Классический бурбон при 50% — ваниль, дуб, корица, лакрица и заметная ржаная пряность с лёгкой горчинкой. Опытные ценят необычную травяную сложность и питкость; вердикт стабильно положительный, разброс невелик.

В аромате прямой бурбонный профиль: ваниль, мёд, дуб и сладкая карамель с ирисом, поверх — пряный слой из корицы, гвоздики, мускатного ореха и перца, сосновая смола, анис и лёгкая клейкая нота. Опытные отмечают необычные акценты — сандал, абрикос, мирабель, ментоловую свежесть и травяные леденцы. Во вкусе маслянистая ваниль и сладкая кукуруза сталкиваются с сухой пряной атакой: корица, лакрица, перец, мускат, свежая мятная прохлада и лёгкая кислотность. Повышенная крепость даёт приятное согревающее жжение, при этом напиток остаётся питким и не приторным. Послевкусие от короткого до средне-长ого — ваниль и дуб, лакрица, каролина, порой цепкая вяжущая сухость с мятой. Оценки согласованы плотно (в основном 80–87), яркие расхождения редки. Опытные ревьюеры ставят выше и подробно хвалят необычное взаимодействие аромата и вкуса, травяную сложность и длинное послевкусие (вплоть до 90). Критика идёт в основном от менее опытных и от тех, кто не любит бурбон: смущают навязчивая травянистость, анисово-лакричный тон, клейкое обволакивание рта и лёгкая незрелая кислинка; отсюда самые низкие оценки (73–78) с упреком в нехватке «изюминки» и завышенной цене при простоватости профиля. Общий вердикт — добротный, старомодный бурбон с хорошим соотношением цены и качества.

A straight bourbon with an impressive 50% vol. is not off the shelf. An extraordinary dram with a high recognition value in red copper awaits in the glass.
Нос 86 The nose is initially rather reserved, with gentle notes of sandalwood, apricots and mirabelle plums. A little honey and vanilla as well as spices are noticeable, but everything is very gentle. Inevitably, a cooked compote with vanilla and cinnamon comes to mind.
Вкус 87 On the palate, first of all, oily vanilla and fruit flavors, then a clear sharpness with cooling mint and white pepper. A fresh acidity can also be felt, almost like a Sauvignon Blanc. Herbal notes, oregano, thyme and plum marzipan come through quite strongly. There is a lot to discover.
Финиш 85 In the finish, rather short to medium-long, there is still fruity sweetness on the palate, which then gradually turns into an astringent dryness with a lot of fresh mint and finally leaves fruit and heather honey.

Another bourbon sample from the specialist. He claims this is a good one, so good he is sad to see the bottle gone. Still he had the heart to spare a sample :-) Let's see if we agree.
Нос 87 At 50% the nose is surprisingly mellow. Clearly a bourbon, vanilla, sweet but not overly loaded. Then it gets a little unusual. Ricola herb drops. And, I know it sounds strange: pool side, or sun tan lotion and a slight menthol note that I for some reason associate with pool water. Drizzle on a pinch of cinnamon.
Вкус 90 Ah, very unusual, in a good way. Arrives with a little dryness, and a nice spicy punch. I actually get quite a bit of cinnamon, with the dryness it's like a small spoonful. Pepper, nutmeg, licorice.
Финиш 94 The licorice survives into the finish, and it gets really sticky. Lasts for ages.

A bourbon that is very different. Great interaction between nose and palate. After the nose one expects a completely different taste. The finish is not just a pappige sweetness back, but a round thing of vanilla and oak. Very nice.
Нос 84 Strong herbal note. Spicy: cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, pepper. Oak, a little vanilla.
Вкус 85 The start is expected strong and delivers a potpourri of caramel candy, toffee, malt and vanilla. Distant swing the spices from the nose, but are not nearly as strong as when Verriechen. Pleasantly sweet, not sticky.
Финиш 85 In the medium-long finish, vanilla and oak are dominant. Some pepper slides after, but only for a moment, then he is gone again.

I'm not really a bourbon fan. Here I had a sample as a free supplement with an order. I understand the decent rating of whiskey, if you like bourbon. Unfortunately, he drops off a bit for me.
Нос 82 one smells directly, that this is a bourbon, sweet, vanilla, over it a slight adhesive note, but not disturbing, floral, herbs, almost like sauna infusion, some pepper

I was struggling to pick a bourbon I've never tried and I found this at the back of the shelf. It's a decent price and a great bourbon if you are a bourbon drinker. Sad to see it go.
Нос 89 Lots of Oak and vanilla which is always a good start. Banana, blood orange, cinnamon but not too much as it's a spoiler for me. Peach and sarsaparilla. A good bourbon nose is as good as anything and this is one of them. With a few drops of water it softens it, makes it more light and floral.
Вкус 90 At 50% alc vol this is quite palatable and I have drank nearly all of it straight. The Oak and vanilla transfer nicely. Just a little dry delivery and it fits nicely with the liquorice notes. Again the cinnamon is there and like the nose it is just enough. There is a burn when you take a drink but it is a really nice burn, probably one of the best things about it, it really wraps itself around those taste buds and doesn't let go. With water it takes away the burn and makes it quite normal which is a bad thing for me.
Финиш 89 The finish is long and really satisfying, like Fellini's 8 1/2 . It starts off strong with the Oak and vanilla and that's the way it finishes. With water it is more medium and fruity.

A very enjoyable bourbon "lacking" of bitterness. Hope to see this version again in a few years. Concerning price/performance ratio: 9/10

I think this is a good example of an old-fashioned bourbon. I presume that, because I never really had old bourbons, but it just has most of the features you would expect from a bourbon. It might be slightly overpriced, compared to others with a similar profile.
Нос 84 The first impression is that of a typical bourbon with spicy caramel, wood spices, lovely pine resin, and winter spices including aniseed and pepper. A good balance with a clear spicy side. I also get burned caramel, liquorice, and a hint of blackberries after giving some time to ope. Maybe slightly simple.
Вкус 84 The spices rule the palate. Aniseed, liquorice, and it becomes more balance between the sweet and spicy counterweights. Not too much wood on the palate, which is good, and sweet corn and pepper.
Финиш 83 A rather short aftertaste with caramel, cinnamon, pine trees and black berries.

1776 Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 50% alc. original bottling Region: USA Note: At 38%, relatively high rye content. Nose: Strong but quite flattering. With a lot of vanilla and honey, some toffee and cream caramel. Behind it, spicy oak and pepper, a hint of paprika. In the background I smell a very distant note of cloves. Overall, a clear sweet note, which lays very gently to the other flavors. Palate: Sweet and very spicy. With breakfast cereals, maple syrup and marshmallows (vanilla flavor). The cloves come to the fore, next to a hint of pepper. Finish: Medium to long, again very round and slightly spicy. Conclusion: Increased drinking strength, round aromas with a slight tendency to spice (by the rye). I really like it a lot. 85/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 40 €) I thank the importer for the sample! Better than a discount bourbon. Interesting combination of spice and sweetness. For my taste it's missing that certain something and I don't like the anise/licorice taste.
