coffee vibe somewhere in there, subtle smoke, salty fudgey linger. There are definitely several stages to the flavour development here. Ends up a solid enough whisky but there are better options at the price. (3.35/80)

I can't comment on this, but it's probably not my cup of tea. I'd love to drink it for free, but I won't pay for it!!!
The underlying spirit of this whisky is certainly well made. The people working on this whisky are definitely putting the time and effort into building the its reputation.
As a fan of the smoky whiskys, I can only recommend this one. At a price of less than 40 euros, you can get a pleasant but nevertheless strongly smoky and spicy whisky that could well compete with whiskys in the higher price segment. Nice complex and also balanced for the price.

aroma: delicate, herbal, saltiness, citrus, brandy taste: harsh, iodine, earthy, herbal, a little BBQ at the end A rougher, rougher whisky that kicks in and then fades away
Had a dram of this one with friends when we had a whisky night. Some one brought this bottle, not bad but would not buy a bottle of it.

Very hazel-nutty and chocolaty on the nose, reminiscent of Nutella or Hanuta. In addition, smoky (warm smoke, association with bacon) and sweet. Subtle associations of mint and tea. Edit 2 years later: today it looks more like a Ledaig: sauerkraut, liquid manure, fermented grass, yellow kiwi. The finish overlays the fruit with spice, ash and oak and again associations of tea. Very tasty and I would blindly sign it for 12 years Length: 6/10 Grade: 2+
